Finding the Leptonic WWWW Decay Mode of a Heavy Higgs Boson

We reanalyze the extraction of the heavy Higgs boson signal HW+Wˉν,νˉH\rightarrow W^+W^-\rightarrow \bar\ell\nu,\ell\bar\nu (=e or μ)(\ell=e\hbox{ or }\mu) from the Standard Model background at hadron supercolliders, taking into account revised estimates of the top quark background. With new acceptance criteria the detection of the signal remains viable. Requiring a forward jet-tag, a central jet-veto, and a large relative transverse momentum of the two charged leptons yields S/B>6S/\sqrt B>6 for one year of running at the SSC or LHC.Comment: LaTex(Revtex), 9 pages, 6 figures (available upon request), MAD/PH/75

H-->WW as the discovery mode for a light Higgs boson

    Get PDF
The production cross section for a m_H=115 GeV, SM Higgs boson in weak boson fusion at the LHC is sizable. However, the branching fraction for H-->WW is expected to be relatively small. The signal, with its two forward jets, is sufficiently different from the main backgrounds that a signal to background ratio of better than 1:1 can nevertheless be obtained, with large enough rate to allow for a 5 sigma signal with 35 fb^{-1} of data. The H-->WW signal in weak boson fusion may thus prove to be the discovery mode for the Higgs boson at the LHC.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, uses revte

    Sparticle Production in Electron-Photon Collisions

    Get PDF
We explore the potential of electron-photon colliders to measure fundamental supersymmetry parameters via the processes eγe~χ~0e\gamma \to \tilde e \tilde\chi^0 (selectron-neutralino) and eγν~χ~e\gamma\to \tilde\nu \tilde\chi^- (sneutrino-chargino). Given the χ~0\tilde\chi^0 and χ~\tilde\chi^- masses from e+ee^+e^- and hadron collider studies, cross section ratios σ(γ)/σ(γ+)\sigma(\gamma_-)/\sigma(\gamma_+) for opposite photon helicities determine the ν~L\tilde\nu_L, e~L\tilde e_L and e~R\tilde e_R masses, independent of the sparticle branching fractions. The difference mν~L2me~L2m_{\tilde\nu_L}^2-m_{\tilde e_L}^2 measures MW2cos2βM_W^2\cos2\beta in a model-independent way. The e~L\tilde e_L and e~R\tilde e_R masses test the universality of soft supersymmetry breaking scalar masses. The cross section normalizations provide information about the gaugino mixing parameters.Comment: add refs; add \tightenline

Measuring CP Violating Phases at a Future Linear Collider

    Get PDF
At a future Linear Collider one will be able to determine the masses of charginos and neutralinos and their pair production cross sections to high accuracies. We show how systematically including the cross sections into the analysis improves the measurement of the underlying mass parameters, including potential CP violating phases. In addition, we investigate how experimental errors will affect the determination of these parameters. We present a first estimate on the lower limit of observable small phases and on the accuracy in determining large phases.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, RevTeX3.1, Version to be published in Physics Letters B, physics setup improved, figures added, conclusions unchange

Additional Records of Acanthocephalan Parasites from Arkansas Fishes, with New Records from Missouri Fishes

    Get PDF
Over the last decade, our research consortium has provided information on acanthocephalan parasites of Arkansas vertebrates, including records from some of the state’s fishes. Here, we continue to provide data on new geographic and new host records of acanthocephalans from Arkansas fishes. In addition, for the first time, we report records of acanthocephalans for some Missouri fishes. We document 2 new state records as well as 10 new host records for some fish acanthocephalans

Searching for a heavy Higgs boson via the H --> l nu jj decay mode at the CERN LHC

The discovery of a heavy Higgs boson with mass up to m_H = 1 TeV at the CERN LHC is possible in the H--> W^+W^- --> l nu jj decay mode. The weak boson scattering signal and backgrounds from t\bar tjj and from W+jets production are analyzed with parton level Monte Carlo programs which are built on full tree level amplitudes for all subprocesses. The use of double jet tagging and the reconstruction of the W invariant mass reduce the combined backgrounds to the same level as the Higgs signal. A central mini-jet veto, which distinguishes the different gluon radiation patterns of the hard processes, further improves the signal to background ratio to about 2.5:1, with a signal cross section of 1 fb. The jet energy asymmetry of the W --> jj decay will give a clear signature of the longitudinal polarization of the W's in the final event sample.Comment: 23 pages (with 7 embedded figures), Revtex, uses epsf.sty. A Separate Higgs?

    Get PDF
We investigate the possibility of a multi-Higgs doublet model where the lightest neutral Higgs boson (h0h^0) decouples from the fermion sector. We are partially motivated by the four +γγ\ell^+\ell^-\gamma\gamma events with Mγγ60M_{\gamma\gamma}\simeq60\,GeV recently observed by the L3 collaboration, which could be a signal for Z(Z+)+(h0γγ)Z\to (Z^*\to \ell^+\ell^-)+(h^0\to \gamma\gamma). Collider signatures for the additional physical Higgs bosons present in such models are discussed.Comment: 8 pages (plus 2 figures, available by request), latex, ANL-HEP-PR-92-10
