Tissue engineering offers a solution to the shortage of materials for cartilage reconstruction surgery by providing various potential biomaterial scaffolds. Tissue engineering utilizes biological or synthetic biomaterials as a scaffold for the host cells to repopulate and regenerate the tissue. The natural biomaterials such collagen and chondroitin imitates native cartilage matrix composition. Genipin as one of natural crosslinkers was added to improve the matrix biomechanical properties. This study was done to investigate biocomposition of blended collagen type 1, collagen type 2, chondroitin sulphate (Col1-Col2-CS) and genipin for its cytotoxicity using human umbilical mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs), surface morphology, and biochemical composition. Genipin-crosslinked collagen-chondroitin biocomposite showed a homogeneous shape while uncrosslinked biocomposite had rough surface and fibrillar folds size. Spectroscopy demonstrated both biocomposites had similar peak resemble to no alternation of the biocomposition by crosslinking. Both types of biocomposites were biocompatible and had no toxic effects, as compared to the cell colony only (p value = 0.26). The conclusion are blended composite of collagen chondroitin crosslinked with genipin had generated a fine microstructure scaffold with smaller pore size, had similar biomolecular component spectrum absorption, and no exhibition of residual toxicity

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) awareness programme on the short-term and long-term improvement of knowledge and referral of patients with NPC by primary healthcare centres (PHCCs) staff in Indonesia. Design: The NPC awareness programme consisted of 12 symposia including a Train-The-Trainer component, containing lectures about early symptoms and risk factors of NPC, practical examination and the referral system for NPC suspects. Before and after training participants completed a questionnaire. The Indonesian Doctors Association accredited all activities. Participants: 1 representative general practitioner (GP) from each PHCC attended an NPC awareness symposium. On the basis of the Train-The-Trainer principle, GPs received training material and were obligated to train their colleagues in the PHCC. Results: 703 GPs attended the symposia and trained 1349 staff members: 314 other GPs, 685 nurses and 350 midwives. After the training, respondents’ average score regarding the knowledge of NPC symptoms increased from 47 points (of the 100) to 74 points (p<0.001); this increase was similar between symposium and Train-The-Trainer component (p=0.88). At 1½ years after the training, this knowledge remained significantly increased at 59 points (p<0.001). Conclusions: The initial results of this NPC awareness programme indicate that the programme effectively increases NPC knowledge in the short and long term and therefore should be continued. Effects of the improved knowledge on the stage at diagnoses of the patients with NPC will still need to be scrutinised. This awareness programme can serve as a blueprint for other cancer types in Indonesia and for other developing countries

Backgrounds: The preparation of final examination among nursing students for onesemester were not maximized. They tend to learn overnight and memorize thingsquickly in a short amount of time. A new strategy was done using posttest evaluationevery week for one semester. The aims of this study was to assess the impact of usingposttest evaluation on basic concept of psychiatric nursing. Methods: Focus groups were used as a research method and a form of interview usedin qualitative study. to explore the impact for nursing students using posttest evaluationin basic concept of psychiatric nursing. We divided four focus groups, consisting of 10participants. We interviewed nursing in the academic year 2016-17 who had learningevaluation in basic concept of psychiatric nursing. Results: The finding show that there are three themes due to impact of using posttestevaluation in basic concept of psychiatric nursing. The impact were helping nursingstudents in learning performance, self motivation and behavioral changes. Conclusions: Students learned the material over the semester as indicated by the overallhelp increase in student learning ability. Posttest has impact on learning performance, self motivation and behavioral changes. When used posttest strategy continually, couldimproved student learning. A quantitative studyusing quasi experimental method canbecarried out to identify the effect of using posttest evaluation on learning performance, self motivation and learning behavior

Domestic violence spans across cultures and many countries include Indonesia. In the women and childrenperspectives, it is taboo to report the domestic violence because it is a private matter, not for the publicdomain. Therefore domestic violence screening through the empowerment and mentoring of mental healthcadres is needed to raise awareness of domestic violence in rural community. The aim of this study is toexplore the influence of the empowerment and mentoring of mental health cadres on screening domesticviolence. A quasi experimental was conducted among mental health cadres. The total sampling derivedfrom six sub district of Kalegen village. Data were analyzed by using SPSS (version 19). A total sample of 22mental health cadres aged between 28 years to 49 years. There is a high significant screening capability inpretest-posttest after empowerment and mentoring of mental health cadres (p> .001). The empowermentand mentoring of mental health cadres on screening domestic violence could strengthen support and raisingdomestic violence awareness. This intervention should become a part of community health program incommunity. A longitudinal study can be carried out to prevent domestic violence

BACKGROUND:Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is endemic in Indonesia and 20% of the patients are diagnosed before the age of 31. This study evaluates presentation and treatment outcome of young patients in Jakarta, in a tertiary referral centre. METHODS:Forty-nine patients under the age of 31, diagnosed with NPC between July 2004 and January 2007, were evaluated. Baseline data included histological type, stage of disease and presenting symptoms. We intended to follow all patients after diagnosis to reveal treatment outcome and overall survival (OS). RESULTS:All but two patients had advanced stage disease (94%), 7 (14%) had distant metastasis. The median interval between start of complaints and diagnosis was 9 months. Forty-two patients were planned for curative intent treatment. Eleven patients (26%) never started treatment, 2 patients did not complete treatment and 3 patients did not return after finishing treatment. Four patients died before radiation could start. Three patients died within 4 months after treatment. Nine patients (21%) had a complete response. Due to the high number of patients who were lost to follow-up (LFU), OS was analyzed as follows: a best-case (patients censored at last contact) and a worst-case scenario (assuming that patients who did not finish treatment or had disease at last contact would have died). The 2-year OS for patients without distant metastases was 39-71%. CONCLUSION:Treatment outcome for young patients with NPC in this institute was poor. Improvement can be achieved when NPC is diagnosed at an earlier stage and when there is better treatment compliance
