    Photovoltaic power plants: a multicriteria approach to investment decisions and a case study in western Spain

    his paper proposes a compromise programming (CP) model to help investors decide whether to construct photovoltaic power plants with government financial support. For this purpose, we simulate an agreement between the government, who pursues political prices (guaranteed prices) as low as possible, and the project sponsor who wants returns (stochastic cash flows) as high as possible. The sponsor s decision depends on the positive or negative result of this simulation, the resulting simulated price being compared to the effective guaranteed price established by the country legislation for photovoltaic energy. To undertake the simulation, the CP model articulates variables such as ranges of guaranteed prices, tech- nical characteristics of the plant, expected energy to be generated over the investment life, investment cost, cash flow probabilities, and others. To determine the CP metric, risk aver- sion is assumed.     Diseño y gestión adaptativa de un programa de pagos por servicios ecosistémicos en Copán Ruinas, Honduras

    This article presents a case study of development of a Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) program related to drinking water in the city of Copán Ruinas, Honduras. The methodology used for the design and the implementation of this program is based on an integrated and adaptive management approach. It includes the following elements: general diagnostic, definition of objectives, analysis of enabling conditions, technical design, implementation and evaluation. This paper presents the empirical results of the application of this methodology and, in particular, highlights the application of a performance-based payment system to remunerate local peasants in accordance to their land use decisions.Este artículo presenta el desarrollo de una iniciativa de pagos por servicios ecosistémicos relacionados con la provisión de agua potable en la comunidad de Copán Ruinas, Honduras. La metodología para diseñar e implementar este programa se basa en un enfoque integral y de gestión adaptativa, compuesto por varios componentes: definición de objetivos y diagnóstico general, análisis de condiciones habilitadoras, diseño técnico del programa, implementación y evaluación. El artículo presenta la aplicación de este enfoque y los resultados obtenidos en términos del diseño e implementación inicial del programa de pagos. Un resultado particularmente interesante tiene que ver con la construcción de un sistema de pagos basados en desempeño en donde los finqueros reciben pagos diferenciados de acuerdo al tipo y cantidad de cambios que logran en los sistemas productivos. La idea es que los pagos envíen señales acerca de cuáles cambios y usos del suelo son más deseables en términos de mejoramiento de la calidad y disponibilidad de agua para consumo humano

    Theory for Cavity Cooling of Levitated Nanoparticles via Coherent Scattering: Master Equation Approach

    We develop a theory for cavity cooling of the center-of-mass motion of a levitated nanoparticle through coherent scattering into an optical cavity. We analytically determine the full coupled Hamiltonian for the nanoparticle, cavity, and free electromagnetic field. By tracing out the latter, we obtain a Master Equation for the cavity and the center of mass motion, where the decoherence rates ascribed to recoil heating, gas pressure, and trap displacement noise are calculated explicitly. Then, we benchmark our model by reproducing published experimental results for three-dimensional cooling. Finally, we use our model to demonstrate the possibility of ground-state cooling along each of the three motional axes. Our work illustrates the potential of cavity-assisted coherent scattering to reach the quantum regime of levitated nanomechanics.Comment: 27 pages (18 main text + 9 Appendices), 12 figures, 3 table

    Use of polyethyleneimine polymer in cell culture as attachment factor and lipofection enhancer

    BACKGROUND: Several cell lines and primary cultures benefit from the use of positively charged extracellular matrix proteins or polymers that enhance their ability to attach to culture plates. Polyethyleneimine is a positively charged polymer that has gained recent attention as a transfection reagent. A less known use of this cationic polymer as an attachment factor was explored with several cell lines. RESULTS: Polyethyleneimine compared favorably to traditional attachment factors such as collagen and polylysine. PC-12 and HEK-293 cells plated on dishes coated with polyethyleneimine showed a homogeneous distribution of cells in the plate, demonstrating strong cell adhesion that survived washing procedures. The polymer could also be used to enhance the adherence and allow axonal outgrowth from zebrafish retinal explants. The effects of this coating agent on the transfection of loosely attaching cell lines were studied. Pre-coating with polyethyleneimine had the effect of enhancing the transfection yield in procedures using lipofection reagents. CONCLUSION: Polyethyleneimine is an effective attachment factor for weakly anchoring cell lines and primary cells. Its use in lipofection protocols makes the procedures more reliable and increases the yield of expressed products with commonly used cell lines such as PC-12 and HEK-293 cells

    Coupling of individual quantum emitters to channel plasmons.

    Efficient light-matter interaction lies at the heart of many emerging technologies that seek on-chip integration of solid-state photonic systems. Plasmonic waveguides, which guide the radiation in the form of strongly confined surface plasmon-polariton modes, represent a promising solution to manipulate single photons in coplanar architectures with unprecedented small footprints. Here we demonstrate coupling of the emission from a single quantum emitter to the channel plasmon polaritons supported by a V-groove plasmonic waveguide. Extensive theoretical simulations enable us to determine the position and orientation of the quantum emitter for optimum coupling. Concomitantly with these predictions, we demonstrate experimentally that 42% of a single nitrogen-vacancy centre emission efficiently couples into the supported modes of the V-groove.     Decision-Making Ontology for Information System Engineering

    International audienceInformation Systems (IS) engineering (ISE) processes contain steps where decisions must be made. Moreover, the growing role of IS in organizations involves requirements for ISE such as quality, cost and time. Considering these aspects implies that the number of researches dealing with decision-making (DM) in ISE increasingly grows. As DM becomes widespread in the ISE field, it is necessary to build a representation, shared between researchers and practitioners, of DM concepts and their relations with DM problems in ISE. In this paper, we present a DM ontology which aims at formalizing DM knowledge. Its goal is to enhance DM and to support DM activities in ISE. This ontology is illustrated within the requirements engineering field

    INTRODUCCIÓN: Hay descritas barreras y facilitadores para implantar la AF. Algunos facilitadores podrían ser proporcionados desde los colegios profesionales. OBJETIVO: Conocer el interés de los farmacéuticos comunitarios alicantinos por los servicios de AF, y sus preferencias para implantar/mejorar éstos. MÉTODO: Estudio transversal realizado marzo-mayo de 2012, mediante un cuestionario anónimo a todos los colegiados ejercientes en OF, consensuado por la comisión de AF del COFA, disponible en la web colegial 70 días. Con preguntas referentes a su implantación, protocolización, registros, evaluación y ayudas sugeridas para su implantación/mejora.   RESULTADOS: Respondieron 19,9% de los colegiados ejercientes en FC, afirmando la mayoría querer mejorar su trabajo. Siguen protocolos para IF el 58%, automedicación un 60% y 33% para dispensación con receta. Realizan SFT un 23% y SPD 15%. La mayoría no registra las actuaciones, siendo 77% en IF, 70% en automedicación, 78% dispensación con receta, excepto SFT con 25%. Como formato de registro, se prefiere papel, excepto en SFT que son aplicaciones informáticas. La mayoría evalúa el resultado en ocasiones, solo un 8% lo hace siempre. En SFT lo evalúan siempre un 29%. Se prefiere un servicio de información frente a dudas, seguido de uno de apoyo a la implantación. CONCLUSIONES: Existe interés entre los farmacéuticos alicantinos por la AF. Sería deseable un mayor grado de implantación de estos servicios, existiendo gran recorrido de mejora en la protocolización, el registro y la evaluación de los resultados. Como herramientas para ello, destaca la solicitud al colegio de un servicio de información frente a dudas

    Combining several techniques, we propose an efficient and numerically reliable method to perform the quantum number projection and configuration mixing for most general mean-field states, i.e., the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) type product states without symmetry restrictions. As for example of calculations, we show the results of the simultaneous parity, number and angular-momentum projection from HFB type states generated from the cranked Woods-Saxon mean-field with a very large basis that is composed of Nmax=20 spherical harmonic oscillator shells
