Search for the Radiative Capture d+d->^4He+\gamma Reaction from the dd\mu Muonic Molecule State

A search for the muon catalyzed fusion reaction dd --> ^4He +\gamma in the dd\mu muonic molecule was performed using the experimental \mu CF installation TRITON and NaI(Tl) detectors for \gamma-quanta. The high pressure target filled with deuterium at temperatures from 85 K to 800 K was exposed to the negative muon beam of the JINR phasotron to detect \gamma-quanta with energy 23.8 MeV. The first experimental estimation for the yield of the radiative deuteron capture from the dd\mu state J=1 was obtained at the level n_{\gamma}\leq 2\times 10^{-5} per one fusion.Comment: 9 pages, 3 Postscript figures, submitted to Phys. Ground-based water vapour soundings by microwave radiometry and Raman lidar on Jungfraujoch (Swiss Alps)

International audienceWater vapour has been measured from the International Scientific Station Jungfraujoch (ISSJ, 47° N, 7° E, 3580m above sea level) during the winters of 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 by microwave radiometry and Raman lidar. The abundance of atmospheric water vapour between the planetary boundary layer and the upper stratosphere varies over more than three orders of magnitude. The currently used measurement techniques are only suited to determine the abundance of water vapour in different atmospheric regimes. None can resolve the vertical distribution profile from ground level to the top of the stratosphere by itself. We present such a water vapour profile where simultaneous measurements from a Raman lidar and a microwave radiometer were combined to cover both the troposphere and the stratosphere, respectively. We also present a study of the stratospheric and tropospheric water vapour variability for the two consecutive winters

ASSESSMENT OF SURVIVAL OF ZYGOMATIC IMPLANTS AND ROOT DENTAL IMPLANTS

    Get PDF
Currently, dental implantation has taken a leading position in the complex treatment of various dental diseases as the main and the most progressive method of restoring the quality of life of patients. Work is devoted to studying of implants survival at 29 patients of specialized unit of multi-speciality hospital. 68 zygomatic implants and 137 root dental implants were set up to these patients. Implants were set up to get stomatologic rehabilitation of patients with the acquired adentia of jaws. The comparative assessment of survival of zygomatic and dental implants was carried out, the period of observation was 36 months. The assessment of survival of root dental implants at all patients operated for the reporting period of time was carried also out

Polarization lidars with conical scanning for retrieving the microphysical characteristics of cirrus clouds

    Get PDF
The paper presents the first results of observations of cirrus clouds by polarization lidars with conical scanning, which were developed in Hefei (China) and in Tomsk (Russia). The light scattering matrix of ice crystal particles of cirrus clouds has been calculated for the first by the authors within the framework of the physical optics approximations in the case of conical scanning lidar. It is found that in this case the Mueller matrix consists of ten non-zero elements, four of which are small and can’t be applied to interpret the azimuthal distribution of particle orientation. All the diagonal elements have a strong azimuthal dependence. Among the off-diagonal elements only one element M34 carries additional information for interpreting the azimuthal distribution. © (2015) COPYRIGHT Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). A Precision Measurement of Nuclear Muon Capture on 3He

    Get PDF
The muon capture rate in the reaction mu- 3He -> nu + 3H has been measured at PSI using a modular high pressure ionization chamber. The rate corresponding to statistical hyperfine population of the mu-3He atom is (1496.0 +- 4.0) s^-1. This result confirms the PCAC prediction for the pseudoscalar form factors of the 3He-3H system and the nucleon.Comment: 13 pages, 6 PostScript figure

First Measurement of the Tensor Structure Function b1b_1 of the Deuteron

The \Hermes experiment has investigated the tensor spin structure of the deuteron using the 27.6 GeV/c positron beam of \Hera. The use of a tensor polarized deuteron gas target with only a negligible residual vector polarization enabled the first measurement of the tensor asymmetry \At and the tensor structure function \bd for average values of the Bj{\o}rken variable 0.01<0.450.01<0.45 and of the squared four-momentum transfer 0.5GeV2<5GeV20.5 {\rm GeV^2} <5 {\rm GeV^2}. The quantities \At and \bd are found to be non-zero. The rise of \bd for decreasing values of xx can be interpreted to originate from the same mechanism that leads to nuclear shadowing in unpolarized scattering

Search for an exotic S=-2, Q=-2 baryon resonance at a mass near 1862 MeV in quasi-real photoproduction

A search for an exotic baryon resonance with S=2,Q=2S=-2, Q=-2 has been performed in quasi-real photoproduction on a deuterium target through the decay channel ΞπΛππpπππ\Xi^- \pi^- \to \Lambda \pi^- \pi^- \to p \pi^- \pi^- \pi^-. No evidence for a previously reported Ξ(1860)\Xi^{--}(1860) resonance is found in the Ξπ\Xi^- \pi^-invariant mass spectrum. An upper limit for the photoproduction cross section of 2.1 nb is found at the 90% confidence level. The photoproduction cross section for the Ξ0(1530)\Xi^{0}(1530) is found to be between 9 and 24 nb

Single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering on a transversely polarized hydrogen target

Single-spin asymmetries for semi-inclusive electroproduction of charged pions in deep-inelastic scattering of positrons are measured for the first time with transverse target polarization. The asymmetry depends on the azimuthal angles of both the pion (ϕ\phi) and the target spin axis (ϕS\phi_S) about the virtual photon direction and relative to the lepton scattering plane. The extracted Fourier component \cmpi is a signal of the previously unmeasured quark transversity distribution, in conjunction with the so-called Collins fragmentation function, also unknown. The Fourier component \smpi of the asymmetry arises from a correlation between the transverse polarization of the target nucleon and the intrinsic transverse momentum of quarks, as represented by the previously unmeasured Sivers distribution function. Evidence for both signals is observed, but the Sivers asymmetry may be affected by exclusive vector meson productio

Evidence for a narrow |S|=1 baryon state at a mass of 1528 MeV in quasi-real photoproduction

    Get PDF
Evidence for a narrow baryon state is found in quasi-real photoproduction on a deuterium target through the decay channel p K^0_S --> p pi^+ pi^-. A peak is observed in the p K^0_S invariant mass spectrum at 1528 +/- 2.6 (stat) +/-2.1 (syst) MeV. Depending on the background model, the naive statistical significance of the peak is 4--6 standard deviations and its width may be somewhat larger than the experimental resolution of sigma=4.3 -- 6.2 MeV. This state may be interpreted as the predicted S=+1 exotic Theta^{+}(uuddbar(s)) pentaquark baryon. No signal for an hypothetical Theta^{++} baryon was observed in the pK^+ invariant mass distribution. The absence of such a signal indicates that an isotensor Theta is excluded and an isovector Theta is unlikely.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
