    From International Horror Films to the Local Filem Seram: Examining the Cinematic Identity and Roles of the Malaysian Pontianak

    Malaysian horror films describe the pontianak as a supernatural entity with overflowing hair, vampire-like traits and a beautiful woman capable of seducing, charming and alluring her male victims. Once she has her target trapped, she transforms back into an unsightly pontianak and exacts her vengeance. Her capability of resurrecting from the afterlife and using her sexuality in seeking for death and destruction to those who have wronged her could position her as a villain or antagonist due to the chaos, destruction and murder to those regardless of innocence. Short of being labelled as a vamp or femme fatale, the pontianak continues being stereotyped as oppressive and monstrous for she gains supernatural strength and destablises a film's equilibrium. In short, the pontianak is seen as a threat towards partriachal order and such forms of representations are similarly shared in horror films globally. Using the films Sumpah Pontianak (1958) and Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam (2004), this paper examines the representation, identity and roles of the Malaysian cinematic pontianak within the contexts of local and global horror cinema

    MAPPING THE CONVERGENCE TRENDS OF TELEVISION BROADCASTING MEDIA IN INDONESIA

    This research will analyze the media convergence with the rapid development of the existing equipment in the broadcasting system of the television station in Indonesia. The digitalisation and advancement of communication and information technology have a tremendous impact on the emergence of a new paradigm and therefore, will also change the overall perspective of humans about various problems that occur around them. With the emergence of digital channels, the analogue media cannot support the existing system independently and require the integration of technologies in the discovery of new platforms. To analyze the paradigm shift of the television stations in Indonesia, this research uses the case study research method through interviews and observation data collection techniques. The research results show that technological and information changes in the broadcasting system in some technical parts of television media, i.e. the library system, post-production and broadcasting systems in the control room of the research. In responding to media convergence, the diversity of technologies involved in the processes of convergence, it makes the work more practical and efficient. Efficiency is very visible in the decent decrease of the production finance (cost) where works become competent with the integration of related units in the processes of convergence

    Sentinel Lymph-Node Biopsy in Early-Stage Cervical Cancer: The 4-Year Follow-Up Results of the Senticol 2 Trial.

    Senticol 2 is a randomized multicenter trial in the treatment of early-stage cervical cancer patients. The aim of the Senticol 2 study was to compare the effect of sentinel-lymph-node biopsy (SLNB) to that of SLNB + pelvic lymphadenectomy (PLND), and to determine the postoperative lymphatic morbidity in the two groups. Here, we report a secondary objective of this study: the follow up. In the Senticol 2 trial, patients underwent a laparoscopy with a sentinel-node-detection procedure and were randomized into two groups, namely: Group A, in which participants received SLNB, and Group B, in which participants received SLNB + PLND. Patients with an intra-operative macroscopically suspicious lymph node, were given a frozen-section evaluation and were randomized only if the results were negative. All of the patients received follow up with a clinical examination at 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery, and then every 3-4 months after that. The median follow up was 51 months (4 years and 3 months). Disease-free survival after 4 years for the SLNB group and the SLNB + PLND group were 89.51% and 93.1% (p = 0.53), respectively. The only statistical factor associated with recurrence in the univariate analysis was the adjuvant radiotherapy. No other factors, including the age of the patients, histological type, tumor size, lymph vascular space invasion (LVSI), and positive nodal status, were significant in the univariate or multivariate analyses. The overall survival rates after 4 years in the SLNB and SLNB + PLND groups were 95.2% and 96% (p = 0.97), with five and four deaths, respectively. The univariate and multivariate analyses did not find any prognostic factors. This randomized study confirmed the results of the Senticol 1 study and supports the sentinel lymph node (SLN) technique as a safe technique for use in patients with early-stage cervical cancer treated with SLNB only.     Masjid ittihadul Ummah berlokasi di perumnas Made Kabupaten Lamongan. Karena kebutuhan untuk perluasan area masjid, dilakukan pembangunan masjid untuk memenuhi kebutuhan ruang bagi jamaah sholat. Pada perencanaan dibagi menjadi dua tahap pelaksanaan yaitu tahap pertama, pembangunan masjid yang terletak pada lahan kosong sebelah barat masjid kemudian dilakukan tahap kedua yaitu renovasi masjid yang lama. Untuk lebih jelasnya berikut gambaran tahapan pembangunan masjid ittihadul Ummah. Progress yang telah dilakukan pertanggal 21 Desember 2020 yakni pengurugan untuk lahan tahapan pertama, seperti gambar diatas. Yang kemudian untuk perencanaan konstruksi masjid serta Desain arsitektural dilakukan oleh penulis sebagai tugas pengganti KP.     Nomogram Predicting the Likelihood of Parametrial Involvement in Early-Stage Cervical Cancer: Avoiding Unjustified Radical Hysterectomies

    Background: We aimed to establish a tool predicting parametrial involvement (PI) in patients with early-stage cervical cancer and select a sub-group of patients who would most benefit from a less radical surgery. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients from two prospective multicentric databases—SENTICOL I and II—from 2005 to 2012. Patients with early-stage cervical cancer (FIGO 2018 IA with lympho-vascular involvement to IIA1), undergoing radical surgery (hysterectomy or trachelectomy) with bilateral sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping with no metastatic node or PI on pre-operative imaging, were included. Results: In total, 5.2% patients (11/211) presented a histologic PI. After univariate analysis, SLN status, lympho-vascular space invasion, deep stromal invasion and tumor size were significantly associated with PI and were included in our nomogram. Our predictive model had an AUC of 0.92 (IC95% = 0.86–0.98) and presented a good calibration. A low risk group, defined according to the optimal sensitivity and specificity, presented a predicted probability of PI of 2%. Conclusion: Patients could benefit from a two-step approach. Final surgery (i.e. radical surgery and/or lymphadenectomy) would depend on the SLN status and the probability PI calculated after an initial conization with bilateral SLN mapping

    Correlation of high temperature X-ray photoemission spectral features and conductivity of epitaxially strained (La0.8Sr0.2)0.95Ni0.2Fe0.8O3/SrTiO3(110)

    Reversible and irreversible discontinuities at around 573 K and 823 K in the electric conductivity of a strained 175 nm thin film of (La0.8Sr0.2)0.95Ni0.2Fe0.8O3-{\delta} grown by pulsed laser deposition on SrTiO3 (110) are reflected by valence band changes as monitored in photoemission and oxygen K-edge x-ray absorption spectra. The irreversible jump at 823 K is attributed to depletion of doped electron holes and reduction of Fe4+ to Fe3+, as evidenced by oxygen and iron core level soft x-ray spectroscopy, and possibly of a chemical origin, whereas the reversible jump at 573 K possibly originates from structural changes

    External beam radiotherapy boost versus surgical debulking followed by radiotherapy for the treatment of metastatic lymph nodes in cervical cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

    We aimed to assess disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS) and treatment-related toxicity of two therapeutic strategies for treating bulky lymph nodes on imaging in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC): radiotherapy boost versus surgical debulking followed by radiotherapy. We performed a systematic review of studies published up to October 2023. We selected studies including patients with LACC treated by external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) boost or lymph node debulking followed by EBRT (with or without boost). We included two comparative (included in the meta-analysis) and nine non-comparative studies. The estimated 3-year recurrence rate was 28.2% (95%CI:18.3-38.0) in the EBRT group and 39.9% (95%CI:22.1-57.6) in the surgical debulking plus EBRT group. The estimated 3-year DFS was 71.8% and 60.1%, respectively (p = 0.19). The estimated 3-year death rate was 22.2% (95%CI:11.2-33.2) in the EBRT boost group and 31.9% (95%CI:23.3-40.5) in the surgical debulking plus EBRT group. The estimated 3-year OS was 77.8% and 68.1%, respectively (p = 0.04). No difference in lymph node recurrence between the two comparative studies (p = 0.36). The meta-analysis of the two comparative studies showed no DFS difference (p = 0.13) but better OS in the radiotherapy boost group (p = 0.006). The incidence of grade≥3 toxicities (ranging 0-50%) was not different between the two approaches in the two comparative studies (p = 0.31). No DFS and toxicity difference when comparing EBRT boost with surgical debulking of enlarged lymph nodes and EBRT in patients with cervical cancer was evident. Radiotherapy boost had better OS. Further investigation is required to better understand the prognostic role of surgical lymph node debulking in light of radiotherapy developments

    Irradiation-induced Ag nanocluster nucleation in silicate glasses: analogy with photography

    The synthesis of Ag nanoclusters in sodalime silicate glasses and silica was studied by optical absorption (OA) and electron spin resonance (ESR) experiments under both low (gamma-ray) and high (MeV ion) deposited energy density irradiation conditions. Both types of irradiation create electrons and holes whose density and thermal evolution - notably via their interaction with defects - are shown to determine the clustering and growth rates of Ag nanocrystals. We thus establish the influence of redox interactions of defects and silver (poly)ions. The mechanisms are similar to the latent image formation in photography: irradiation-induced photoelectrons are trapped within the glass matrix, notably on dissolved noble metal ions and defects, which are thus neutralized (reverse oxidation reactions are also shown to exist). Annealing promotes metal atom diffusion, which in turn leads to cluster nuclei formation. The cluster density depends not only on the irradiation fluence, but also - and primarily - on the density of deposited energy and the redox properties of the glass. Ion irradiation (i.e., large deposited energy density) is far more effective in cluster formation, despite its lower neutralization efficiency (from Ag+ to Ag0) as compared to gamma photon irradiation.Comment: 48 pages, 18 figures, revised version publ. in Phys.
