Emerging Pattern of Exploitation of the Marine Fishery Resources of the Inshore Waters of India with Particular Reference to Low Energy Fishing
Marine fish production has registered
an average annual growth rate of 9.8%. The
unusual abundance of pelagic resources like
oil sardine and mackerel in 1989 and a consistently
increasing trend in the yield of
carangids have been also responsible for
this increased production. Introduction of
trawling in early seventies gave a sudden
upward push in the production and it got
stabilized
Stock assessment of the Indian oil-sardinella (Sardinella longiceps) off the West Coast of India
The Indian oil-sardinella (Sardinella longiceps Val .) has traditionally played a critical role in the marine fishery economics of India, and in particular in the State of Kerala. It's production on the west coast of India exhibits large fluctuations over the years, though it continues to
be commercially the most important and abundant pelagic resource (Table 1). These fluctuations have attracted the attention of many research workers. As early as 1910 Hornell attributed them to changes in diatom production or food availability to the fry and the prevalence of favourable hydrological conditions. Kesteven (1967) was of the view that the fluctuations are related to shifts in the migratory path of the fish, causing variations in the accessibility of the stocks to fishing due to the limited range of the fishing operations
Status, prospects and management of small pelagic fisheries in India
The annual small pelagic fish production increased from 0.30 million
mt during 1950-54 to 1.24 million mt during 1996 along the Indian coast.
The 4 fold increase was possible due to several technological
advancements. The potenrial yield from the pelagic resources of the EEZ is
estimated to be 2.2 million mt. As there is no further scope for increasing
the production from the inshore waters, there is need to bring the outer
shelf and oceanic waters into increasing levels of exploitation
Packages of Practices for Sustainable, Ecofriendly Mariculture (Land-based Saline Aquaculture and Seafarming)
The problems of fast growing human population and protein deficit, particularly in the developing countries continue to exert pressure on the fisheries resources available for exploitation in the wild water bodies. The increasingly limited opportunities in the capture fisheries sector have generated considerable interest in aquaculture
Can saliva offer an advantage in monitoring of diabetes mellitus?: a case control study
Objectives: Diabetes Mellitus is emerging as a major health problem over these years. Present method of blood
glucose monitoring by venepuncture is invasive leading to reduced patient compliance and thereby ineffective
judicious monitoring. The need of the hour is to direct research in the direction of establishing painless and more
acceptable blood glucose analysis method. The objective of the study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the
concentrations of salivary glucose and blood glucose in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.
Study Design: This study assessed glucose levels using the glucose oxidase method in blood and unstimulated sali
-
va in 90 subjects who were divided into 3 equal groups of controlled type 2 diabetes, uncontrolled type 2 diabetes
and those without diabetes. Statistical analysis was carried out using one way ANOVA, Post hoc Tukeys tests and
Pearson's correlation coefficient test.
Results: Salivary glucose levels were significantly higher in patients with diabetes than controls. There was a signi
-
ficant positive correlation between salivary and plasma glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
Conclusions: Glucose concentration in saliva is higher in diabetics but hyperglycemia does not influence salivary
glucose levels. Further clarification is required to claim the diagnostic potentials of saliva in diabetes
INSAT-2A and 2B development mechanisms
The Indian National Satellite (INSAT) 2A and 2B have deployment mechanisms for deploying the solar array, two C/S band antenna reflectors and a coilable lattice boom with sail. The mechanisms have worked flawlessly on both satellites. The configuration details, precautions taken during the design phase, the test philosophy, and some of the critical analysis activities are discussed
The link between individual personality traits and criminality: A systematic review
In addition to social and environmental factors, individual personality traits have intricately linked with maladaptive behaviour. Thus, the purpose of this article was to review the link between individual personality traits and criminality. A systematic review was conducted to obtain information regarding the link between individual personality traits with criminal behaviour in the Sage, Web of Science, APA PsycNet, Wiley Online Library, and PubMed databases. The results indicate that individual personality traits that contribute towards criminality are (i) psychopathy; (ii) low self-control; and (iii) difficult temperament. As an overall impact, the review is expected to provide in-depth understanding of the link between individual personality traits and criminality; hence, greater consideration will be given to the dimension of personality as a notable risk factor of criminal behaviour

A Guide to Localized Frames and Applications to Galerkin-like Representations of Operators
This chapter offers a detailed survey on intrinsically localized frames and
the corresponding matrix representation of operators. We re-investigate the
properties of localized frames and the associated Banach spaces in full detail.
We investigate the representation of operators using localized frames in a
Galerkin-type scheme. We show how the boundedness and the invertibility of
matrices and operators are linked and give some sufficient and necessary
conditions for the boundedness of operators between the associated Banach
spaces.Comment: 32 page
