    Design and Experimental Validation of a Ducted Counter-rotating Axial-flow Fans System

    An experimental study on the design of counter-rotating axial-flow fans was carried out. The fans were designed using an inverse method. In particular, the system is designed to have a pure axial discharge flow. The counter-rotating fans operate in a ducted-flow configuration and the overall performances are measured in a normalized test bench. The rotation rate of each fan is independently controlled. The relative axial spacing between fans can vary from 17% to 310%. The results show that the efficiency is strongly increased compared to a conventional rotor or to a rotor-stator stage. The effects of varying the rotation rates ratio on the overall performances are studied and show that the system has a very flexible use, with a large patch of high efficient operating points in the parameter space.     Synthesis and Theoretical Study of 4-(2-methyl-4-oxoquinazoline-3(4H)-yl) Benzoic acid with Some Transition Metal Ions

    New complexes of the type [ML2(H2O)2] ,[FeL2(H2O)Cl] and [VOL2] were M=Co(II),Ni(II) and Cu(II) ,L=4-(2-methyl-4-oxoquinazoline-3(4H)-yl) benzoic acid were synthesized and characterized by element analysis, magnetic susceptibility ,molar conductance ,FT-IR and UV-visible. The studies indicate that the L acts as doubly monodentate bridge for metal ions and form mononuclear complexes. The complexes are found to be octahedral except V(IV) complex is square pyrimde shape . The structural geometries of compounds were also suggested in gas phase by theoretical treatments, using Hyper chem-6 program for the molecular mechanics and semi-empirical calculations, addition heat of formation(?Hf ?) and binding energy (?Eb)for the free ligands and it’s metal complexes were calculated by using PM3 method .PM3 was used to evaluate the vibration spectra of ligand and compare the theoretically calculated wave numbers with experimental values ,the theoretically obtained frequencies agreed calculation helped to assign unambiguously the most diagnostic bands

    ABSTRACT Recent studies on automotive engine cooling fan systems carried out in partnership between LEMFI and Valeo have led to the definition of a range of efficient stator designs. It was shown that an adequate rotor-stator coupling could yield significant efficiency gains over the whole range of Valeo fans with diameters ranging from 280 mm to 460 mm. Efficiency gains ranging from 12 percentage points for the 350 mm fan diameter to 2 points for the 460 mm were estimated by using a simplified radial equilibrium design (SRE). These predictions have been verified experimentally by recent designs for various fan system diameters. The present study then describes a newly developed aeroacoustic test facility dedicated to automotive fan systems. The influence of the rotor-stator coupling is then shown by comparing the rotor alone and rotor-stator configurations, not only on the overall performances and velocity fields at the system outlet measured by a 5-hole probe, but also on the noise generated by the fan systems for various flow conditions. At the nominal flow rate, the efficient stators are shown to bring little or no extra noise if the number of stators and the rotor-distance are carefully chosen. At other flow rates, additional noise might be expected

    Effects of Androctonus crassicauda (Olivier, 1807) (Scorpiones: Buthidae) venom on rat metabolism

    Scorpions are venomous arthropods of the Arachnida class and are considered relatives of spiders, ticks and mites. There is not any study about the biochemical effects of Androctonus crassicauda (Olivier, 1807) venom. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed at evaluating the toxicity of the venom from A. crassicauda, which is responsible for a number of deaths of infants, children and adults in tropical and subtropical countries. For this purpose, rats (n=35) were divided into seven groups of five animals each; venom solutions (250µg/kg) were subcutaneously injected into rats; blood samples were taken from each animal at various times; and serum biochemical parameters were measured (levels of total proteins, total bilirubin, albumin, globulin, urea, creatinine, uric acid, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, sodium, chlorine, potassium and calcium, and the activity of the enzymes alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyl transferase, lactate dehydrogenase). Serum levels of glucose, cholesterol, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and uric acid increased in envenomed animals, compared to controls. There was a statistically positive correlation between Na+ and Cl- ions

    Evaluation of hydrodynamic chromatography coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry for speciation of dissolved and nanoparticulate gold and silver

    In this study, hydrodynamic chromatography coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry has been evaluated for the simultaneous determination of dissolved and nanoparticulate species of gold and silver. Optimization of mobile phase was carried out with special attention to the column recovery of the different species and the resolution between them. Addition of 0.05 mM penicillamine to the mobile phase allowed the quantitative recovery of ionic gold and gold nanoparticles up to 50 nm, whereas 1 mM penicillamine was necessary for quantitative recovery of ionic silver and silver nanoparticles up to 40 nm. The resolution achieved between ionic gold and 10-nm gold nanoparticles was 0.7, whereas it ranged between 0.31 and 0.93 for ionic silver and 10-nm silver nanoparticles, depending on the composition of mobile phase. Best-case mass concentration detection limits for gold and silver species were 0.05 and 0.75 µg L-1, respectively. The developed methods allowed the simultaneous detection of nanoparticulate and dissolved species of gold and silver in less than 10 min. Size determination and quantification of gold and silver species were carried out in different dietary supplements, showing good agreement with the results obtained by electron microscopy and total and ultrafiltrable contents, respectively. Due to the attainable resolution, the quality of the quantitative results is affected by the relative abundance of nanoparticulate and dissolved species of the element and the size of the nanoparticles if present.     Influence of design parameters on the unsteady flow in a centrifugal fan

    ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of design parameters on the unsteady flow in a forward-curved centrifugal fan and their impact on the aeroacoustic behavior. To do so, numerical and experimental study has been carried out on four centrifugal impellers designed with various geometrical parameters. The same volute casing has been used to study these fans. The effects on the unsteady flow behavior related to irregular blade spacing, blade number and radial distance between the impeller periphery and the volute tongue have been studied. The numerical simulations of the unsteady flow have been carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamics tools (CFD) based on Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes approach (URANS). The sliding mesh technique has been applied at the interfaces between the rotating and stationary zones in order to model the blades' motion relative to the volute casing. The study is focused on the unsteadiness induced by the aerodynamic interaction between the volute and the rotating impeller blades. In order to predict the acoustic pressure at far field, the unsteady flow variables provided by the CFD calculations (pressure and velocity fluctuations acquired upon the surfaces of the rotating blades) have been used as inputs in the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equations (FW-H). Using this model, the acoustic pressure has been computed at the fan exit duct. The experimental part of this work concerns measurement of aerodynamic performance of the fans using a test bench built according to ISO 5801 [1] standard. In addition to this, pressure microphones have been flush-mounted on the volute tongue surface in order to measure the wall pressure fluctuations. The sound pressure level (SPL) measurements have been carried out in an anechoic room in order to remove undesired noise reflections. Finally, the numerical results have been compared with the experimental measurements and a correlation between the wall pressure fluctuations and the far field noise signals has been found
