A complete set of polarization transfer observables has been measured for the
reaction at and . The total spin transfer and the observable
deduced from the measured polarization transfer observables indicate that
the spin--dipole resonance at has greater
strength than strength, which is consistent with recent experimental and
theoretical studies. The results also indicate a predominance of the spin-flip
and unnatural-parity transition strength in the continuum. The exchange tensor
interaction at a large momentum transfer of is

Partial differential equations for self-organization in cellular and developmental biology
Understanding the mechanisms governing and regulating the emergence of structure and heterogeneity within cellular systems, such as the developing embryo, represents a multiscale challenge typifying current integrative biology research, namely, explaining the macroscale behaviour of a system from microscale dynamics. This review will focus upon modelling how cell-based dynamics orchestrate the emergence of higher level structure. After surveying representative biological examples and the models used to describe them, we will assess how developments at the scale of molecular biology have impacted on current theoretical frameworks, and the new modelling opportunities that are emerging as a result. We shall restrict our survey of mathematical approaches to partial differential equations and the tools required for their analysis. We will discuss the gap between the modelling abstraction and biological reality, the challenges this presents and highlight some open problems in the field
Features of Time-independent Wigner Functions
The Wigner phase-space distribution function provides the basis for Moyal's
deformation quantization alternative to the more conventional Hilbert space and
path integral quantizations. General features of time-independent Wigner
functions are explored here, including the functional ("star") eigenvalue
equations they satisfy; their projective orthogonality spectral properties;
their Darboux ("supersymmetric") isospectral potential recursions; and their
canonical transformations. These features are illustrated explicitly through
simple solvable potentials: the harmonic oscillator, the linear potential, the

The Mock LISA Data Challenges: from Challenge 3 to Challenge 4
The Mock LISA Data Challenges are a program to demonstrate LISA data-analysis
capabilities and to encourage their development. Each round of challenges
consists of one or more datasets containing simulated instrument noise and
gravitational waves from sources of undisclosed parameters. Participants
analyze the datasets and report best-fit solutions for the source parameters.
Here we present the results of the third challenge, issued in Apr 2008, which
demonstrated the positive recovery of signals from chirping Galactic binaries,
from spinning supermassive--black-hole binaries (with optimal SNRs between ~ 10
and 2000), from simultaneous extreme-mass-ratio inspirals (SNRs of 10-50), from
cosmic-string-cusp bursts (SNRs of 10-100), and from a relatively loud
isotropic background with Omega_gw(f) ~ 10^-11, slightly below the LISA

The association of health literacy with adherence in older 2 adults, and its role in interventions: a systematic meta-review
Background: Low health literacy is a common problem among older adults. It is often suggested to be associated with poor adherence. This suggested association implies a need for effective adherence interventions in low health literate people. However, previous reviews show mixed results on the association between low health literacy and poor adherence. A systematic meta-review of systematic reviews was conducted to study the association between health literacy and adherence in adults above the age of 50. Evidence for the effectiveness of adherence interventions among adults in this older age group with low health literacy was also explored. Methods: Eight electronic databases (MEDLINE, ERIC, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, DARE, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Knowledge) were searched using a variety of keywords regarding health literacy and adherence. Additionally, references of identified articles were checked. Systematic reviews were included if they assessed the association between health literacy and adherence or evaluated the effectiveness of interventions to improve adherence in adults with low health literacy. The AMSTAR tool was used to assess the quality of the included reviews. The selection procedure, data-extraction, and quality assessment were performed by two independent reviewers. Seventeen reviews were selected for inclusion. Results: Reviews varied widely in quality. Both reviews of high and low quality found only weak or mixed associations between health literacy and adherence among older adults. Reviews report on seven studies that assess the effectiveness of adherence interventions among low health literate older adults. The results suggest that some adherence interventions are effective for this group. The interventions described in the reviews focused mainly on education and on lowering the health literacy demands of adherence instructions. No conclusions could be drawn about which type of intervention could be most beneficial for this population. Conclusions: Evidence on the association between health literacy and adherence in older adults is relatively weak. Adherence interventions are potentially effective for the vulnerable population of older adults with low levels of health literacy, but the evidence on this topic is limited. Further research is needed on the association between health literacy and general health behavior, and on the effectiveness of interventions
Direct CP violation in charm and flavor mixing beyond the SM
We analyze possible interpretations of the recent LHCb evidence for CP
violation in D meson decays in terms of physics beyond the Standard Model. On
general grounds, models in which the primary source of flavor violation is
linked to the breaking of chiral symmetry (left-right flavor mixing) are
natural candidates to explain this effect, via enhanced chromomagnetic
operators. In the case of supersymmetric models, we identify two motivated
scenarios: disoriented A-terms and split families. These structures predict
other non-standard signals, such as nuclear EDMs close to their present bounds
and, possibly, tiny but visible deviations in K and B physics, or even sizable
flavor-violating processes involving the top quark or the stops. Some of these
connections, especially the one with nuclear EDMs, hold beyond supersymmetry,
as illustrated with the help of prototype non-supersymmetric models.Comment: 30 pages, 6 figure
Polarimetry and Unification of Low-Redshift Radio Galaxies
We have made high-quality measurements of the polarization spectra of 13 FR
II radio galaxies and taken polarization images for 11 of these with the Keck
telescopes. Seven of the eight narrow-line radio galaxies (NLRG) are polarized,
and six of the seven show prominent broad Balmer lines in polarized light. The
broad lines are also weakly visible in total flux. Some of the NLRG show
bipolar regions with roughly circumferential polarization vectors, revealing a
large reflection nebula illuminated by a central source. Our observations
powerfully support the hidden quasar hypothesis for some NLRG. Classification
as NLRG, broad-line radio galaxy (BLRG), or quasar therefore depends on
orientation. However, not all objects fit into this unification scheme. Our
sample is biased towards objects known in advance to be polarized, but the
combination of our results with those of Hill, Goodrich and DePoy (1996) show
that at least 6 out of a complete, volume and flux-limited sample of 9 FR II

Epistemic and social scripts in computer-supported collaborative learning
Collaborative learning in computer-supported learning environments typically means that learners work on tasks together, discussing their individual perspectives via text-based media or videoconferencing, and consequently acquire knowledge. Collaborative learning, however, is often sub-optimal with respect to how learners work on the concepts that are supposed to be learned and how learners interact with each other. One possibility to improve collaborative learning environments is to conceptualize epistemic scripts, which specify how learners work on a given task, and social scripts, which structure how learners interact with each other. In this contribution, two studies will be reported that investigated the effects of epistemic and social scripts in a text-based computer-supported learning environment and in a videoconferencing learning environment in order to foster the individual acquisition of knowledge. In each study the factors ‘epistemic script’ and ‘social script’ have been independently varied in a 2×2-factorial design. 182 university students of Educational Science participated in these two studies. Results of both studies show that social scripts can be substantially beneficial with respect to the individual acquisition of knowledge, whereas epistemic scripts apparently do not to lead to the expected effects
Detecting a stochastic gravitational wave background with the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna
The random superposition of many weak sources will produce a stochastic
background of gravitational waves that may dominate the response of the LISA
(Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) gravitational wave observatory. Unless
something can be done to distinguish between a stochastic background and
detector noise, the two will combine to form an effective noise floor for the
detector. Two methods have been proposed to solve this problem. The first is to
cross-correlate the output of two independent interferometers. The second is an
ingenious scheme for monitoring the instrument noise by operating LISA as a
Sagnac interferometer. Here we derive the optimal orbital alignment for
cross-correlating a pair of LISA detectors, and provide the first analytic
