Motivational Impacts of the Google Docs Integration to Support Collaborative Writing: A Review Approach
In recent decades, various digital technology tools such as Google Docs, wikis, and other collaborative writing platforms have shifted the writing perspectives from product-based to process-based writing. Motivation is a crucial component in developing learners' writing skills. It is not feasible to study if one lacks motivation. Therefore, the function of motivation in student learning is crucial to ensure effective writing among students. This paper presents a review of the current trends in the integration of Google Docs in collaborative writing. The review includes critical and analytical discussions on the motivational impact of using Google Docs to support collaborative writing. This study employed content analysis as a data analysis method. The findings show that Google Docs is beneficial to creating a supportive and motivating learning environment for learners. This paper suggests that more studies should be conducted to comprehensively explore the integration of Google Docs in collaborative writing in terms of learning outcomes and attitudes, particularly in the Malaysian higher education setting. Furthermore, examining studies on teachers' attitudes toward collaborative writing and Google Docs integration is highly advised
Evaluating the use of web-based games on students' vocabulary retention
Today, the use of technology has made education more enjoyable. Vocabulary retention becomes a challenging task for both teachers and learners. They may learn the vocabulary but may not retain it. Yet, the use of web-based games may assist them in maintaining words known for short and longterm retention. The current study was conducted to identify students' abilities in retaining words learned after they were assigned to play a web-based vocabulary learning game, namely OnVac. Both short and long-term retention were measured after they were required to play the game as a treatment. Also, the study investigated students' perceptions about the system operation of OnVac. The use of quantitative research design, particularly quasi-experimental research and survey showed gains in vocabulary retention among students for short and long-term retention. The study also found that OnVac can support vocabulary learning among students in their learning of the specialized vocabulary. In terms of the system operation, the participants reported that the tool could assist them in learning engineering and technology words as it was convenient to use. The study provided implications to the teaching pedagogy in that teachers need to be wise and analytical in developing the online game to assist learners in learning English specialized vocabulary
Knowledge Management and Technology Management: The Use of YouTube among Preschool Teachers
Knowledge management is the term used to describe approaches that knowledge workers employ in fulfilling their assigned tasks. The use of technology eases the process of completing their work because it provides systematic methods of managing the process of applying knowledge. Therefore, the current study seeks to find answers on the use of YouTube regarding the type of content selected by the teachers when using the platform and the kind of activities that require them to use the channel for teaching and learning purposes. The study uses qualitative data inquiries to collect responses from 23 preschool teachers. Four themes are formulated as findings in the current study. They are “YouTube consolidates teaching and learning,” “use of YouTube for educational songs,” “use of YouTube to improvise teacher-made songs,” and “nonusage of YouTube.” It concludes that knowledge is transferred explicitly when preschool teachers use the platform as a resource for teaching and learning. The technology, that is, YouTube, has somewhat assisted them in teaching the preschoolers in their early literacy development by watching entertaining yet educational materials. The study implied that YouTube could be an educational resource that teachers can use in teaching young learners. Also, it suggested that it could be a source of information that teachers may use to find relevant materials for their classes
Influence of Students' Motivation on Academic Achievement Among Undergraduate Students in Malaysia
Motivation is essential for students to study and enhance their academic performance. This study aimed to assess the impact of student motivation on academic accomplishment among undergraduate students in the University Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia. How pupils build motivation in themselves may influence how successful they are academically. Pilot research was conducted on 144 participants using exploratory factor analysis to establish the instrument's reliability and validity. However, the study showed no significant difference in accomplishment motivation between high and poor achievers. Similarly, the data found that males and females differed significantly in achievement desire. Using the Statistics Program for Social Science (SPSS) version 20, the data were analysed using correlation analysis and fundamental linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that students' motivation boosted their academic success. Similarly, the regression analysis revealed that motivation was a strong predictor of greater academic accomplishment (GPA)
Improvement of Teaching Effectiveness for Autism Children
Autism is a developmental disorder that affects communication and interaction ability negatively. There has been an increase in its prevalence in current statistics. Consequently, NASOM teachers have also increased the need to teach children with autism. The purpose of this study is to investigate how autism teachers in NASOM can improve their education strategies in terms of knowledge, formation, and competences. The study's location is in Malaysia. The research data were obtained by means of the questionnaire quantitatively. 55 teacher interviews who teach autistic children in NASOM received the questionnaires. Issues were divided into sections like knowledge and competence. They showed, however, an interest in taking advanced courses to increase their skills strategies for autistic children. There is thus a need to improve training of trainers (ToT) and the module by adding more autism components. NASOM teachers also had to be given access to autism training because autism learning has progressed, and several scientifically effective strategies are now available. Several proposals were proposed by the researchers to improve the studies, training, skills, and ToT course presences of autistic students. Analysis was again analysed using t-test, correlation and Regression using SPSS version 20 software for the raw data obtained. The results showed that with their presence at the ToT course there was a difference in knowledge, training, and competency. The ToT course has been found to be effective but still the strategies teaching autistic children need to improve since the results showed moderate and low
Students' attitudes to the implementation of vocabulary learning strategies in writing task
Vocabulary is paramount in language learning. Learners can strategize vocabulary learning using vocabulary learning strategies (VLS), namely memory, cognitive compensation, metacognitive, social, affective, and determination. If used appropriately, VLS can help learners in writing. The study investigates the level of students' attitudes and use of VLS in writing. Also, it examines the male and female students in their attitudes and the use of VLS in writing. Finally, it investigates students' attitudes in writing according to their English grades. A quantitative research method, namely a survey, was employed as the research design in the study. It employed 71 diploma students taking engineering majors in one of the technical universities on the East Coast of Malaysia. The study found that students demonstrated a moderately high attitude in writing but moderately low VLS scores. There was also no significant difference in the attitudes and use of VLS between genders. Finally, there was insufficient evidence to show a significant difference in attitudes and English grades. Nevertheless, the study implied a need to familiarize the students with VLS to improve their writing skills. However, students were not required to use all the VLS as some VLS might be appropriate for a particular task but not the others
