Bubble concentration on spheres for supercritical elliptic problems

    We consider the supercritical Lane-Emden problem (P_\eps)\qquad -\Delta v= |v|^{p_\eps-1} v \ \hbox{in}\ \mathcal{A} ,\quad u=0\ \hbox{on}\ \partial\mathcal{A} where A\mathcal A is an annulus in \rr^{2m}, m2m\ge2 and p_\eps={(m+1)+2\over(m+1)-2}-\eps, \eps>0. We prove the existence of positive and sign changing solutions of (P_\eps) concentrating and blowing-up, as \eps\to0, on (m1)(m-1)-dimensional spheres. Using a reduction method (see Ruf-Srikanth (2010) J. Eur. Math. Soc. and Pacella-Srikanth (2012) arXiv:1210.0782)we transform problem (P_\eps) into a nonhomogeneous problem in an annulus \mathcal D\subset \rr^{m+1} which can be solved by a Ljapunov-Schmidt finite dimensional reduction

    Get PDF

Relativistic Mean Field Approach and the Pseudo-Spin Symmetry

    Get PDF
Based on the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) approach the existence of the broken pseudo-spin symmetry is investigated. Both spherical RMF and constrained deformed RMF calculations are carried out employing realistic Lagrangian parameters for spherical and for deformed sample nuclei. The quasi - degenerate pseudo-spin doublets are confirmed to exist near the fermi surface for both spherical and deformed nuclei.Comment: 9 pages RevTex, 4 p.s figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. Shell model description of normal parity bands in odd-mass heavy deformed nuclei

    Get PDF
The low-energy spectra and B(E2) electromagnetic transition strengths of 159Eu, 159Tb and 159Dy are described using the pseudo SU(3) model. Normal parity bands are built as linear combinations of SU(3) states, which are the direct product of SU(3) proton and neutron states with pseudo spin zero (for even number of nucleons) and pseudo spin 1/2 (for odd number of nucleons). Each of the many-particle states have a well-defined particle number and total angular momentum. The Hamiltonian includes spherical Nilsson single-particle energies, the quadrupole-quadrupole and pairing interactions, as well as three rotor terms which are diagonal in the SU(3) basis. The pseudo SU(3) model is shown to be a powerful tool to describe odd-mass heavy deformed nuclei.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, Accepted to be published in Phys. Rev.

Evidence of a dense water vein along the Libyan continental margin

    Get PDF
For the first time it was possible to investigate a still poorly known region of the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the Libyan continental margin. An oceanographic cruise, performed during summer 2006, revealed an important and novel feature: a dense vein flowing along the continental slope. The paper describes the vein evolution with some insights on its dynamic and furnishes an estimate of its transport, which results to be comparable with the Adriatic Deep Water production rate. The cascading into a steep canyon which incises the continental shelf suggests that the vein may play an important role in ventilating the deep layers of the Ionian Sea

Structural, optical, and mechanical properties of cobalt copper oxide coatings synthesized from low concentrations of sol-gel process

    Get PDF
Thin films of CoxCuyOz have been coated on aluminum substrates via sol–gel route using low concentration of copper and cobalt precursors at annealing temperatures in range of 500–650 °C. The coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometry, and nanoindentation. The XRD analysis in 2θ-range of 30°–42° revealed that the coatings exhibited low crystallinity of CoCu2O3, CoCuO2, and CuCoO2. The surface bonding structure analyzed using XPS indicated that the coating contained: Cu (tetrahedral Cu+ and octahedral Cu2+), Co (octahedral Co3+, tetrahedral Co2+, and mixed Co2+ and Co3+), and O (lattice, surface, and sub-surface oxygens). The optical properties characterized using UV-Vis-NIR showed that the reflectance spectra of coatings formed a spectrally solar selective absorber profile associated with the interference peaks and the absorption edges around wavelengths of below 1.2 μm. The maximum absorptance (α = 75.8%) was shown by coating synthesized at 500 °C. The mechanical properties of coatings showed that the increase of annealing temperature increased the coating's hardness (H) and the elastic modulus (E) due to the enhancement of the [CoCuO2/CuCoO2]:[CoCu2O3] oxide phases ratio, as the result, an excellent stability of the wear resistance (H/E) of around ∼0.035 was recorded

    Pattern of Demand for Money

In the activity of the modern economy, the availability of money as a means of transaction is very important, because with the money as a means to pay consumers can easily to get the basic material needs are required, the manufacturer can provide the raw materials of labor for production, and distributors can obtain a variety of merchandise to be delivered at the end consumer. The pattern of use of money is influenced by the attitude of the public in the transaction. Researchers assume, that there are differences among communities, either by group differences in income, educational differences, ethnic differences, differences in profession, and perhaps even religious differences embraced. So as to provide information to the monetary authorities, to enrich the theory of demand for money based economic agents in Indonesia, and for the application of the theory of demand for money, the researchers felt the need to study patterns of use of money. Qualitative research, in addition to knowing whether the variables that affect the demand for money as the above theory is still relevant for economic actors in Indonesia at this time, or even are new variables, as well as the motive of money demand

The effects of cold and hot smoking and the addition of Dunaliella salina polyphenol extract on the biochemical quality and shelf-life of Sander lucioperca fillets after storage for 90 days at 0-4 °C were examined. The results showed a significant increase in protein, lipid, free fatty acid, and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl contents, and a decrease in peroxide and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, and volatile base nitrogen levels in cold (CSF) and hot (HSF) smoked fillets covered with or without extract and stored for 1, 20, and 90 days compared to fresh fillets (FF). Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids exhibited a significant increase in FF and CSF and HSF covered with or without extract. The total polyunsaturated fatty acids revealed a significant decrease in FF and CSF and HSF with or without extract.
