    Future e-Health systems will consist of low-power, on-body wireless sensors attached to mobile users that interact with a ubiquitous computing environment. This kind of system needs to be able to configure itself with little or no user input; more importantly, it is required to adapt autonomously to changes such as user movement, device failure, the addition or loss of services, and proximity to other such systems. This extended abstract describes the basic architecture of a Self-Managed Cell (SMC) to address these requirements, and discusses various forms of federation between/among SMCs.     Adaptive gender-based thermal control system

    A closed loop adaptive gender-based thermal control system (AG-TCS) is designed, modelled, analysed and tested. The system has the unique feature of adapting to the surrounding environment as a function of the number of humans present and the gender ratio. The operation of the system depends on a unique interface between a radio frequency identification (RFID) device and an imaging device, both of which are correlated and interfaced to a controller. Testing of the system resulted in smooth transition and shape conversion of the response curve, which proved its adaptability. Three mathematical equations describing the internal mechanisms of the AG-TCS are presented and have been proven to optimally reflect the original statistical data covering both genders

    Denosumab-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw; A case series and literature review

    Introduction: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a severely debilitating condition of multifactorial pathogenesis. It primarily involves patients receiving intravenous bisphosphonates (BPs) and most recently the new antiresorptive drug, denosumab, for the treatment of skeletal-related malignancies. There is no curative treatment and no consensus exists regarding the clinical management of such patients. This review aims to share our current clinical experience at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals’ Trust and raise awareness of the increase in severity of ONJ in patients receiving denosumab. Patients and Methods: Four new cases with clinical diagnosis of MRONJ were presented to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals’ Trust. MRONJ was attributed to denosumab therapy, as all patients were treated solely with denosumab for skeletal-related malignancies. Results: All cases appear to have a more aggressive mode of ONJ compared to that seen with IV and/or oral BPs so far. The cause of MRONJ was observed in the presence of periodontal disease alone and following dental extractions. Progression of the disease occurred considerably faster with the development of widespread suppuration and tooth mobility within weeks. Imaging revealed rather extensive areas of bony destruction, sometimes with associated periosteal reaction in keeping with a chronic bony infection. Conclusion: It is imperative for all dental and medical teams involved in treating these patients to understand the side effects of RANKL inhibitors on bone metabolism and how it affects treatment. Helping patients to understand the chronicity and potential progression of the disease is essential to a satisfactory outcome

    Fraud interpretation and disclaimer audit opinion: evidence from the Solomon Islands Public Sector (SIPS)

    Purpose – Financial Transactions Fraud (FTF) and Financial Statements Fraud (FSF) grew exponentially during the last decades coupled with complex and sophisticated technological developments. This study investigates the practitioners’ interpretation of fraud with recurring audit issues in the Disclaimer Audit Opinions (DAOs) reports within the Solomon Islands Public Sector (SIPS). Design/methodology/approach - The empirical study involves qualitative data analysis. The analysis alongside theoretical developments is informed by the “fraud triangle” theory.Findings – The research results revealed the practitioners’ acknowledgement of financial statement Fraud, Financial Transaction Fraud and fraud in the SIPS, as generally prevalent and aligned to some components of the fraud triangle theory. This study is sceptic about the good intentions of the International Public-Sector Accounting Standards –Cash-basis (IPSAS) framework and favours the Provincial Government Act 1997 and the Public Finance Management Act 2013 (PFMA) requirements. It further suggests that fraud is positively linked to repeated audited report issues and the executive management when DAOs issues appear repeatedly in annual audit reports. Originality – This study contributes to the literature on fraud and attempts to link the interpretation of fraud with recurring audit issues in the Disclaimer Audit Opinions (DAOs) reports in the Solomon Islands Public Sector (SIPS). It views fraud awareness and knowledge from the perspective of the audit practitioner. There is an increasing need to understand how fraud knowledge impacts decision making and the actions of auditors and others, an area that is underdeveloped

    Effect of Hydrogen on Pristine Amorphous V2O5 Thin Film

    Sequentially deposited layer by layer up to five vanadium oxide film is deposited on glass and silica substrates at 300 k by vacuum thermal evaporation technique. The deposited samples subjected to reduction process in the preparation situe by hydrogen gas at 473k for 10 minutes and 573 k for 10, 20 minutes. The XRD investigation of the samples demonstrates that the pristine sample is amorphous while those reduced are crystalline. The existed phases in virgin samples are educated by Raman spectroscopy which indicates the single V2O5 phase. The different phases in the reduced sample are identified by analyzing their XRD patterns. The electrical resistance of the reduced samples is measured as a function of temperature during heating and cooling cycles.
