STRATEGIC IT-BUSINESS ALIGNMENT AS MANAGERS’ EXPLORATIVE AND EXPLOITATIVE STRATEGIES

    Get PDF
It has been argued by many that firms in a dynamic environment are challenged to both explore new possibilities to survive in a changing business environment, and to exploit old certainties to secure efficiency benefits. Indeed, as the basic problem confronting an organization is to engage in sufficient exploitation to ensure its current viability and, at the same time, to devote enough energy to exploration to ensure its future viability. Besides managers and academics have recently become more aware of the need to understand how firms could manage exploration and exploitation. This research aims to investigate the literature within the concept of organizational learning orientations. This is done by viewing the definitions and distinctions of exploration and exploitation, how to manage the tension between the two strategies, how management could be organized to deal with exploration and exploitation at the managerial level, and finally ‘exploring’ the relationships between exploration and exploitation with performance. An early study conducted by Venkatraman (1989) described the concept of fit from six measurement perspectives: moderation, mediation, matching, gestalt, covariation, and profile deviation. However, the extant literature in MIS and management often uses the Strategic Alignment Model (SAM) of Henderson and Venkatraman (1993) to explain the ways that firms achieve alignment. Also, Papp (1995) proposed several perspectives for examining the business and IT strategies and infrastructures to determine if they work in harmony or in opposition

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES AS INTERMEDIARY VARIABLES BETWEEN ITBUSINESS STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT AND FIRM PERFORMANCE

Since the relationship between knowledge management and ITbusiness strategic alignment should be investigated further, highlighting the importance of knowledge (both tacit and explicit) in the formation and implementation of IT strategy; this research aims to review and discuss the links between data, information, and knowledge; how researchers classify knowledge; the ways that firms could manage their knowledge and systems; the difficulties and challenges that firms might face when implementing knowledge management systems, and the ways in which managers should resolve such challenges; and empirical research on the linkage between knowledge management strategies and firm performance. Consequently, further research is needed to validate the ways researchers measure the associations among IT-business strategic alignment, knowledge management, and firm performance in both developed and developing countries and across different industries

The study aims at investigating the extent of the applications of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) being practiced in Jordanian business organizations. The study is based on primary data collected through a structured questionnaire from the HR personnel of 236 out 275 of shareholdings companies. The results indicate that the extent of HRIS being practiced is considered to be moderate. This implies that there are some variations among business organisations in terms of their level of implementing of HRIS applications. The results also showed that the extent of HRIS applications being practiced were found varied among business organizations based on their type of business and length of time in business. However, there were not found varied due to their size of business. Keywords: HRIS applications, HRIS practice, Business organizations, Jorda

CLINICAL AND TYMPANOMETRIC ASSESSMENT OF MIDDLE EAR EFFUSION VERSUS MYRINGOTOMY FINDING

Background: The present study was planned to show the accuracy of clinical examination and tympanometry in diagnosis of middle ear effusion. Patients and Methods: The study involved 80 patients (160 ears )suspected to have otitis media with effusion (OME) from different age groups ; 56 were males and 24 were females . Clinical assessment for all patients included otoscopy , pneumatic otoscopy and audiological assessment by using pure tone audiometry and tympanometry then comparing the results to findings at myringotomy as the gold standard for presence or absence of fluid in the middle ear. Results : Fluid whether serous or glue was found in 100 ears ( 62.5 %) where as sixty ears were dry, sensitivity , specificity and accuracy of tympanometry were 90 % , 70 % and 85 % respectively , and for clinical assessment were 82 % , 52% and 71 % respectively . A combined clinical and tympanometry sensitivity and specificity were calculated and found to be 96 % and 92 % respectively. Conclusion : clinical examination as a method for diagnosis of middle ear effusion depend on experience of the examiner . tympanometry proved to be a reliable diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of OME , it appeared significantly better at determining non effusion state

The entrepreneurial shift in education: The critical success factors of mobile learning in higher education institutions

    Get PDF
The objective of this investigation is to analyze the correlation among students' readiness for mobile learning, regulation of emotions, nomophobia, cyberloafing via smartphones, and addiction to smartphones while attending classes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Current research introduces a theoretical framework that outlines the factors influencing cyberloafing within the m-learning setting. The study involved a total of 719 participants. The structural equation modelling technique was utilized to evaluate a study's framework. The study's results suggest a significant association between the factors of m-learning readiness, emotion regulation, nomophobia, smartphone cyberloafing, and smartphone addiction among learners. The current study also introduces a conceptual framework for this entrepreneurial shift that outlines the factors influencing cyberloafing within the m-learning setting. The discourse pertains to the ramifications for both students and institutions of higher learning

SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility and COVID-19 disease severity are associated with genetic variants affecting gene expression in a variety of tissues

Variability in SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility and COVID-19 disease severity between individuals is partly due to genetic factors. Here, we identify 4 genomic loci with suggestive associations for SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility and 19 for COVID-19 disease severity. Four of these 23 loci likely have an ethnicity-specific component. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) signals in 11 loci colocalize with expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) associated with the expression of 20 genes in 62 tissues/cell types (range: 1:43 tissues/gene), including lung, brain, heart, muscle, and skin as well as the digestive system and immune system. We perform genetic fine mapping to compute 99% credible SNP sets, which identify 10 GWAS loci that have eight or fewer SNPs in the credible set, including three loci with one single likely causal SNP. Our study suggests that the diverse symptoms and disease severity of COVID-19 observed between individuals is associated with variants across the genome, affecting gene expression levels in a wide variety of tissue types

The study aimed to reveal the importance of the quality of services in hotels and assess the extent of customer satisfaction with the services provided to them, and try to reach some of the suggestions and recommendations that have helped enrich the Subject of the study. The importance of the study of the importance of service quality and operational productivity by revenue for hotels where the study population of customers from five-star hotels in the capital Amman. The most important findings of the study that the evaluations customers of the quality of services to hotels in Amman were negative. Study recommended the need to work to increase the interest level of services, especially food and beverage services provided by hotels from five-star hotels because the evaluation of customers for these services was negative, And the necessity of adopting departments Supreme program the application of total quality management through moral and material support technician key words: Service quality, Customer Satisfaction, Hotels, Jorda
