11th Congress of the European-Association-of-Neuro-Oncology -- OCT 09-12, 2014 -- Turin, ITALYWOS: 000344235700014The aim of this study is to evaluate the reliability of MRI fusion when determining intracranial target volume when performing CT based intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery. Patients treated with CT based intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery with various diagnosis are included in the study. All patients were immobilized using stereotactic thermoplastic masks prior to simulation. The planning CT was obtained both with and without iv contrast with 1mm slice thickness. The images obtained were then fused with 3D, T1 weighted MR images with contrast by two different platforms (Eclipse 10.0, Velocity 3.0 rigid and Velocity 3.0 deformable).European Association of Neuro-Oncolog

WOS: 000467786304100The combination of Adaptive Radiotherapy (ART) and VMAT allows to create more conformal plans for patients with bladder cancer without risk of missing target during changes of bladder volume and shape. Relative position of small bowel is influenced by the volume of treated bladder. Recent reviews demonstrated the advantages of using ART in bowel sparing during bladder irradiation. The aim of this study was to assess feasibility of simultaneous sparing of bone marrow, small bowel and rectum using combination of ART and VMAT

WOS: 000463117902107The aim of this study was to compare the volumes obtained with surgical clips during breast conserving surgery of breast cancer patients with volume determined using FDG positive tumor volumes outlined in pre -operative PET-CT imaging and find out the deviations that arise

Enhancement of cisplatin sensitivity in human cervical cancer: Epigallocatechin-3-gallate

Cisplatin is one of the effective chemotherapeutics in the treatment of several types of cancers. However, in addition to the efforts against to its toxicity, the amelioration of cisplatin sensitivity is an important point in treatment of cervical cancer. To do so, additional substances such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a polyphenol in green tea, have been used in combination with chemotherapeutics. We aimed to investigate the possible molecular pathways to potentiate cervical cancer cell (HeLa) growth inhibition by combination therapy of cisplatin and EGCG. HeLa cells were treated with EGCG (25µM), cisplatin (250 nM), and their combination for 24 h. Cell viability was determined by MTS Assay. We analyzed the expressions of NF-κB p65, COX-2, Nrf2, HO-1, p-mTOR, p-p70S6K1, p-4E-BP1, and p-Akt byWestern blot analysis. Herein, we have demonstrated that EGCG works synergistic with cisplatin in inhibiting growth of cervical cancer cells. EGCG improved efficacy of cisplatin treatment in HeLa cells by regulating NFκB p65, COX-2, p-Akt, and p-mTOR pathways, whereas it increased the expression levels of Nrf2/HO-1 in combined therapy. Our observations revealed that EGCG increases the sensitization of cisplatin to cervical cancer cells by inhibiting cell survival and inducing apoptosis

The Second Look after Fights: Why Wounds Might Not Only Be Superficial

Introduction. We present a case of intraosseous foreign body penetration due to knife attack and its emergency service management. Case. Seventeen-year-old patient was admitted to the emergency department with a knife cut over the right knee. In the local wound exploration during the extension position of the knee, deep tissue penetration was not observed. Therefore, the patient was discharged after a primary wound saturation without any radiographic evaluation. During the second admission, the detailed anamnesis revealed that the injury occurred while the knee was in the flexion and the radiographic examination displayed a broken knifepoint in the sagittal plane of the femur’s medial patellar region penetrated in the intraosseous tissue. Conclusion. Intraosseous foreign body cases due to the knife attacks are quite rare. There is no algorithm, indicating the necessity of radiographic examination in the stab wounds. Local wound exploration of stab wounds should be done in accordance with the mechanism of injury

Papillary Carcinoma Arising in Struma Ovarii

Struma ovarii, which is classified as benign or malignant, is a mature ovarian teratoma consisting mainly of the thyroid tissue. Here, we present the case of malign struma ovarii in a patient with right adnexal mass. In a 53-year-old female, who was referred to our hospital with pelvic pain, abdominopelvic imaging revealed a cystic lesion measuring 15x14 cm in diameter in the right adnexa. Total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were performed. Microscopic evaluation revealed a 1.5x1x0.5 cm papillary carcinoma focus in frozen sections of the mural nodule which was observed inside the cyst. Following the surgical procedure, the patient’s TSH levels were kept low by thyroxine treatment, and it was decided to follow the patient by annual measurement of thyroglobulin levels and pelvic imaging. There is not a common consensus on optimal treatment of malignant struma ovarii. Treatment options depend on cases or case series. Turk Jem 2015; 19: 112-11
