Literature in medical teaching : the crucial importance of literature in the education of medical students

Recent years have seen an increase in the interest for the use of literature in the medical context with different objectives. First of all, its use as a pedagogical tool for medicine students made it possible to improve necessary professional competencies that were difficult to achieve with traditional biologist education. Secondly, patients? accounts have become very interesting to understand how they live their disease. Finally, the usefulness of literary works as an enhancing tool in order to improve the quality of life of patients is starting to be recognised. In conclusion, literature constitutes an element with great formative interest that can improve the relationship with patients because it allows a better understanding of their disease

Effect of Islands in Diffusive Properties of the Standard Map for Large Parameter Values

In this paper we review, based on massive, long-term, numerical simulations, the effect of islands on the statistical properties of the standard map for large parameter values. Different sources of discrepancy with respect to typical diffusion are identified, and their individual roles are compared and explained in terms of available limit models

From the Hénon conservative map to the Chirikov standard map for large parameter values

In this paper we consider conservative quadratic Hénon maps and Chirikov's standard map, and relate them in some sense. First, we present a study of some dynamical properties of orientation-preserving and orientation-reversing quadratic Hénon maps concerning the stability region, the size of the chaotic zones, its evolution with respect to parameters and the splitting of the separatrices of fixed and periodic points plus its role in the preceding aspects. Then the phase space of the standard map, for large values of the parameter $k$, is studied. There are some stable orbits which appear periodically in $k$ and are scaled somehow. Using this scaling, we show that the dynamics around these stable orbits is one of the above Hénon maps plus some small error, which tends to vanish as $k \rightarrow \infty$. Elementary considerations about diffusion properties of the standard map are also presented

La relació entre el consum de cànnabis i els episodis psicòtics

Una pràctica molt estesa entre les persones que pateixen un primer episodi psicòtic és el consum de substàncies estupefaents. Aquesta tesi doctoral ha estudiat l'efecte que el consum de cànnabis té sobre el curs de diferents aspectes de la malaltia. Els resultats indiquen que, tot i que els subjectes consumidors presenten inicialment un grau de severitat superior a l'observada en subjectes no consumidors en algunes dimensions de la malaltia, la seva evolució és més positiva, almenys en relació a alguns aspectes de la simptomatologia psicòtica i a la consciència de malaltia.Una práctica muy extendida entre las personas que padecen un primer episodio psicótico es el consumo de sustancias estupefacientes. Esta tesis doctoral ha estudiado el efecto que el consumo de cannabis tiene sobre el curso de diferentes aspectos de la enfermedad. Los resultados indican que, aunque los sujetos consumidores presentan inicialmente un grado de severidad superior a la observada en sujetos no consumidores en algunas dimensiones de la enfermedad, su evolución es más positiva, al menos en relación a algunos aspectos de la sintomatología psicótica y a la consciencia de enfermedad

L’Aràbia del Prometeu Encandenat i de les Bacants

Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2015-2016, Tutora: Montserrat Camps Gaset[cat] En el nostre treball analitzem i contextualitzem el vers 420 del Prometeu encadenat i tot l'estàsim al qual s'insereix i el pròleg de les Bacants d'Eurípides per tal d'escatir per què ambdues obres parlen d'Aràbia i quin sentit tenen aquestes mencions, atès que des de l'antigor s'és conscient de llur escassa exactitud geogràfica. Sobre el primer text, discutim si està relacionada amb el país de les aromes herodoteu o més aviat amb certs topònims de la Còlquida i el déu Ares; pel que fa al segon, la pertinença del terme 'Ἀραβία εὐδαίμων' al text i la seva ulterior evolució fins a designar el Iemen. Finalment determinem si ambdues Aràbies fan referència a una mateixa realitat, com es relacionen entre elles, què evocaven a la ment d'un grec al segle V aC i com podria continuar la nostra investigació més enllà d’aquest treball, indicant quins interrogants queden oberts i com es podrien resoldre.[eng] In our project we analyze and contextualize the verse 420 from Prometheus Vinctus, all its stasimon and the prologue of Euripides' Baccahe in order to find out why both works refer to Arabia and what mean these mentions mean, as they are not seen as geographically accurate since ancient times. Relating to the first text, we discuss if this Arabia is somehow related to the Herodotean country of aromatics or rather to some Colchians toponyms and the war-god Ares. When it comes to the second, we follow the meaning of the term 'Ἀραβία εὐδαίμων' along its history until it designates Yemen. Finally we determine if both Arabias refer to the same reality, how they relate to each other, what they brought to Greeks' mind in Vth century BC and how our research can be followed, pointing out what questions remain unsolved and how could be answered

Accelerator modes and anomalous diffusion in 3D volume-preserving maps

Angle-action maps that have a periodicity in the action direction can have accelerator modes: orbits that are periodic when projected onto the torus, but that lift to unbounded orbits in an action variable. In this paper we construct a family of volume-preserving maps, with two angles and one action, that have accelerator modes created at Hopf-one (or saddle-center-Hopf) bifurcations. Near such a bifurcation we show that there is often a bubble of invariant tori. Computations of chaotic orbits near such a bubble show that the trapping times have an algebraic decay similar to that seen around stability islands in area-preserving maps. As in the 2D case, this gives rise to anomalous diffusive properties of the action in our 3D map

Análisis de las propuestas de los actores sociales en la recuperación ambiental de la Bahía de Portmán (Región de Murcia). Nuevas perspectivas para un desarrollo sostenible

La bahía de Portmán representa uno de los casos de contaminación más importantes en el Mediterráneo. En este trabajo se analizan las posiciones de los diferentes actores sociales, así como las principales fortalezas-debilidades y oportunidades-amenazas que existen en las posibilidades de un planteamiento estratégico de regeneración de la bahía y de la Sierra Minera. Desde una perspectiva socio-ecológica, los análisis realizados ponen de manifiesto las potencialidades para el desarrollo de un turismo ambiental y cultural de este entorno. Sin embargo, las propias debilidades y amenazas podrían superar esas potencialidades si no se lleva a cabo una gestión cuidadosa y una apuesta clara por un modelo de desarrollo sensible en extremo con el patrimonio natural, paisajístico y cultural. Un modelo de turismo ligado a la restauración ambiental y al consenso con los agentes sociales locales debe constituir un elemento básico para la adaptación del territorio como producto turístico, y así debe reflejarse en las futuras decisiones
