    On the Equivalence of Quadratic APN Functions

    Establishing the CCZ-equivalence of a pair of APN functions is generally quite difficult. In some cases, when seeking to show that a putative new infinite family of APN functions is CCZ inequivalent to an already known family, we rely on computer calculation for small values of n. In this paper we present a method to prove the inequivalence of quadratic APN functions with the Gold functions. Our main result is that a quadratic function is CCZ-equivalent to an APN Gold function if and only if it is EA-equivalent to that Gold function. As an application of this result, we prove that a trinomial family of APN functions that exist on finite fields of order 2^n where n = 2 mod 4 are CCZ inequivalent to the Gold functions. The proof relies on some knowledge of the automorphism group of a code associated with such a function.Comment: 13 p

    There is growing interest in economic uncertainty and its long run impact on investment. In previous work the authors established clear evidence of the negative impact of exchange rate uncertainty on investment in the G7, measured using a GARCH approach, and Pooled Mean Group Panel Estimation. In this paper we assess the impact on investment of temporary and permanent components of exchange rate uncertainty derived using a components GARCH model.     Experimental determination of the particle motions associated with the low order acoustic modes in enclosures

    A procedure for experimentally determining, in terms of the particle motions, the shapes of the low order acoustic modes in enclosures is described. The procedure is based on finding differentiable functions which approximate the shape functions of the low order acoustic modes when these modes are defined in terms of the acoustic pressure. The differentiable approximating functions are formed from polynomials which are fitted by a least squares procedure to experimentally determined values which define the shapes of the low order acoustic modes in terms of the acoustic pressure. These experimentally determined values are found by a conventional technique in which the transfer functions, which relate the acoustic pressures at an array of points in the enclosure to the volume velocity of a fixed point source, are measured. The gradient of the function which approximates the shape of a particular mode in terms of the acoustic pressure is evaluated to give the mode shape in terms of the particle motion. The procedure was tested by using it to experimentally determine the shapes of the low order acoustic modes in a small rectangular enclosure

This system is an exten-sion of the system we developed as part of our participation in TRECVID 2007 [1]. In TRECVID 2007 we created two interfaces, known as the ‘Shot’ based and ‘Broadcast’ based interfaces.     Uncertainty Modeling for AUV Acquired Bathymetry

    Abstract Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are used across a wide range of mission scenarios and from an increasingly diverse set of operators. Use of AUVs for shallow water (less than 200 meters) mapping applications is of increasing interest. However, an update of the total propagated uncertainty TPU model is required to properly attribute bathymetry data acquired from an AUV platform compared with surface platform acquired data. An overview of the parameters that should be considered for data acquired from an AUV platform is discussed. Data acquired in August 2014 using NOAA’s Remote Environmental Measuring UnitS (REMUS) 600 AUV in the vicinity of Portsmouth, NH were processed and analyzed through Leidos’ Survey Analysis and Area Based EditoR (SABER) software. Variability in depth and position of seafloor features observed multiple times from repeat passes of the AUV, and junctioning of the AUV acquired bathymetry with bathymetry acquired from a surface platform are used to evaluate the TPU model and to characterize the AUV acquired data
