Using quantum state protection via dissipation in a quantum-dot molecule to solve the Deutsch problem

The wide set of control parameters and reduced size scale make semiconductor quantum dots attractive candidates to implement solid-state quantum computation. Considering an asymmetric double quantum dot coupled by tunneling, we combine the action of a laser field and the spontaneous emission of the excitonic state to protect an arbitrary superposition state of the indirect exciton and ground state. As a by-product we show how to use the protected state to solve the Deutsch problem.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, 2 table

Comparative electron temperature measurements of Thomson scattering and electron cyclotron emission diagnostics in TCABR plasmas

    Get PDF
We present the first simultaneous measurements of the Thomson scattering and electron cyclotron emission radiometer diagnostics performed at TCABR tokamak with Alfven wave heating. The Thomson scattering diagnostic is an upgraded version of the one previously installed at the ISTTOK tokamak, while the electron cyclotron emission radiometer employs a heterodyne sweeping radiometer. For purely Ohmic discharges, the electron temperature measurements from both diagnostics are in good agreement. Additional Alfven wave heating does not affect the capability of the Thomson scattering diagnostic to measure the instantaneous electron temperature, whereas measurements from the electron cyclotron emission radiometer become underestimates of the actual temperature values. Compression and bending behavior of steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete

    Get PDF
A method to design cost competitive steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFRSCC) for precasting industrial applications is described in this paper. Since demolding the elements as soon as possible is an important requirement in this industry, the influence of the age on the resistance and toughness of the designed SFRSCC was assessed carrying out an experimental program. Based on the force-deflection relationship obtained in the three point bending notched beam tests performed according to the RILEM TC 162-TDF recommendations, the stress-crack opening relationship of the SFRSCC was determined. The influence of the SFRSCC age on the fracture parameters of this material was analyzed.

DETERMINATION OF WEIBULL PARAMETERS FOR WIND APPLICATIONS IN TWO DIFFERENT REGIONS

    Get PDF
In this work, the main objective is to determine the shape (k) and scale (c) parameters of the Weibull probability density function through four numerical methods, known as graphical method (GM), empirical method of Justus (EMJ), empirical method of Lysen (EML), and moment method (MM) in two distinct cities, Gravatá-PE and Osório-RS, under the influence of two wind regimes. To do that, it will be used the hourly wind data obtained through NASA's Meteonorm database, from 2006 to 2015. Statistical analyzes also will be used to determine the best method used to determine these parameters

Projecting future climate change-mediated impacts in Three Paralytic Shellfish Toxins-Producing dinoflagellate species

Simple Summary Harmful algal blooms present a particular risk for marine ecosystems and human health alike. In this sense, it is important to accurately predict how toxin-producing microalgae could be affected by future climate change. The present study applied species distribution models (SDMs) to project the potential changes in the habitat suitability and distribution of three key paralytic shellfish toxin (PST)-producing dinoflagellate species (i.e., Alexandrium catenella, A. minutum, and Gymnodinium catenatum), up to 2040/50 and 2090/2100, across four different greenhouse gas emission scenarios, and using four abiotic predictors (i.e., sea surface temperature, salinity, current velocity, and bathymetry). In general, considerable contractions were observed for all three species in the lower latitudes of their distribution, together with projected expansions into higher latitudes, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere. This study aims to entice further research on the future biogeographical impacts of climate change in toxin-producing microalgae species while, at the same time, helping to advise the correct environmental management of coastal habitats and ecosystems. Toxin-producing microalgae present a significant environmental risk for ecosystems and human societies when they reach concentrations that affect other aquatic organisms or human health. Harmful algal blooms (HAB) have been linked to mass wildlife die-offs and human food poisoning episodes, and climate change has the potential to alter the frequency, magnitude, and geographical extent of such events. Thus, a framework of species distribution models (SDMs), employing MaxEnt modeling, was used to project changes in habitat suitability and distribution of three key paralytic shellfish toxin (PST)-producing dinoflagellate species (i.e., Alexandrium catenella, A. minutum, and Gymnodinium catenatum), up to 2050 and 2100, across four representative concentration pathway scenarios (RCP-2.6, 4.5, 6.0, and 8.5; CMIP5). Despite slightly different responses at the regional level, the global habitat suitability has decreased for all the species, leading to an overall contraction in their tropical and sub-tropical ranges, while considerable expansions are projected in higher latitudes, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere, suggesting poleward distributional shifts. Such trends were exacerbated with increasing RCP severity. Yet, further research is required, with a greater assemblage of environmental predictors and improved occurrence datasets, to gain a more holistic understanding of the potential impacts of climate change on PST-producing species.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

[Net requirement of protein and energy of Santa Inês ewe in lactation]. Abstract: This study aimed to obtain the protein and liquid energy requirements from lactating ewes under two nutritional managements during pregnancy and under two types of pregnancy. Experimental tests were conducted at the Animal Metabolism and Calorimetry Laboratory on Department of Animal Science from Veterinary School of UFMG. For the experimental testing, were used 28 Santa Ines sheeps in a completely randomized design under 2 x 2 factorial arrangement, considering two pregnancy types (single and double) and two nutritional managements (with and without restriction). Sheeps were placed on the platform and contained for milking. To analyse data regarding milking weeks it was used the model of repeated measures in time. The experimental groups were evaluated using the SNK test at 5% significance level. (1) Diets were compound of corn meal (Zea mays), soybean meal (Glycine max), chopped Tifton grass hay (Cynodon spp.) and limestone. Sheep?s specific mineralsupplement was offered ad libitum to the animals Milk production was not affected by nutritional management, as the amount of fat, protein and, energy from milk. The same results were observed to energy and protein requirements. This fact shows that the nutritional management, per se, was not able to change the variables studied. The double pregnancy produced more milk, fat and protein in milk increasing its energy value. Energy and protein requirements were higher in ewes with double pregnancy. Milk production, energy and protein requirements were higher until the tenth week of lactation. Energy and protein nutritional requirement followed the milk production curve
