    Study On Effect of Boron Carbide, Aluminium Oxide and Graphite On Dry Sliding Wear Behaviour of Aluminium Based Metal Matrix Composite at Different Temperature

    The present research has been conducted to study the impact of boron carbide (B4C), aluminium oxide(Al2O3) and graphite on Aluminium 2219 (Al2219). According to current research, B4C and graphite material be a good substitute for Al2219.Reinforced composites and unreinforced Al2219 prepared by a stir casting process. A scanning electron microscope was used to analyze the reinforcement and distribution in the matrix and worn surface of the specimen. Exceptional wear resistance (30%) exhibited by  B4C and graphite-reinforced hybrid composite at 150 ºC in contrast with the unreinforced Al2219. The B4C and Gr reinforcement particulate existence improves the strengthening kinetics in the matrix phase at 150 °C. The artificial neural network used to get the test significance, normalized factor importance and absolute relative error of less than 1%

    New developments in fluorophores as well as in detection methods have fueled the rapid growth of optical imaging in the life sciences. Commercial widefield microscopes generally use arc lamps, excitation/emission filters and shutters for fluorescence imaging. These components can be expensive, difficult to maintain and preclude stable illumination. Here, we describe methods to construct inexpensive and easy-to-use light sources for optical microscopy using light-emitting diodes (LEDs). We also provide examples of its applicability to biological fluorescence imaging

    Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and mannan-binding lectin (MBL): On constant alert in a hostile environment

    In the beginning were neither B cells nor T cells nor antibodies, but innate immune defense alone. The primary functional theme of innate immunity is the distinction between self and non-self, which is maintained by a vast number of cellular and subcellular components. In this context, the immense importance of the Toll-like receptors (TLRs) is well established. Positive (Darwinian) selection seems to be acting on the ligand-binding domains of these molecules, suggesting a selection pattern similar to that previously observed in the MHC proteins. In sharp contrast to TLRs, the biological significance of mannan-binding lectin (MBL) is controversial, and, concerning humans, it has been suggested that low concentration of MBL in serum represents a selective advantage. In this mini-review, based on a doctoral thesis, evolutionary aspects of TLRs and MBL are discussed

    Advances in Social Media Research:Past, Present and Future

    Social media comprises communication websites that facilitate relationship forming between users from diverse backgrounds, resulting in a rich social structure. User generated content encourages inquiry and decision-making. Given the relevance of social media to various stakeholders, it has received significant attention from researchers of various fields, including information systems. There exists no comprehensive review that integrates and synthesises the findings of literature on social media. This study discusses the findings of 132 papers (in selected IS journals) on social media and social networking published between 1997 and 2017. Most papers reviewed here examine the behavioural side of social media, investigate the aspect of reviews and recommendations, and study its integration for organizational purposes. Furthermore, many studies have investigated the viability of online communities/social media as a marketing medium, while others have explored various aspects of social media, including the risks associated with its use, the value that it creates, and the negative stigma attached to it within workplaces. The use of social media for information sharing during critical events as well as for seeking and/or rendering help has also been investigated in prior research. Other contexts include political and public administration, and the comparison between traditional and social media. Overall, our study identifies multiple emergent themes in the existing corpus, thereby furthering our understanding of advances in social media research. The integrated view of the extant literature that our study presents can help avoid duplication by future researchers, whilst offering fruitful lines of enquiry to help shape research for this emerging field

    Impact of EV Charger Load on Distribution Network Capacity: A Case Study in Toronto

    This paper presents a study of the impact of the electric vehicle (EV) charger load on the capacity of distribution feeders and transformers of an urban utility. A residential neighborhood of the city of Toronto, Canada, is selected to perform the study based on survey results that showed a high tendency for EV adoption. The two most loaded distribution transformers of such a neighborhood are studied along with their cable feeders via steady-state simulations in CYME software. A worst case scenario of full EV penetration is studied, where all chargers are connected to the system simultaneously at the peak summer or winter load. The effect of increasing the rate of EV adoption on the performance of distribution networks is examined with correlation to the ambient temperature. Finally, the impact of increasing the charger size on system performance is explored. The results send a few warning signals of potential equipment overload to utility companies under certain system loading and EV charging levels as EV use grows, impacting utility future planning and operation. This will assist utilities in taking appropriate measures with respect to operating the existing system and also planning for the future
