Thermal and Magnetic Quantum Discord in Heisenberg models

We investigate how the quantum correlations (quantum discord) of a two-qubit one dimensional XYZ Heisenberg chain in thermal equilibrium depends on the temperature (T) of the bath and also on an external magnetic field B. We show that the behavior of the thermal quantum discord (QD) differs in many unexpected ways from the thermal entanglement. For example, we show situations where QD increases with T when entanglement decreases, cases where QD increases with T even in regions with zero entanglement, and that QD signals a quantum phase transition even at finite T. We also show that by properly tuning B or the interaction between the qubits we get non-zero QD for any T and we present a new effect not seen for entanglement, the regrowth of thermal QD.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, RevTex, double column; v2: published versio

«Esta nación nuestra vive entre el dolor y el sufrimiento, en medio de un paraíso natural. Llevamos ya varios años, lustros, tratando de darnos una explicación que nos ayude a comprender por qué somos así, para tratar de cambiar nuestros comportamientosde tal forma que todos podamos vivir dignamente como sereshumanos. Entre las diversas explicaciones que se han dado acerca de la época de dificultades que nos ha tocado vivir alos colombianos en los últimos decenios, les concedo una mayor pertinencia a aquellas que argumentan que la nuestra es una crisis generada en buena parte, por un proceso de modernizaciónacelerado, que ha transformado de manera radical las rganizaciones sociales, los sistemas económicos, las instituciones políticas y ante todo los referentes culturales que orientan los comportamientos de los ciudadanos.

Bell scenarios in which nonlocality and entanglement are inversely related

We show that for two-qubit chained Bell inequalities with an arbitrary number of measurement settings, nonlocality and entanglement are not only different properties but are inversely related. Specifically, we analytically prove that in absence of noise, robustness of nonlocality, defined as the maximum fraction of detection events that can be lost such that the remaining ones still do not admit a local model, and concurrence are inversely related for any chained Bell inequality with an arbitrary number of settings. The closer quantum states are to product states, the harder it is to reproduce quantum correlations with local models. We also show that, in presence of noise, nonlocality and entanglement are simultaneously maximized only when the noise level is equal to the maximum level tolerated by the inequality; in any other case, a more nonlocal state is always obtained by reducing the entanglement. In addition, we observed that robustness of nonlocality and concurrence are also inversely related for the Bell scenarios defined by the tight two-qubit three-setting $I_{3322}$ inequality, and the tight two-qutrit inequality $I_3$.Comment: 9 page

Operational Classification and Quantification of Multipartite Entangled States

We formalize and extend an operational multipartite entanglement measure introduced by T. R. Oliveira, G. Rigolin, and M. C. de Oliveira, Phys. Rev. A 73, 010305(R) (2006), through the generalization of global entanglement (GE) [D. A. Meyer and N. R. Wallach, J. Math. Phys. 43, 4273 (2002)]. Contrarily to GE the main feature of this measure lies in the fact that we study the mean linear entropy of all possible partitions of a multipartite system. This allows the construction of an operational multipartite entanglement measure which is able to distinguish among different multipartite entangled states that GE failed to discriminate. Furthermore, it is also maximum at the critical point of the Ising chain in a transverse magnetic field, being thus able to detect a quantum phase transition.Comment: 14 pages, RevTex4, published versio
