    This study applies Situation Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) to the crisis responses of independent college and state flagship universities to determine what strategies most effectively reach campus audiences and influence their COVID-19 attentiveness. This study mainly looks at one institution within each of the previously mentioned categories and compares their general messages regarding COVID-19, how it fits with SCCT, and if any other methods within the SCCT could have been more effective. A subsection within this paper includes looking at public commentaries made by audiences associated with the institutions of study (i.e., parents, alumni, and students) and evaluating their comments using a sentiment analysis to gauge public opinion as positive, negative, or neutral regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings show that the small independent institution communicated less frequently than the state-flagship universities but utilized more methods of communication under the SCCT when communicating with its publics

    The Relationship Between Internal Encoding Style and Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms in a Subclinical Sample

    This study examined the relationships between obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCs) and encoding style in a subclinical sample, by using a questionnaire that evaluates the extent to which preexisting schemata (versus cues from the outside world) affect encoding processes (Lewicki, 2005). Research on encoding style has revealed on one hand the existence of individual differences in the tendency to impose interpretive schemata in the process of encoding, and on the other hand the fact that an extremely internal mode of encoding has been found to be related to an increased propensity to self-perpetuate preexisting schemata. Furthermore, internal encoding may contribute to the development of psychopathological symptoms, through the self-perpetuation of dysfunctional schemata. The results confirmed that OCs are connected with an internal encoding style; specific relationships between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) dimensions and internal encoding style were also found. These results are discussed in terms of the role of encoding style in the perpetuation of OCs, and its relationship to the dysfunctional beliefs characterising OC

    Local Electronic and Magnetic Studies of an Artificial La2FeCrO6 Double Perovskite

    Full text link
    Through the utilization of element-resolved polarized x-ray probes, the electronic and magnetic state of an artificial La2FeCrO6 double perovskite were explored. Applying unit-cell level control of thin film growth on SrTiO3 (111), the rock salt double perovskite structure can be created for this system, which does not have an ordered perovskite phase in the bulk. We find that the Fe and Cr are in the proper 3+ valence state, but, contrary to previous studies, the element-resolved magnetic studies find the moments in field are small and show no evidence of a sizable magnetic moment in the remanent state.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figure

    summary:This paper is devoted to the study of some nonlinear degenerated elliptic equations, whose prototype is given by \begin{aligned}t 2&-{\rm div}( b(|u|)|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u) + d(|u|)|\nabla u|^{p} = f - {\rm div}(c(x)|u|^{\alpha }) &\quad &\mbox {in}\ \Omega ,\\ & u = 0 &\quad &\mbox {on}\ \partial \Omega , \end{aligned}t where Ω\Omega is a bounded open set of RN\mathbb {R}^N (N2N\geq 2) with 1<p<N1<p<N and fL1(Ω),f \in L^{1}(\Omega ), under some growth conditions on the function b()b(\cdot ) and d(),d(\cdot ), where c()c(\cdot ) is assumed to be in LN(p1)(Ω).L^{\frac {N}{(p-1)}}(\Omega ). We show the existence of renormalized solutions for this non-coercive elliptic equation, also, some regularity results will be concluded

    This paper deals with hydro-mechanical investigation of salinegypsum soil properties from Sebkha of Oran in respect withtheir impact on the feasibility of the project of the second runwayof the Es-Sénia airport in Oran (Algeria). The geologicaland in-situ geotechnical studies prior to the construction phaseof the airport runway revealed underground cavities supposedto be created from salts and gypsum dissolution in the Sebkhasoil. Standard laboratory experiments are used to determinepermeability coefficient, isotherm curve, shear resistance andelastic parameters of two soils. These ones are affected by thevariation of water table level that varies according to the dryperiod (summer) or the rainy period (winter), creating cyclichydric conditions. The paper presents a comparison of parametersof these two soils in saturated and partially saturatedconditions. The results of tests performed in laboratory arecompared with those performed in situ in order to check theirrepresentativeness before a detailed comparison of the effect ofwater conditions. The two soils have similar behavior highlysensible to water with some particularities

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Anyone working in the hospital may become a victim of violence. The effects of violence can range in intensity and include the following: minor physical injuries, serious physical injuries, temporary or permanent physical disability, psychological trauma, and death. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of exposure, characteristics, and psychological impact of violence toward hospital-based emergency physicians in Morocco.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>This was a survey including emergency physicians who ensured emergency service during the last fortnight. The variables studied were those related to the victim (age and gender), and those related to aggression: assaulter gender, number, time, reason (delay of consultation and/or care, acute drunkenness, neuropsychiatric disease), and type (verbal abuse, verbal threat and/or physical assault). After the questionnaire was completed, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) of Spielberg was applied to all participants.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A total of 60 physicians have achieved permanence in emergency department during the 15 days preceding the questionnaire response. The mean age was 24 ± 1 year and 57% were male. A total of 42 (70%) had been exposed to violence. The violence occurred at night n = 16 (27%), afternoon n = 13 (22%), evening n = 7 (12%) and morning n = 6 (10%). Reasons for violence were: the delay of consultation or care in n = 31 (52%) cases, acute drunkenness in n = 10 (17%) cases and neuropsychiatric disease in n = 3 (5%) cases. Twenty eight (47%) participants stated that they experienced verbal abuse, n = 18 (30%) verbal threat and n = 5 (8.3%) physical assault. Exposure to some form of violence was related to a higher median [interquartile range, IQR] state anxiety point (SAP); (51 [46-59] vs 39 [34-46]; <it>P </it>< 0,001), and trait anxiety point (TAP) (48 [41-55] vs 40,5 [38-53]; <it>P </it>= 0,01).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This study revealed a high prevalence (70%) of violence toward doctors in Morocco emergency departments. The exposure of physicians to some form of violence is greater among doctors with anxiety trait and was related to significant degree of anxiety state.</p

    Investigation on the thermal degradation and kinetic parameters of innovative insulation materials using TGA-MS

    Get PDF
    Thermogravimetric analyzer coupled to a mass spectrometer (TGA-MS) was used to study the thermochemical behavior of eight samples. Two varieties of straw (wheat and barley) and two others of binder (lime and plaster) have employed to design four composites. These composites can be considered as innovative insulation materials for buildings. The thermal degradation of the different specimens was studied from a temperature of 50 to 1000ºC using increased temperature of 20ºC/min. This thermal degradation is an important element to evaluate the fire behavior and predict the evolution of smoke emitted during an accidental fire for building application. Using MS analyzer, the ion currents evolutions of 16 molecule groups (shared by a m/z ratio) were followed as functions of temperature. TG curves show that the thermal decomposition of composite samples is more complex (3-4 mass loss steps) than the one of the basic materials (1-2 mass loss stages) and seems to be mostly affected by the binder nature. The highest amount of gas in pyrolysis products is associated to m/z=28 ratio and presents more than two thirds of the total quantity. The kinetic parameters were evaluated for the more important mass loss of each sample and their values are in the ranges of 8.29-64.86 kJ/mol, 0.4-3.36 and 1.78 x 10^3 -1.63 x 10^7 min^-1 for respectively the activation energy, the reaction order and the pre-exponential factor.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
