Splittings of generalized Baumslag-Solitar groups
We study the structure of generalized Baumslag-Solitar groups from the point
of view of their (usually non-unique) splittings as fundamental groups of
graphs of infinite cyclic groups. We find and characterize certain
decompositions of smallest complexity (`fully reduced' decompositions) and give
a simplified proof of the existence of deformations. We also prove a finiteness
theorem and solve the isomorphism problem for generalized Baumslag-Solitar

Discrimination between two mechanisms of surface-scattering in a single-mode waveguide
Transport properties of a single-mode waveguide with rough boundary are
studied by discrimination between two mechanisms of surface scattering, the
amplitude and square-gradient ones. Although these mechanisms are generically
mixed, we show that for some profiles they can separately operate within
non-overlapping intervals of wave numbers of scattering waves. This effect may
be important in realistic situations due to inevitable long-range correlations

Heavy-quark axial charges to non-leading order
We combine Witten's renormalization group with the matching conditions of
Bernreuther and Wetzel to calculate at next-to-leading order the complete
heavy-quark contribution to the neutral-current axial-charge measurable in
neutrino-proton elastic scattering. Our results are manifestly renormalization

Probing Hadronization with Strangeness
The Omega-bar/Omega ratio originating from string decays is predicted to be
larger than unity in proton-proton interaction at SPS energies. The anti-omega
dominance increases with decreasing beam energy. This surprising behavior is
caused by the combinatorics of quark-antiquark production in small and low-mass
strings. Since this behavior is not found in a statistical description of
hadron production in proton-proton collisions, it may serve as a key observable

Possible Resolutions of the D-Paradox
We propose possible ways of explaining the net charge event-by-event
fluctuations in Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider within
a quark recombination model. We discuss various methods of estimating the
number of quarks at recombination and their implications for the predicted net
charge fluctuations. We also discuss the possibility of diquark and
quark-antiquark clustering above the deconfinement temperature.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
