Elements of Design for Containers and Solutions in the LinBox Library

    Get PDF
We describe in this paper new design techniques used in the \cpp exact linear algebra library \linbox, intended to make the library safer and easier to use, while keeping it generic and efficient. First, we review the new simplified structure for containers, based on our \emph{founding scope allocation} model. We explain design choices and their impact on coding: unification of our matrix classes, clearer model for matrices and submatrices, \etc Then we present a variation of the \emph{strategy} design pattern that is comprised of a controller--plugin system: the controller (solution) chooses among plug-ins (algorithms) that always call back the controllers for subtasks. We give examples using the solution \mul. Finally we present a benchmark architecture that serves two purposes: Providing the user with easier ways to produce graphs; Creating a framework for automatically tuning the library and supporting regression testing.Comment: 8 pages, 4th International Congress on Mathematical Software, Seoul : Korea, Republic Of (2014

Attention Allocation and Managerial Decision Making

    Get PDF
One of the major problems of managerial behavior is the setting of priorities. Time is a scarce resource and managers have to find ways to deal with the multiple tasks that face them. This paper addresses the issue of priority-setting among tasks by managers by proposing analogies from job-shop scheduling theory. We develop a model that views managers employing a combination of rationality and affective judgments with a limited processing capacity.Information Systems Working Papers Serie

Transoral trans-stomal microdebrider excision of tracheal papillomatosis

Objectives: To describe a technique for surgical removal of recurrent respiratory papilloma in the distal trachea in patients with an indwelling tracheostomy tube. Methods: A transoral trans-stomal technique for removal of distal tracheal papilloma using a modified ventilating bronchoscope setup and a microdebrider with a rotatable Skimmer blade (XOMED Products, Jacksonville, Florida, USA). Results: Surgical removal of papillomas in the distal trachea is a challenging procedure, involving potentially competing demands for visualization, instrumentation, and ventilation. Previously described methods for management of these challenging cases provide limited ability to deliver continuous oxygenation and ventilation during the procedure. The transoral trans-stomal technique overcomes these limitations in patients who have an existing tracheostomy. Conclusions: This technique allows for precise removal of papilloma in the distal trachea, while providing for excellent visualization and continuous oxygenation and ventilation of the patient. Relativistic Hydrodynamics with General Anomalous Charges

We consider the hydrodynamic regime of gauge theories with general triangle anomalies, where the participating currents may be global or gauged, abelian or non-abelian. We generalize the argument of arXiv:0906.5044, and construct at the viscous order the stress-energy tensor, the charge currents and the entropy current.Comment: 13 pages, Revte

Laser furnace and method for zone refining of semiconductor wafers

    Get PDF
A method of zone refining a crystal wafer (116 FIG. 1) comprising the steps of focusing a laser beam to a small spot (120) of selectable size on the surface of the crystal wafer (116) to melt a spot on the crystal wafer, scanning the small laser beam spot back and forth across the surface of the crystal wafer (116) at a constant velocity, and moving the scanning laser beam across a predetermined zone of the surface of the crystal wafer (116) in a direction normal to the laser beam scanning direction and at a selectible velocity to melt and refine the entire crystal wafer (116)

Model-independent analysis for determining mass splittings of heavy baryons

We study the hyperfine mass differences of heavy hadrons in the heavy quark effect theory (HQET). The effects of one-gluon exchange interaction are considered for the heavy mesons and baryons. Base on the known experimental data, we predict the masses of some heavy baryons in a model-independent way.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur

THE SPECTRAL CONTRIBUTION OF CAROTENOIDS TO LIGHT ABSORPTION AND REFLECTANCE IN GREEN LEAVES

    Get PDF
Absorbance and reflectance spectra in the visible and near infrared range of the spectrum, acquired for maple (Acer platanoides L.) leaves were studied. Standard deviation of absorbance spectra showed that in yellow to green leaves, with chlorophyll content at least up to 30 nmol/cm2, there is a spectral feature at 520 nm attributable to carotenoids. Reflectance around 520 nm also correlates closely with carotenoids content in yellow to green leaves. Thus, this spectral feature at 520 nm could be used as a measure of carotenoids content in green leaves and plants

R-symmetry and Supersymmetry Breaking at Finite Temperature

    Get PDF
We analyze the spontaneous U(1)RU(1)_R symmetry breaking at finite temperature for the simple O'Raifeartaigh-type model introduced in [1] in connection with spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. We calculate the finite temperature effective potential (free energy) to one loop order and study the thermal evolution of the model. We find that the R-symmetry breaking occurs through a second order phase transition. Its associated meta-stable supersymmetry breaking vacuum is thermodynamically favored at high temperatures and the model remains trapped in this state by a potential barrier, as the temperature lowers all the way until T=0.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures - Minor revisions, references added. Trisodium Dicalcium Bismuth Hexaoxide

Single crystals of the title compound, Na3Ca2BiO6, were grown from a high-temperature reactive flux solution of Na2CO3. Na3Ca2BiO6 crystallizes as an ordered rock-salt structure (space group Fddd), in which the octahedral holes in the oxide array are filled by an ordered 3:2:1 arrangement of Na+, Ca2+ and Bi5+ cations. All atoms except for one O atom lie on special positions; site symmetries are as follows: Bi 222, Ca 2, Na 222 and 2, O 2
