Effective action in DSR1 quantum field theory
We present the one-loop effective action of a quantum scalar field with DSR1
space-time symmetry as a sum over field modes. The effective action has real
and imaginary parts and manifest charge conjugation asymmetry, which provides
an alternative theoretical setting to the study of the particle-antiparticle
asymmetry in nature.Comment: 8 page
k-core (bootstrap) percolation on complex networks: Critical phenomena and nonlocal effects
We develop the theory of the k-core (bootstrap) percolation on uncorrelated
random networks with arbitrary degree distributions. We show that the k-core
percolation is an unusual, hybrid phase transition with a jump emergence of the
k-core as at a first order phase transition but also with a critical
singularity as at a continuous transition. We describe the properties of the
k-core, explain the meaning of the order parameter for the k-core percolation,
and reveal the origin of the specific critical phenomena. We demonstrate that a
so-called ``corona'' of the k-core plays a crucial role (corona is a subset of
vertices in the k-core which have exactly k neighbors in the k-core). It turns
out that the k-core percolation threshold is at the same time the percolation
threshold of finite corona clusters. The mean separation of vertices in corona
clusters plays the role of the correlation length and diverges at the critical
point. We show that a random removal of even one vertex from the k-core may
result in the collapse of a vast region of the k-core around the removed
vertex. The mean size of this region diverges at the critical point. We find an
exact mapping of the k-core percolation to a model of cooperative relaxation.
This model undergoes critical relaxation with a divergent rate at some critical
moment.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figure
Microsporogenesis in Brachiaria brizantha (Poaceae) as a selection tool for breeding.
The genus Brachiaria comprises more than 100 species and is the single most important genus of forage grass in the tropics. Brachiaria brizantha , widely used in Brazilian pastures for beef and dairy production, is native to tropical Africa. As a subsidy to the breeding program underway in Brazil, cytological studies were employed to determine the chromosome number and to evaluate microsporogenesis in 46 accessions of this species available at Embrapa Beef Cattle (Brazil)
Topological insulator particles as optically induced oscillators: towards dynamical force measurements and optical rheology
We report the first experimental study upon the optical trapping and
manipulation of topological insulator (TI) particles. By virtue of the unique
TI properties, which have a conducting surface and an insulating bulk, the
particles present a peculiar behaviour in the presence of a single laser beam
optical tweezers: they oscillate in a plane perpendicular to the direction of
the laser propagation, as a result of the competition between radiation
pressure and gradient forces. In other words, TI particles behave as optically
induced oscillators, allowing dynamical measurements with unprecedented
simplicity and purely optical control. Actually, optical rheology of soft
matter interfaces and biological membranes, as well as dynamical force
measurements in macromolecules and biopolymers, may be quoted as feasible
possibilities for the near future.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Correspondence and requests for Supplementary

GHASP: an H kinematic survey of spiral galaxies - X. Surface photometry, decompositions and the Tully-Fisher relation in the Rc-band
We present Rc-band surface photometry for 170 of the 203 galaxies in GHASP,
Gassendi H-Alpha survey of SPirals, a sample of late-type galaxies for which
high-resolution Fabry-Perot H{\alpha} maps have previously been obtained. Our
data set is constructed by new Rc-band observations taken at the Observatoire
de Haute-Provence (OHP), supplemented with Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)
archival data, obtained with the purpose of deriving homogeneous photometric
profiles and parameters. Our results include Rc-band surface brightness
profiles for 170 galaxies and profiles for 108 of these objects. We
catalogue several parameters of general interest for further reference, such as
total magnitude, effective radius and isophotal parameters -- magnitude,
position angle, ellipticity and inclination. We also perform a structural
decomposition of the surface brightness profiles using a multi-component method
in order to separate disks from bulges and bars, and to observe the main
scaling relations involving luminosities, sizes and maximum velocities.
We determine the Rc-band Tully Fisher relation using maximum velocities
derived solely from H rotation curves for a sample of 80 galaxies,
resulting in a slope of , zero point of and an
estimated intrinsic scatter of . We note that, different from
the TF-relation in the near-infrared derived for the same sample, no change in
the slope of the relation is seen at the low-mass end (for galaxies with
km/s). We suggest that this different behaviour of the Tully
Fisher relation (with the optical relation being described by a single
power-law while the near-infrared by two) may be caused by differences in the
stellar mass to light ratio for galaxies with km/s.Comment: 17 pages, 11 figure
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE EFFICIENCY OF THERMAL SYSTEMS BUILT WITH REFLECTIVE INSULATORS WITH AND WITHOUT VACUUM
The use of reflective surfaces functioning as thermal insulators has grown significantly over the years. Reflective thermal insulators are materials that have several characteristics such as low emissivity, low absorptivity and high reflectivity in the infrared spectrum. The use of these materials has grown very much lately, since they contain several important radioactive properties that minimize the heat loss of thermal systems and cooling systems that are used to block the heat on the roof of buildings. A system made of three surfaces of 430 stainless steel mirror was built to analyze the influence of reflective surfaces as a way to reduce the heat loss and thereby conserve the energy of a thermal system. The system was analyzed both with and without the presence of vacuum, and then compared with a system that contained glass wool between the stainless steel mirror walls, since this insulator is considered resistive and also broadly used around the world in thermal systems. The reflectivity and emissivity of the surfaces used were also measured in this experiment. A type K thermocouple was fixed on the wall of the system to obtain the temperature of the stainless steel mirror surfaces and to analyze the thermal behavior of each configuration used. The results showed an efficiency of 13% when the reflective surfaces were used to minimize the heat loss of the thermal system. However, the system with vacuum had the best outcome, a 60% efficiency. Both of these were compared to the system made of glass wool as a thermal insulator
