Worldwide flight and ground-based exposure of composite materials
The long-term durability of those advanced composite materials which are applicable to aircraft structures was discussed. The composite components of various military and commercial aircraft and helicopters were reviewed. Quasi-equilibrium binary black hole sequences for puncture data derived from helical Killing vector conditions
We construct a sequence of binary black hole puncture data derived under the
assumptions (i) that the ADM mass of each puncture as measured in the
asymptotically flat space at the puncture stays constant along the sequence,
and (ii) that the orbits along the sequence are quasi-circular in the sense
that several necessary conditions for the existence of a helical Killing vector
are satisfied. These conditions are equality of ADM and Komar mass at infinity
and equality of the ADM and a rescaled Komar mass at each puncture. In this
paper we explicitly give results for the case of an equal mass black hole
binary without spin, but our approach can also be applied in the general case.
We find that up to numerical accuracy the apparent horizon mass also remains
constant along the sequence and that the prediction for the innermost stable
circular orbit is similar to what has been found with the effective potential

Simultaneous chromatic dispersion, polarization-mode-dispersion and OSNR monitoring at 40Gbit/s
A novel method for independent and simultaneous monitoring of chromatic dispersion ( CD), first-order PMD and OSNR in 40Gbit/s systems is proposed and demonstrated. This is performed using in-band tone monitoring of 5GHz, optically down-converted to a low intermediate-frequency (IF) of 10kHz. The measurement provides a large monitoring range with good accuracies for CD (4742 +/- 100ps/nm), differential group delay (DGD) (200 +/- 4ps) and OSNR (23 +/- 1dB), independently of the bit-rate. In addition, the use of electro-absorption modulators (EAM) for the simultaneous down-conversion of all channels and the use of low-speed detectors makes it cost effective for multi-channel operation. Application of a helicopter mathematical model to the Langley differential maneuvering simulator for use in a helicopter/fighter evasive maneuver study
A real time simulation study was conducted using a differential maneuvering simulator to determine and evaluate helicopter evasive maneuvers when attacked by fighter aircraft. A general helicopter mathematical model was modified to represent an H-53 helicopter. The helicopter model was compared to H-53 flight test data to determine any differences between the simulated and actual vehicles. The simulated helicopter was also subjectively validated by participating pilots. Two fighter mathematical models validated in previous studies were utilized for the attacking aircraft. The results of this simulation study have been verified in a flight test program conducted by the U. S. Air Force and were found to closely match the flight results
Towards understanding Regge trajectories in holographic QCD
We reassess a work done by Migdal on the spectrum of low-energy vector mesons
in QCD in the light of the AdS-QCD correspondence. Recently, a tantalizing
parallelism was suggested between Migdal's work and a family of holographic
duals of QCD. Despite the intriguing similarities, both approaches face a major
drawback: the spectrum is in conflict with well-tested Regge scaling. However,
it has recently been shown that holographic duals can be modified to accomodate
Regge behavior. Therefore, it is interesting to understand whether Regge
behavior can also be achieved in Migdal's approach. In this paper we
investigate this issue. We find that Migdal's approach, which is based on a
modified Pade approximant, is closely related to the issue of quark-hadron

On the Corner Elements of the CKM and PMNS Matrices
Recent experiments show that the top-right corner element () of the
PMNS, like that () of the CKM, matrix is small but nonzero, and suggest
further via unitarity that it is smaller than the bottom-left corner element
(), again as in the CKM case (). An attempt in
explaining these facts would seem an excellent test for any model of the mixing
phenomenon. Here, it is shown that if to the assumption of a universal rank-one
mass matrix, long favoured by phenomenologists, one adds that this matrix
rotates with scale, then it follows that (A) by inputting the mass ratios
, and , (i) the corner elements are
small but nonzero, (ii) , , (iii)
estimates result for the ratios and , and
(B) by inputting further the experimental values of and
, (iv) estimates result for the values of the corner elements
themselves. All the inequalities and estimates obtained are consistent with
