Background: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and exposure with response prevention for treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have demonstrated empirical support; however, a substantial number of patients remain with clinically significant OCD symptoms after such treatments. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and combination of ACT and SSRIs in the treatment of adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Patients and Methods: Thirty-two outpatients meeting Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision criteria for OCD were randomly assigned to one of the three treatment conditions: ACT, SSRIs and combined treatment. The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire were administered at pre-treatment and post-treatment. Twenty-seven patients completed the study. Data was analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), clinically significant change (CSC) and complete remission status. Results: ANCOVA revealed that patients treated with ACT and combined treatment experienced a significantly greater improvement in obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptoms and experiential avoidance (EA) at post-treatment compared to those treated with SSRIs alone. However, there were no significant differences between ACT and combined treatment on OC symptoms and EA. CSC and complete remission status results showed that unlike SSRI, ACT and combined treatment led to more improvement in OC symptoms. Conclusions: ACT and combined treatment are more effective than SSRIs alone in treating OC symptoms and EA. However, it appears that adding SSRIs to ACT does not increase the effectiveness of ACT in the treatment of adults with OCD in the short-term. © 2015, Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences

PT. Nadira Prima is one of manufacturing firms that is active in furniture sectors in Semarang. The products dominated by furniture that made of wood such as table, chair, benches, cupboard, frame, and sideboard. Based on the results of the observation and interviews with HRD section of the work accident in PT. Nadira Prima, most accidents occured on the production machine and the accidents were categorized as a work accident with high level severity because in some cases result in some workers lost one member of their body. From the results of observation also found some employees had distruption respiratory due to inhaling dust remaining a saw wood and irritating eyes problems. Based on these cases, note that the need for risk analysis efforts on safety and health work that integrated into the risk management starts with the identification of risks at work process operator to determine the level of risk of accidents and connect it to the facts of the accident and diseases caused by work that ever happened in PT. Nadira Prima. So that the risk can be minimized easily by specifying the appropriate control. In this study, the authors used a risk assesment process based on ISO 31000: 2009 with the purpose to find out the level of risk (risk rating) in the machines area. Whereas, for the risk identification process, the author uses the method of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA). The method is aimed at knowing the risks posed so that potential accidents and illness caused by work activity can be controlled by outlining steps of jobs

Background: Lack of data on occupational stress among Iranian industrial employees persuaded us to design and conduct this study to evaluate the prevalence and associated parameters of occupational stress among male employees of the Esfahan Steel Company (ESCO), one of the biggest industrial units in Iran. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 400 male employees were sampled from the operational divisions of the company. Socio-demographic data and stress-related variables were entered into a logistic regression to determine significant associated factors of occupational stress among the participants. Results: From all samples, 53 were found as stressful. A monthly salary of less than 600 (OR = 1.88, 95 confidence interval CI = 1.21-2.94), family-related problems (OR = 2.75, 95% CI = 1.22-6.21), work environment (OR = 3.09, 95% CI = 1.78-5.33) and having a second job (OR = 2.68, 95% CI = 1.78-6.78) were significantly associated with the outcome. Conclusions: Attention to some variables, especially economic problems and the work environment of employees, might play a protective role against the prevalence of occupational stress, not only among the employees of ESCO but also among all industrial employees in Iran

Assessment of energy storage systems as a reserve provider in stochastic network constrained unit commitment

    Get PDF
Recently, the provision of the reserve from energy storage systems (ESSs) is introduced as a source for ancillary services to address the uncertainties of renewable power generations. The performance of ESSs is analysed while they are applied as a provider of regulation reserves. It has been revealed that previous stochastic models neglect the impact of corrective dispatches, related to the provision of regulation reserves, on the energy level stored in the ESSs, which can lead to large deviations. This study coordinates the stored energy of ESSs to be feasible regarding the dispatches in the base schedule and rescheduling within scenarios. Also, the wind speed fluctuations are considered as the source of uncertainty, and scenarios of wind energy are generated using the Weibull distribution function. The IEEE 24-Bus standard test system is applied for the examination of the proposed model. The results show that the proposed model can manage the performance of ESSs in rescheduling within scenarios, while the coordinated reserve provision of ESSs can remove the concerns about insufficient stored energy of ESSs

Background: Leishmaniasis is one of the infectious parasitic diseases of highest incidence in the world. Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) has long been reported in Shiraz, Southern Iran. There is a need to find a sensitive and specific method for treatment and control of the disease. Methods: We have compared the sensitivity of the conventional methods microscopy and cultivation of lesion scrapes against PCR amplification of parasite kinetoplast DNA from these samples. The samples (n=219) were obtained from the patients clinically suspected of CL. The smears were stained with Giemsa for microscopy and cultured in Novy-Nicolle-McNeal (NNN) blood agar for promastigote growth. For PCR, the dry smears were scraped off the slides and DNA was extracted. Results: The positive rates from 219 specimens were 76.71%, 50.68%, and 93.61% for microscopy, cultivation, and PCR, respectively. The highest correlation was found between PCR and microscopy method (P= 0.014). In PCR assay, 95.61%, 3.9%, and 0.49% of the samples were identified as Leishmania major, L. tropica, and dermatropic L. infantum, respectively. Conclusion: The PCR method appears to be the most sensitive for the diagnosis of CL and is valuable for identifying the other species of Leishmania with confusing dermatropic signs
