Measuring the SUSY Breaking Scale at the LHC in the Slepton NLSP Scenario of GMSB Models
We report a study on the measurement of the SUSY breaking scale sqrt(F) in
the framework of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) models at the
LHC. The work is focused on the GMSB scenario where a stau is the
next-to-lightest SUSY particle (NLSP) and decays into a gravitino with lifetime
c*tau_NLSP in the range 0.5 m to 1 km. We study the identification of
long-lived sleptons using the momentum and time of flight measurements in the
muon chambers of the ATLAS experiment. A realistic evaluation of the
statistical and systematic uncertainties on the measurement of the slepton mass
and lifetime is performed, based on a detailed simulation of the detector
response. Accessible range and precision on sqrt(F) achievable with a counting
method are assessed. Many features of our analysis can be extended to the study

Aspects of GMSB Phenomenology at TeV Colliders
The status of two on-going studies concerning important aspects of the
phenomenology of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) models at TeV
colliders is reported. The first study deals with the characteristics of the
light Higgs boson spectrum allowed by the (minimal and non-minimal) GMSB
framework. Today's most accurate GMSB model generation and two-loop
Feynman-diagrammatic calculation of m_h have been combined. The Higgs masses
are shown in dependence of various model parameters at the messenger and
electroweak scales. In the minimal model, an upper limit on m_h of about 124
GeV is found for m_t = 175 GeV. The second study is focused on the measurement
of the fundamental SUSY breaking scale sqrt(F) at the LHC in the GMSB scenario
where a stau is the next-to-lightest SUSY particle (NLSP) and decays into a
gravitino with c*tau_NLSP in the range 0.5 m to 1 km. This implies the
measurement of mass and lifetime of long lived sleptons. The identification is
performed by determining the time of flight in the ATLAS muon chambers.

Dense multiple antenna systems
We consider multiple antenna systems in which a large number of antennas occupy a given physical volume. In this regime the assumptions of the standard models of multiple antennas systems become questionable. We show that for such spatially dense multiple antenna systems one should expect the behavior of the capacity to be qualitatively different than what the standard multiple antenna models predict
The impact of diets containing Hermetia illucens meal on the growth, intestinal health, and microbiota of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata).
The present study investigated the effect of replacing fishmeal (FM) with insect meal of Hermetia illucens (HI) in the diet of Sparus aurata farmed inshore on growth, gut health, and microbiota composition. Two isolipidic (18% as fed) and isoproteic (42% as fed) diets were tested at the farm scale: a control diet without HI meal and an experimental diet with 11% HI meal replacing FM. At the end of the 25-week feeding trial, final body weight, specific growth rate, feed conversion rate, and hepatosomatic index were not affected by the diet. Gross morphology of the gastrointestinal tract and the liver was unchanged and showed no obvious signs of inflammation. High-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons (MiSeq platform, Illumina) used to characterize the gut microbial community profile showed that Proteobacteria, Fusobacteria, and Firmicutes were the dominant phyla of the gut microbiota of gilthead seabream, regardless of diet. Dietary inclusion of HI meal altered the gut microbiota by significantly decreasing the abundance of Cetobacterium and increasing the relative abundance of the Oceanobacillus and Paenibacillus genera. Our results clearly indicate that the inclusion of HI meal as an alternative animal protein source positively affects the gut microbiota of seabream by increasing the abundance of beneficial genera, thereby improving gut health and maintaining growth performance of S. aurata from coastal farms
On the capacity of multi-antenna Gaussian channels
We investigate the use of multi-antennas at both ends of a point-to-point communication system over the additive Gaussian channel. We consider a system with t transmit antennas and r receive antennas in which the received vector v∈Cτ depends on the transmitted vector u∈Cτ via: v=Hu+w where H∈C r×t is the channel transfer matrix and w is zero-mean complex circular symmetric Gaussian noise. We assume that E[ww]=σ 2Ir. The transmitter is constrained in its total power, i.e., E[uu]⩽Es. We assume that the channel matrix H is known at both ends of the communication system, and that the waveform channel is flat over the bandwidth of interes
Interactions of Heavy Hadrons using Regge Phenomenology and the Quark Gluon String Model
The search for stable heavy exotic hadrons is a promising way to observe new
physics processes at collider experiments. The discovery potential for such
particles can be enhanced or suppressed by their interactions with detector
material. This paper describes a model for the interactions in matter of stable
hadrons containing an exotic quark of charges or
using Regge phenomenology and the Quark Gluon String Model. The influence of
such interactions on searches at the LHC is also discussed
Fast shower simulation in the ATLAS calorimeter
The time to simulate pp collisions in the ATLAS detector is largely dominated by the showering of electromagnetic particles in the heavy parts of the detector, especially the electromagnetic barrel and endcap calorimeters. Two procedures have been developed to accelerate the processing time of electromagnetic particles in these regions: (1) a fast shower parameterisation and (2) a frozen shower library. Both work by generating the response of the calorimeter to electrons and positrons with Geant 4, and then reintroduce the response into the simulation at runtime.
In the fast shower parameterisation technique, a parameterisation is tuned to single electrons and used later by simulation. In the frozen shower technique, actual showers from low-energy particles are used in the simulation. Full Geant 4 simulation is used to develop showers down to ~1 GeV, at which point the shower is terminated by substituting a frozen shower. Judicious use of both techniques over the entire electromagnetic portion of the ATLAS calorimeter produces an important improvement of CPU time. Controlling the dynamics of a bidimensional gel above and below its percolation transition
The morphology and the microscopic internal dynamics of a bidimensional gel
formed by spontaneous aggregation of gold nanoparticles confined at the water
surface are investigated by a suite of techniques, including grazing-incidence
x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (GI-XPCS). The range of concentrations
studied spans across the percolation transition for the formation of the gel.
The dynamical features observed by GI-XPCS are interpreted in view of the
results of microscopical imaging; an intrinsic link between the mechanical
modulus and internal dynamics is demonstrated for all the concentrations. Our
work presents, to the best of our knowledge, the first example of a transition
from stretched to compressed correlation function actively controlled by
quasistatically varying the relevant thermodynamic variable. Moreover, by
applying a model proposed time ago by Duri and Cipelletti [A. Duri and L.
Cipelletti, Europhys. Lett. 76, 972 (2006)] we are able to build a novel master
curve for the shape parameter, whose scaling factor allows us to quantify a
'long time displacement length'. This characteristic length is shown to
converge, as the concentration is increased, to the 'short time localization
length' determined by pseudo Debye-Waller analysis of the initial contrast.
Finally, the intrinsic dynamics of the system are then compared with that
induced by means of a delicate mechanical perturbation applied to the
interface
The replacement of fish meal with poultry by-product meal and insect exuviae: effects on growth performance, gut health and microbiota of the European seabass, Dicentrarchus labrax.
This study addressed the urgent need for sustainable protein sources in aquaculture due to the depletion of marine resources and rising costs. Animal protein sources, particularly poultry by-product meal (PBM) and insect exuviae meal, were investigated as viable alternatives to fishmeal (FM). The research study confirmed the successful replacement of FM with a combination of PBM and insect exuviae meal (up to 50%) in the diet of European seabass without compromising growth, feed conversion, gut health, and liver fat content. In particular, growth was robust with both PBM formulations, with the 25% PBM diet showing better results. Histological examinations showed good gut and liver health, contradicting the concerns of previous studies. This paper emphasizes the importance of holistic analyzes that go beyond growth parameters and include histomorphological investigations. The results show that PBM in combination with insect/exuviae meal is well tolerated by seabass, which is consistent with reports in the literature of it mitigating negative effects on gut
health. A detailed analysis of the microbiota revealed a decrease in the Firmicutes/Proteobacteria ratio due to an increase in potentially pathogenic bacteria. However, the formulation containing insect exuviae partially counteracted this effect by preserving the beneficial Lactobacillus and promoting the synthesis of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), particularly butyrate. Chitin-rich components from insect exuviae were associated with improved gut health, which was supported by the increased production of SCFAs, which are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. This paper concludes
that a combination of PBM and insect/exuviae meal can replace up to 50% of FM in the diet of seabass, supporting sustainable aquaculture practices. Despite some changes in the microbiota, the negative effects are mitigated by the addition of insect exuviae, highlighting their potential as a prebiotic to increase fish productivity and contribute to a circular economy in aquaculture
