Longitudinal and Transverse Parton Momentum Distributions for Hadrons within Relativistic Constituent Quark Models
Longitudinal and transverse parton distributions for pion and nucleon are
calculated from hadron vertexes obtained by a study of form factors within
relativistic quark models. The relevance of the one-gluon-exchange dominance at
short range for the behavior of the form factors at large momentum transfer and
of the parton distributions at the end points is stressed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figs. Proceedings of Hadron 09, to appear in AIP

The pion electromagnetic form-factor in a QCD-inspired model
We present detailed numerical results for the pion space-like electromagnetic
form factor obtained within a recently proposed model of the pion
electromagnetic current in a confining light-front QCD-inspired model. The
model incorporates the vector meson dominance mechanism at the quark level,
where the dressed photon with decay in an interacting quark-antiquark
pair, wich absorbs the initial pion and produces the pion in the final state.Comment: Talk given in Light-Cone 2004, Amsterdam,NL., 16-20 August, 2004. To

Cetaceans value and conservation in the Mediterranean Sea
This review provides an overview of the Mediterranean diversity and conservation status of cetaceans, and the value associated with their conservation and non-consumptive use. Mediterranean Sea is one of the world's diversity hotspots. Its biodiversity is increasingly under threat in the whole region and key species as cetaceans challenge for conservation. All the identified threats are interlinked and cumulatively contribute to the habitat degradation of the entire area as well as reduced health status of the cetaceans that live there. Whales and dolphins, defined as charismatic megafauna, flag species, apex predators and bio indicators of the marine environment health are demanding social substantial changes. Needs are for spatial prioritization within a comprehensive framework for regional conservation planning, the
acquisition of additional information identifying critical habitats in data-poor areas and for data deficient species, and addressing the challenges of establishing transboundary governance and collaboration in socially, culturally and politically complex conditions. This paper examines research gaps, questions and issues (population abundance estimates, as well as the biological, ecological, physiological characteristics) surrounding cetacean species in the context of biodiversity conservation and highlights the need of targeted conservation management actions to reduce sources of disturb of
key threatening processes in the Mediterranean Sea. The ‘precautionary principle’ must be adopted at all levels in attempts to mitigate impacts and thus provides scope for the translation of the principle into operational measures. As natural entities, cetaceans have their objective intrinsic value, not humanly conferred
Development, fabrication and testing of a magnetically connected plastic vacuum probe surface sampler
The sampler utilizes permanent magnets and soft metal pole pieces to connect the cone/filter assembly to the sampling head and vacuum supply. The cone/filter assembly is packaged in a plastic container and presterilized so that the need for any human contact during the sampling procedure is completely eliminated. Microbiological tests have demonstrated that the sampling efficiency is not affected by the magnetic coupling apparatus and that the probe appears to function as efficiently as the conventional plastic and Sandia vacuum probes
Electromagnetic Hadron Form Factors and Higher Fock Components
Investigation of the spacelike and timelike electromagnetic form factors of
hadrons, within a relativistic microscopical model characterized by a small set
of hypothesis, could shed light on the components of hadron states beyond the
valence one. Our relativistic approach has been successfully applied first to
the pion and then the extension to the nucleon has been undertaken. The pion
case is shortly reviewed as an illustrative example for introducing the main
ingredients of our approach, and preliminary results for the nucleon in the
spacelike range are evaluated.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figs, espcrc1.sty included. Proceedings of Fifth
