    Branched-Chain Amino Acid Negatively Regulates KLF15 Expression via PI3K-AKT Pathway.

    Recent studies have linked branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) with numerous metabolic diseases. However, the molecular basis of BCAA's roles in metabolic regulation remains to be established. KLF15 (Krüppel-like factor 15) is a transcription factor and master regulator of glycemic, lipid, and amino acids metabolism. In the present study, we found high concentrations of BCAA suppressed KLF15 expression while BCAA starvation induced KLF15 expression, suggesting KLF15 expression is negatively controlled by BCAA.Interestingly, BCAA starvation induced PI3K-AKT signaling. KLF15 induction by BCAA starvation was blocked by PI3K and AKT inhibitors, indicating the activation of PI3K-AKT signaling pathway mediated the KLF15 induction. BCAA regulated KLF15 expression at transcriptional level but not post-transcriptional level. However, BCAA starvation failed to increase the KLF15-promoter-driven luciferase expression, suggesting KLF15 promoter activity was not directly controlled by BCAA. Finally, fasting reduced BCAA abundance in mice and KLF15 expression was dramatically induced in muscle and white adipose tissue, but not in liver. Together, these data demonstrated BCAA negatively regulated KLF15 expression, suggesting a novel molecular mechanism underlying BCAA's multiple functions in metabolic regulation

    Pyoderma gangrenosum is an uncommon, destructive, cutaneous ulceration which presents as ulcerative, pustular, bulluous and vegetative forms, the ulcerative forms being more common. We present the case of 41-year-old woman with Crohn's disease who presented with a rather unusual form of pyoderma gangrenosum, aseptic cutaneous abscess. It was initially misdiagnosed as a fistulous tract in the abdominal wall, but later prompt diagnosis of pyoderma gangrenosum led to a very satisfactory outcome

    Palm kernel shell is a promising candidate as activated carbon precursor due to its granular structure, chemical stability, high mechanical strength and local availability at almost no cost. It can be activated into high porosity carbon in a short time due to its high lignin content, low cellulose content and less fibrous structure. This paper aimed to provide a short summary of various types of palm kernel shell-based activated carbons, the preparation strategies, and the textural properties for water pollutants removal.     Inhibition and Adsorption impact of Leave Extracts of Cnidoscolus Aconitifolius on Corrosion of Aluminium Sheet in 1 M Hcl Medium

    Corrosion inhibition in the presence of alokaloid and non alkaloid extracts of Cnidoscolus aconitifolius in 1M HCl was studied using the weight loss and hydrogen evolution techniques at 303, 313 and 333 K. The results obtained revealed that the inhibition efficiency decreased with increase in temperature. Inhibition occurred through adsorption of the alokaloid and non alkaloid extracts molecules on the metal surface. The apparent activation energies, enthalpies and entropies of the dissolution process and the free energies and enthalpies for the adsorption process were determined and discussed. The fundamental thermodynamic functions were used to evaluate important inhibitive properties of Cnidoscolus aconitifolius.Keywords: Activation energy; Gibb’s Free Energy; Langmuir adsorption; Cnidoscolus aconitifolius; Aluminium sheet
