Multiepoch Radial Velocity Observations of L Dwarfs
We report on the development of a technique for precise radial-velocity
measurements of cool stars and brown dwarfs in the near infrared. Our technique
is analogous to the Iodine (I2) absorption cell method that has proven so
successful in the optical regime. We rely on telluric CH4 absorption features
to serve as a wavelength reference, relative to which we measure Doppler shifts
of the CO and H2O features in the spectra of our targets. We apply this
technique to high-resolution (R~50,000) spectra near 2.3 micron of nine L
dwarfs taken with the Phoenix instrument on Gemini-South and demonstrate a
typical precision of 300 m/s. We conduct simulations to estimate our expected
precision and show our performance is currently limited by the signal-to-noise
of our data. We present estimates of the rotational velocities and systemic
velocities of our targets. With our current data, we are sensitive to
companions with M sin i > 2MJ in orbits with periods less than three days. We
identify no companions in our current data set. Future observations with
improved signal-to-noise should result in radial-velocity precision of 100 m/s

Barriers and Collaborations in Decolonization and Indigenization of Library and Information Studies (LIS) Programs in Canada
Decolonization and Indigenization of Library and Information Studies (LIS) curriculum is a crucial undertaking in the Canadian context, especially in light of the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), the adoption of UNDRIP, and national discussions around reconciliation. While there have been varied initiatives at Canadian LIS schools, structural barriers including accreditation requirements and institutional siloing among others inhibit the development of pan-Canadian collaborations. After a review of the literature, this paper explores the multiple barriers to decolonization and Indigenization of LIS curriculum in a Canadian context and then examines the work National Indigenous Knowledge and Language Alliance (NIKLA), and Indigenous led partnerships, in advancing work in this area. The paper concludes by discussing future work planned by NIKLA and its Indigenous Curriculum working group, while also noting future challenges
Fluid gels: a new feedstock for high viscosity jetting
Suspensions of gel particles which are pourable or spoonable at room temperature can be created by shearing a gelling biopolymer through its gelation (thermal or ion mediated) rather than allowing quiescent cooling – thus the term ‘fluid gel’ may be used to describe the resulting material. As agar gelation is thermoreversible this type of fluid gel is able to be heated again to melt agar gel particles to varying degrees then re-form a network quiescently upon cooling, whose strength depends on the temperature of re-heating, determining the amount of agar solubilised and subsequently able to partake in re-gelation. Using this principle, for the first time fluid gels have been applied to a high viscosity 3D printing process wherein the printing temperature (at the nozzle) is controllable. This allows the use of ambient temperature feedstocks and by altering the nozzle temperature, the internal nature (presence or absence of gel particles) and gel strength of printed droplets differs. If the nozzle prints at different temperatures for each layer a structure with modulated texture could be created

Accommodation and vergence response gains to different near cues characterize specific esotropias
Aim. To describe preliminary findings of how the profile of the use of blur, disparity and proximal cues varies between non-strabismic groups and those with different types of esotropia.
Design. Case control study
Methodology. A remote haploscopic photorefractor measured simultaneous convergence and accommodation to a range of targets containing all combinations of binocular disparity, blur and proximal (looming) cues. 13 constant esotropes, 16 fully accommodative esotropes, and 8 convergence excess esotropes were compared with age and refractive error matched controls, and 27 young adult emmetropic controls. All wore full refractive correction if not emmetropic. Response AC/A and CA/C ratios were also assessed.
Results. Cue use differed between the groups. Even esotropes with constant suppression and no binocular vision (BV) responded to disparity in cues. The constant esotropes with weak BV showed trends for more stable responses and better vergence and accommodation than those without any BV. The accommodative esotropes made less use of disparity cues to drive accommodation (p=0.04) and more use of blur to drive vergence (p=0.008) than controls. All esotropic groups failed to show the strong bias for better responses to disparity cues found in the controls, with convergence excess esotropes favoring blur cues. AC/A and CA/C ratios existed in an inverse relationship in the different groups. Accommodative lag of >1.0D at 33cm was common (46%) in the pooled esotropia groups compared with 11% in typical children (p=0.05).
Conclusion. Esotropic children use near cues differently from matched non-esotropic children in ways characteristic to their deviations. Relatively higher weighting for blur cues was found in accommodative esotropia compared to matched controls
Multifactorial neutropenia in a patient with acute promyelocytic leukemia and associated large granular lymphocyte expansion: A case report
Neutropenia in the setting of acute hematological malignancies may impact disease prognosis, thus affecting therapy dose intensity. This is often due to chemotherapy\u2011induced aplasia as well as to the disease itself. However, chronic neutropenia deserves further investigation, as the management of reversible concomitant causes may avoid treatment delay. The present study describes a case of an acute promyelocytic leukemia patient with chronic severe neutropenia of multifactorial origin, including acute leukemia itself, chemotherapy, autoimmune activation with anti\u2011platelets and anti\u2011neutrophil antibodies positivity, and the rare association of large granular lymphocyte (LGL) expansion. As neutropenia may challenge the diagnosis and treatment of acute malignancies, clinicians and hematopathologists must discuss the differential diagnosis in order to avoid misdiagnosing and undertreating concomitant diseases. In particular, LGL chronic expansion and autoimmunity should be considered
Impact of multi-vinyl taxogen dimensions on high molecular weight soluble polymer synthesis using transfer-dominated branching radical telomerisation

With the ever-growing reliance on polymeric materials for numerous applications, new avenues to induce, design and control degradation are clearly important. Here, we describe a previously unreported approach to controlling enzymatic hydrolysis of high molecular weight branched polymers formed from the new free-radical polymer synthesis strategy transfer-dominated branching radical telomerisation (TBRT). Modifying the chemical nature of TBRT polymers may be accomplished through telogen selection and multi-vinyl taxogen (MVT) design, and we show telogen-driven control of enzyme-catalysed hydrolysis and the impact of careful placement of hydrolytically susceptible groups within readily synthesised MVTs. Our results indicate that utilising conventional free-radical chemistries and unsaturated monomers as feedstocks for highly branched polymer architectures has considerable potential for the design of future materials that degrade into very low molecular weight byproducts at variable and controllable rates
