Citation and peer review of data: moving towards formal data publication
This paper discusses many of the issues associated with formally publishing data in academia, focusing primarily on the structures that need to be put in place for peer review and formal citation of datasets. Data publication is becoming increasingly important to the scientific community, as it will provide a mechanism for those who create data to receive academic credit for their work and will allow the conclusions arising from an analysis to be more readily verifiable, thus promoting transparency in the scientific process. Peer review of data will also provide a mechanism for ensuring the quality of datasets, and we provide suggestions on the types of activities one expects to see in the peer review of data. A simple taxonomy of data publication methodologies is presented and evaluated, and the paper concludes with a discussion of dataset granularity, transience and semantics, along with a recommended human-readable citation syntax
A Template for a New Generic Geographically Weighted R Package gwverse
GWR is a popular approach for investigating the spatial variation in relationships between response and predictor variables, and critically for investigating and understanding process spatial heterogeneity. The geographically weighted (GW) framework is increasingly used to accommodate different types of models and analyses, reflecting a wider desire to explore spatial variation in model parameters and outputs. However, the growth in the use of GWR and different GW models has only been partially supported by package development in both R and Python, the major coding environments for spatial analysis. The result is that refinements have been inconsistently included within GWR and GW functions in any given package. This paper outlines the structure of a new gwverse package, that may over time replace GW model, that takes advantage of recent developments in the composition of complex, integrated packages. It conceptualizes gwverse as having a modular structure, that separates core GW functionality and applications such as GWR. It adopts a function factory approach, in which bespoke functions are created and returned to the user based on user-defined parameters. The paper introduces two demonstrator modules that can be used to undertake GWR and identifies a number of key considerations and next steps

Scaling of the anomalous Hall effect in SrCaRuO
The anomalous Hall effect (AHE) of ferromagnetic thin films of
SrCaRuO (0 0.4) is studied as a function of
and temperature . As increases, both the transition temperature
and the magnetization are reduced and vanish near 0.7. For all
compositions, the transverse resistivity varies non-monotonously
with , and even changes sign, thus violating the conventional expression

New Evidence for P-gp-Mediated Export of Amyloid-β PEPTIDES in Molecular, Blood-Brain Barrier and Neuronal Models
Defective clearance mechanisms lead to the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides in the Alzheimer’s brain. Though predominantly generated in neurons, little is known about how these hydrophobic, aggregation-prone, and tightly membrane-associated peptides exit into the extracellular space where they deposit and propagate neurotoxicity. The ability for P-glycoprotein (P-gp), an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter, to export Aβ across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) has previously been reported. However, controversies surrounding the P-gp–Aβ interaction persist. Here, molecular data affirm that both Aβ40 and Aβ42 peptide isoforms directly interact with and are substrates of P-gp. This was reinforced ex vivo by the inhibition of Aβ42 transport in brain capillaries from P-gp-knockout mice. Moreover, we explored whether P-gp could exert the same role in neurons. Comparison between non-neuronal CHO-APP and human neuroblastoma SK-N-SH cells revealed that P-gp is expressed and active in both cell types. Inhibiting P-gp activity using verapamil and nicardipine impaired Aβ40 and Aβ42 secretion from both cell types, as determined by ELISA. Collectively, these findings implicate P-gp in Aβ export from neurons, as well as across the BBB endothelium, and suggest that restoring or enhancing P-gp function could be a viable therapeutic approach for removing excess Aβ out of the brain in Alzheimer’s disease
Measurement of statistical nuclear spin polarization in a nanoscale GaAs sample
We measure the statistical polarization of quadrupolar nuclear spins in a
sub-micrometer (0.6 um^3) particle of GaAs using magnetic resonance force
microscopy. The crystalline sample is cut out of a GaAs wafer and attached to a
micro-mechanical cantilever force sensor using a focused ion beam technique.
Nuclear magnetic resonance is demonstrated on ensembles containing less than 5
x 10^8 nuclear spins and occupying a volume of around (300 nm)^3 in GaAs with
reduced volumes possible in future experiments. We discuss how the further
reduction of this detection volume will bring the spin ensemble into a regime
where random spin fluctuations, rather than Boltzmann polarization, dominate
its dynamics. The detection of statistical polarization in GaAs therefore
represents an important first step toward 3D magnetic resonance imaging of

Transport Properties, Thermodynamic Properties, and Electronic Structure of SrRuO3
SrRuO is a metallic ferromagnet. Its electrical resistivity is reported
for temperatures up to 1000K; its Hall coefficient for temperatures up to 300K;
its specific heat for temperatures up to 230K. The energy bands have been
calculated by self-consistent spin-density functional theory, which finds a
ferromagnetic ordered moment of 1.45 per Ru atom. The measured
linear specific heat coefficient is 30mJ/mole, which exceeds the
theoretical value by a factor of 3.7. A transport mean free path at room
temperature of is found. The resistivity increases nearly
linearly with temperature to 1000K in spite of such a short mean free path that
resistivity saturation would be expected. The Hall coefficient is small and
positive above the Curie temperature, and exhibits both a low-field and a

Deficits in temporal order memory induced by interferon-alpha (IFN-α) treatment are rescued by aerobic exercise
Patients receiving cytokine immunotherapy with IFN-α frequently present with neuropsychiatric consequences and cognitive impairments, including a profound depressive-like symptomatology. While the neurobiological substrates of the dysfunction that leads to adverse events in IFN-α-treated patients remains ill-defined, dysfunctions of the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex (PFC) are strong possibilities. To date, hippocampal deficits have been well-characterised; there does however remain a lack of insight into the nature of prefrontal participation. Here, we used a PFC-supported temporal order memory paradigm to examine if IFN-α treatment induced deficits in performance; additionally, we used an object recognition task to assess the integrity of the perirhinal cortex (PRH). Finally, the utility of exercise as an ameliorative strategy to recover temporal order deficits in rats was also explored. We found that IFN-α-treatment impaired temporal order memory discriminations, whereas recognition memory remained intact, reflecting a possible dissociation between recognition and temporal order memory processing. Further characterisation of temporal order memory impairments using a longitudinal design revealed that deficits persisted for 10 weeks following cessation of IFN-α-treatment. Finally, a 6 week forced exercise regime reversed IFN-α-induced deficits in temporal order memory.
These data provide further insight into the circuitry involved in cognitive impairments arising from IFN-α-treatment. Here we suggest that PFC (or the hippocampo-prefrontal pathway) may be compromised whilst the function of the PRH is preserved. Deficits may persist after cessation of IFN-α-treatment which suggests that extended patient monitoring is required. Aerobic exercise may be restorative and could prove beneficial for patients treated with IFN-α
