Kita belajar dan memahami menggunakan bahasa. Bahasa adalah objek dasar yang sangat esensial dalam pemaknaan hidup dan kehidupan. Bahasa bukanlah sekedar dialek dan cara berkomunikasi semata, melainkan juga bagian dari cara hidup kelompok sosial. Bahasa menunjukkan bagaimana seseorang atau sekelompok orang berfikir. Bahasa yang digunakan oleh orang atau kelompok akan meneguhkan identitas seseorang atau kelompok tersebut. Bahasa merupakan sesuatu yang hidup dan dinamis dalam energi dan aktivitas manusia. Bahasa bukanlah sesuatu yang berasal dari luar proses aktivitas, namun dari pemanfaatan organik dan pembangkitan dari daya kreatif manusia, sehingga bahasa merupakan pola dan bentuk yang diasumsikan oleh pikiran manusia. Permasalahan pendidikan bahasa memiliki cakupan yang luas terkait pemahaman makna hasil pikiran, alih ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan seni, komunikasi, penamaan dan aturan-aturan dalam kehidupan
Upaya Peningkatan Sikap Profesional Guru melalui Peningkatan Kebiasaan Membaca
An Attempt to Improve Teachers\u27 Professional Attitudes through Reading Habit Improvement. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the reading habit in increasing the professional attitude of history teachers in senior high schools (SHSs) in Medan City. This was a quasi-experimental study involving history teachers in SHSs in Medan City. The data were collected by using questionnaires, one to measure the level of teachers\u27 reading habit and one to measure the level of teachers\u27 professional attitude. The data were analyzed using the analysis of covariance. The results of this study showed that the average level of teachers\u27 reading habit increased, followed by the increase of the level of teachers\u27 professional attitude. It can be concluded that teachers\u27 condition after the treatment is better. In other words, the reading habit is effective to increase the professional attitude of history teachers in SHSs in Medan City
The effects of metallurgical variables on the mechanical properties of high-chromium cast irons
The.use of high-chromium cast irons for abrasive wear resistance is restricted due to their poor fracture toughness properties. An.attempt was made to improve the fracture characteristics by altering the distribution, size and.shape of the eutectic carbide phase without sacrificing their excellent wear resistance. This was achieved by additions of molybdenum or tungsten followed by high temperature heat treatments. The absence of these alloying elements or replacement of them with vanadium or manganese did not show any significant effect and the continuous eutectic carbide morphology remained the same after application of high temperature heat treatments. The fracture characteristics of the alloys with these metallurgical variables were evaluated for both sharp-cracks and blunt notches. The results were used in conjunction with metallographic and fractographic observations to establish possible failure mechanisms. The fracture mechanism of the austenitic alloys was found to be controlled not only by the volume percent but was also greatly influenced by the size and distribution of the eutectic carbides. On the other hand, the fracture mechanism of martensitic alloys was independent of the eutectic carbide morphology. The uniformity of the secondary carbide precipitation during hardening heat treatments was shown to be a reason for consistant fracture toughness results being obtained with this series of alloys although their eutectic carbide morphologies were different. The collected data were applied to a model which incorporated the microstructural parameters and correlated them with the experimentally obtained valid stress intensity factors. The stress intensity coefficients of different short-bar fracture toughness test specimens were evaluated from analytical and experimental compliance studies. The.validity and applicability of this non-standard testing technique for determination of the fracture toughness of high-chromium cast irons were investigated. The results obtained correlated well with the valid results obtained from standard fracture toughness tests
Tindak Tutur Ilokusi Dalam Upacara Perkawinan Adat Na Gok Batak Toba (Kajian Pragmatik)
Penelitian ini membahas tentang tindak tutur ilokusi yang dituturkan dalam Upacara Perkawinan Adat na Gok Batak Toba, yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui apa saja jenis tindak tutur yang dituturkan dan apa maknanya serta bagaimana bentuk penyampaian tuturannya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif, dan sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah tuturan yang disampaikan dalam acara perkawinan sebagai sumber primer dari raja parhata dan buku dokumentasi sebagai sumber data sekunder.Kajian yang digunakan dalam tuturan ini adalah kajian tindak tutur pragmatik. Dari hasil perolehan data ditemukan sebanyak 42 tuturan ilokusi, tindak tutur representatif 16 tuturan, tindak tutur direktif 17 tuturan, tindak tutur ekspresif 7 tuturan, tindak tutur komisif tidak terdapat dalam tuturan dan tindak tutur deklaratif 2 tuturan. Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Think Talk Write(ttw) Terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Puisioleh Siswa Kelas X SMA Negeri 14medantahun Pembelajaran2015/2016
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaranThink Talk Write (TTW) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan menulis puisi oleh siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 14 Medan tahun pembelajaran 2015/2016 yang berjumlah 40 orang. Sampel penelitian ini adalah sampel yang ditetapkan dari sebagian jumlah populasi yang ada yaitu sebanyak 360 orang siswa.Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimen dengan model one group pre-test and post-test design.Dari pengolahan data yang diperoleh kemampuan menulis puisi sebelum menggunakan model pembelajaran Think Talk Write (TTW)dengan rata-rata 58,87, sedangkan hasil kemampuan menulis puisi setelah menggunakan model pembelajaran Think Talk Write (TTW)diperoleh rata-rata 75,75. Berdasarkan uji ini normalitas hasil sebelum menggunakan model pembelajaran Think Talk Write (TTW) dan sesudah menggunakan model pembelajaran Think Talk Write (TTW) dinyatakan berdistribusi normal. Kemudian, berdasarkan uji homogenitas dinyatakan bahwa sampel berasal dari populasi yang homogen. Setelah uji normalitas dan homogenitas dilakukan diperoleh nilai thitung >ttabel yaitu 7,92> 1,68. Berdasarkan analisis data di atas dapat disimpulkan model pembelajaranThink Talk Write (TTW) berpengaruh positif terhadap kemampuan menulis puisi oleh siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 14 Medan tahun pembelajaran 2015/2016

An analysis of creep crack growth of interface cracks in layered/graded materials
In this study, the growth behavior of interface cracks in bimaterials and in layered materials resulting from the creep cavitation was studied. The growth model includes the effects of material deposition resulting from the growth of creep cavities on the crack tip stress fields. The results indicate that in layered materials under identical applied loading, the location of the interface crack strongly influence the amplitude of the stress field at steady-state. Due to large variation in the distribution of the stresses ahead of the interface cracks at creep regime, depending upon the crack location, the creep crack growth rates will be significantly different from each other under identical loading for a given layered material

Variation of stresses ahead of the internal cracks in ReNi{sub 5} powders during hydrogen charging and discharging cycles
In this study, the evolution of the stress-states ahead of the penny shaped internal cracks in both spherical and disk shaped ReNi{sub 5} particles where Re denotes the rare earths La, Ce, and Misch-metals during hydrogen charging and discharging cycles were investigated using coupled diffusion/deformation FEM analyses. The results indicate that large tensile stresses, on the order of 20--30% of the modulus of elasticity, develop in the particles. The disk shaped particles, in addition to having faster charging/discharging cycles, may offer better resistance to fracture than the spherical particles
Thermodynamics of the Spin Luttinger-Liquid in a Model Ladder Material
The phase diagram in temperature and magnetic field of the metal-organic,
two-leg, spin-ladder compound (C5H12N)2CuBr4 is studied by measurements of the
specific heat and the magnetocaloric effect. We demonstrate the presence of an
extended spin Luttinger-liquid phase between two field-induced quantum critical
points and over a broad range of temperature. Based on an ideal spin-ladder
Hamiltonian, comprehensive numerical modelling of the ladder specific heat
yields excellent quantitative agreement with the experimental data across the

Bound states and field-polarized Haldane modes in a quantum spin ladder
The challenge of one-dimensional systems is to understand their physics
beyond the level of known elementary excitations. By high-resolution neutron
spectroscopy in a quantum spin ladder material, we probe the leading
multiparticle excitation by characterizing the two-magnon bound state at zero
field. By applying high magnetic fields, we create and select the singlet
(longitudinal) and triplet (transverse) excitations of the fully spin-polarized
ladder, which have not been observed previously and are close analogs of the
modes anticipated in a polarized Haldane chain. Theoretical modelling of the
dynamical response demonstrates our complete quantitative understanding of
