Mergers and Typical Black Hole Microstates
We use mergers of microstates to obtain the first smooth horizonless
microstate solutions corresponding to a BPS three-charge black hole with a
classically large horizon area. These microstates have very long throats, that
become infinite in the classical limit; nevertheless, their curvature is
everywhere small. Having a classically-infinite throat makes these microstates
very similar to the typical microstates of this black hole. A rough CFT
analysis confirms this intuition, and indicates a possible class of dual CFT
microstates.
We also analyze the properties and the merging of microstates corresponding
to zero-entropy BPS black holes and black rings. We find that these solutions
have the same size as the horizon size of their classical counterparts, and we
examine the changes of internal structure of these microstates during mergers.Comment: 49 pages, 5 figures. v2 references adde
The propagator for a general form field in
Using the known propagator equations for 0,1 and 2 forms in AdS_{d+1}, we
find the p-form field propagator equations in dimensions where the forms are
Poincare dual. Since the general equation obeyed by the propagators is linear
in dimension, this gives us the equation obeyed by the propagators for any d.
Furthermore, based on the Poincare duality formulas for 0,1,2 and 3 forms we
conjecture the general form of the Poincare duality formulas, and check them
against the previously found propagator equations. The whole structure is
self-consistent. Once we have the equations, we can easily obtain all the
p-form field propagators in AdS_{d+1}. The generalization to massive p-forms
can also be easily done.Comment: Extra chapter added on massive p-forms. 10 pages, REVTE
Bubbles on Manifolds with a U(1) Isometry
We investigate the construction of five-dimensional, three-charge
supergravity solutions that only have a rotational U(1) isometry. We show that
such solutions can be obtained as warped compactifications with a singular
ambi-polar hyper-Kahler base space and singular warp factors. We show that the
complete solution is regular around the critical surface of the ambi-polar
base. We illustrate this by presenting the explicit form of the most general
supersymmetric solutions that can be obtained from an Atiyah-Hitchin base space
and its ambi-polar generalizations. We make a parallel analysis using an
ambi-polar generalization of the Eguchi-Hanson base space metric. We also show
how the bubbling procedure applied to the ambi-polar Eguchi-Hanson metric can
convert it to a global AdS_2xS^3 compactification.Comment: 33 pages, 5 figures, LaTeX; references adde
Non-extremal Black Hole Microstates: Fuzzballs of Fire or Fuzzballs of Fuzz ?
We construct the first family of microstate geometries of near-extremal black
holes, by placing metastable supertubes inside certain scaling supersymmetric
smooth microstate geometries. These fuzzballs differ from the classical black
hole solution macroscopically at the horizon scale, and for certain probes the
fluctuations between various fuzzballs will be visible as thermal noise far
away from the horizon. We discuss whether these fuzzballs appear to infalling
observers as fuzzballs of fuzz or as fuzzballs of fire. The existence of these
solutions suggests that the singularity of non-extremal black holes is resolved
all the way to the outer horizon and this "backwards in time" singularity
resolution can shed light on the resolution of spacelike cosmological
singularities.Comment: 34 pages, 10 figure
Effects of decoherence on the shot noise in carbon nanotubes
We study the zero frequency noise in an interacting quantum wire connected to
leads, in the presence of an impurity. In the absence of quasiparticle
decoherence the zero-frequency noise is that of a non-interacting wire.
However, if the collective, fractionally-charged modes have a finite lifetime,
we find that the zero-frequency noise may still exhibit signatures of charge
fractionalization, such as a small but detectable reduction of the ratio
between the noise and the backscattered current (Fano factor). We argue that
this small reduction of the Fano factor is consistent with recent observations
of a large reduction in the experimentally-inferred Fano factor in nanotubes
(calculated assuming that the backscattered current is the difference between
the ideal current in a multiple-channel non-interacting wire and the measured
current.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur
Persistent anti-brane singularities
Anti-D-branes inserted in warped throat geometries (supported by fluxes that
carry D-brane charges) develop unphysical singularities. It has been argued
that these singularities could be resolved when one goes beyond the linearized
approximation or includes the effects of brane polarization. In this paper we
consider anti-D6 branes, whose singularities have been shown to exist at the
full non-linear level, and demonstrate that there is no D8 brane polarization
that can resolve the singularity. We comment on the potential implications of
this result for the resolution of anti-D3 brane singularities in the
Klebanov-Strassler geometry.Comment: 16 pages; v2: comments added, version to appear in JHE

Black Rings in Taub-NUT
We construct the most generic three-charge, three-dipole-charge, BPS
black-ring solutions in a Taub-NUT background. These solutions depend on seven
charges and six moduli, and interpolate between a four-dimensional black hole
and a five-dimensional black ring. They are also instrumental in determining
the correct microscopic description of the five-dimensional BPS black rings.Comment: 16 pages, harvma
Juvenile Delinquency in Novel Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
The study aimed to reveal the role of literary work, especially a novel in reflecting the social fenomena, the juvenile delinquency in the twentieth century. The data source was an English novel âClockwork Orange\u27 written by Anthony Burgess. The research applied library research by using reflection theory introduced by Georg Lukacs. Analysis was presented in three parts, those were the identification of major character, social setting, and the reflection of juvenile delinquency. The findings were as follows. First, the major character was Alex as his hig intensity in all the events that build the whole story. Second, the social setting described the life of teenagers, especially the juvenile delinquency as social fenomena in society. Third, the role of literary work in revealing the problem above faced by the twentieth century society. Finally, it can be concluded that the literary work has played a very important role in revealing the social fenomena
The Nuts and Bolts of Einstein-Maxwell Solutions
We find new non-supersymmetric solutions of five-dimensional ungauged
supergravity coupled to two vector multiplets. The solutions are regular,
horizonless and have the same asymptotic charges as non-extremal charged black
holes. An essential ingredient in our construction is a four-dimensional
Euclidean base which is a solution to Einstein-Maxwell equations. We construct
stationary solutions based on the Euclidean dyonic Reissner-Nordstrom black
hole as well as a six-parameter family with a dyonic Kerr-Newman-NUT base.
These solutions can be viewed as compactifications of eleven-dimensional
supergravity on a six-torus and we discuss their brane interpretation.Comment: 29 pages, 3 figure
