Vom Seuchen- zum Präventionskörper? Aids und Körperpolitik in der BRD und der Schweiz in den 1980er Jahren

Based on popular media and AIDS education posters from Germany and Switzerland I distinguish two main phases within the history of AIDS in the 1980s and 1990s. The first of them comprises the period from the beginning of the so-called »AIDS crisis« to the mid-1980s, during which AIDS was constructed as a disease of the (sexual) other. In this context of sexist, racist, and classist discourses about »the plague«, a connection of AIDS and male homosexuality came to the fore that was unknown in the 1970s debate on the recurrence of infectious diseases. The second phase began around 1985 when the focus of the AIDS prevention programs was gradually shifted from »risk groups« to »risk behavior« – not least in response to the harsh criticism raised by grassroots groups. This transformation, I argue, came along with a re-subjectivation of the sexually active individual as self-reliant and socially responsible. Furthermore, the emergence of the risk discourse was accompanied by an iconography of a healthy and athletic »prevention body«. Since the early 1990s it increasingly replaced the haggard and diseased »AIDS body« that had dominated the iconography of AIDS throughout the previous decade

The introduction gives a brief overview of the subject of this issue as well as of the individual articles. Particularly, it points to three Aus: <aaspects: First, there is a need for a reevaluation of the concept of Fordism in order to come up to the »consumerist productivism« that was established in the twentieth century. This contributes, second, to a differentiation of the history of productive and consuming bodies within this period. In this regard, some of the articles stress that both, hegemonic discourses and forms of (re-)appropriation and autonomous productions, must be taken into consideration

Die Moderne als Erlebnis. Eine Geschichte der Konsum- und Arbeitsgesellschaft 1840-1940

Spaß und Abwechslungen statt Arbeitsamkeit und Mäßigung: Wie die Menschen um 1900 Berufsleben und Freizeit neu arrangierten. In den Jahrzehnten um 1900 erfuhr der Alltag großer Bevölkerungsteile tiefgreifende Veränderungen. Sie betrafen die Arbeit genauso wie den Konsum. Anhand von rund einhundert Tagebüchern aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum untersucht Peter-Paul Bänziger, wie die Menschen ihren Alltag wahrnahmen. In ihren Augen sollte das Leben vor allem Spaß machen und Abwechslung bringen - in der Freizeit genauso wie am Arbeitsplatz. Zusammen mit Kolleginnen und Kollegen wollte man eine gute Zeit verbringen. Nur noch eine untergeordnete Rolle spielte hingegen der bürgerliche Wert einer allgemeinen Arbeitsamkeit, von dem so viele Tagebücher des 19. Jahrhunderts geprägt waren. In der Freizeit stand die Intensität des Moments im Zentrum. Man suchte angenehme Unterhaltungen, keine wertvollen Kunstgenüsse. Bänziger folgt der Geschichte dieser modernen Erlebnisorientierung. Er gewährt Einblicke in das Denken, Handeln und Fühlen von Menschen aus den unterschiedlichsten Bevölkerungsgruppen und bringt so die »kleinen« historischen Akteurinnen und Akteure ins Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit. Sexuelle Revolution? : zur Sexualitätsgeschichte seit den 1960er Jahren im deutschsprachigen Raum

Was ist von der »Sexuellen Revolution« geblieben? Die Beiträge dieses Bandes fragen nach dem Wandel der Sexualität im deutschsprachigen Raum seit den 1960er Jahren. Anhand von Konzepten wie der Politisierung, Therapeutisierung und Normalisierung der Sexualität sowie der Frage nach ihrer Emotionalisierung, Somatisierung und Ausrichtung am »partnerschaftlichen« Beziehungsideal wird der Erkenntniswert einer an Prozessen orientierten zeithistorischen Forschung sowie der Wissens- und der Körpergeschichte geprüft. Indem die Beiträge den verschiedenen Facetten des »Sexualitätsdispositivs« seit den 1960er Jahren sowie deren teilweise weit zurückreichender Geschichte nachspüren, zielen sie darauf ab, die These von einer »Sexuellen Revolution« historisch und kritisch zu befragen
