Analysis of CLAS data on double charge pion electroproduction
Recent developments in phenomenological analysis of the CLAS data on 2
electroproduction are presented. The contributions from isobar channels and
, electrocouplings at from 0.25 to 0.6
GeV were determined from the analysis of comprehensive data on differential

Multipole Amplitudes of Pion Photoproduction on Nucleons up to 2GeV within Dispersion Relations and Unitary Isobar Model
Two approaches for analysis of pion photo- and electroproduction on nucleons
in the resonance energy region are checked at using the results of
GWU(VPI) partial-wave analysis of photoproduction data. The approaches are
based on dispersion relations and unitary isobar model. Within dispersion
relations good description of photoproduction multipoles is obtained up to
. Within unitary isobar model, modified with increasing energy by
incorporation of Regge poles, and with unified Breit-Wigner parametrization of
resonance contributions, good description of photoproduction multipoles is

Electroexcitation of nucleon resonances
We review recent progress in the investigation of the electroexcitation of
nucleon resonances, both in experiment and in theory. The most accurate results
have been obtained for the electroexcitation amplitudes of the four lowest
excited states, which have been measured in a range of Q2 up to 8 and 4.5 GeV2
for the Delta(1232)P33, N(1535)S11 and N(1440)P11, N(1520)D13}, respectively.
These results have been confronted with calculations based on lattice QCD,
large-Nc relations, perturbative QCD (pQCD), and QCD-inspired models. The
amplitudes for the Delta(1232) indicate large pion-cloud contributions at low
Q2 and don't show any sign of approaching the pQCD regime for Q2<7 GeV2.
Measured for the first time, the electroexcitation amplitudes of the Roper
resonance, N(1440)P11, provide strong evidence for this state as a
predominantly radial excitation of a three-quark (3q) ground state, with
additional non-3-quark contributions needed to describe the low Q2 behavior of
the amplitudes. The longitudinal transition amplitude for the N(1535)S11 was
determined and has become a challenge for quark models. Explanations may
require large meson-cloud contributions or alternative representations of this
state. The N(1520)D13 clearly shows the rapid changeover from helicity-3/2
dominance at the real photon point to helicity-1/2 dominance at Q2 > 0.5 GeV2,
confirming a long-standing prediction of the constituent quark model. The
interpretation of the moments of resonance transition form factors in terms of
transition transverse charge distributions in infinite momentum frame is

Independence of , Poincare Invariance and the Non-Conservation of Helicity
A relativistic constituent quark model is found to reproduce the recent data
regarding the ratio of proton form factors, . We show that
imposing Poincare invariance leads to substantial violation of the helicity
conservation rule, as well as an analytic result that the ratio

Physics Opportunities with the 12 GeV Upgrade at Jefferson Lab
This white paper summarizes the scientific opportunities for utilization of
the upgraded 12 GeV Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) and
associated experimental equipment at Jefferson Lab. It is based on the 52
proposals recommended for approval by the Jefferson Lab Program Advisory
Committee.The upgraded facility will enable a new experimental program with
substantial discovery potential to address important topics in nuclear,

The Role of Color Neutrality in Nuclear Physics--Modifications of Nucleonic Wave Functions
The influence of the nuclear medium upon the internal structure of a
composite nucleon is examined. The interaction with the medium is assumed to
depend on the relative distances between the quarks in the nucleon consistent
with the notion of color neutrality, and to be proportional to the nucleon
density. In the resulting description the nucleon in matter is a superposition
of the ground state (free nucleon) and radial excitations. The effects of the
nuclear medium on the electromagnetic and weak nucleon form factors, and the
nucleon structure function are computed using a light-front constituent quark
model. Further experimental consequences are examined by considering the
electromagnetic nuclear response functions. The effects of color neutrality
supply small but significant corrections to predictions of observables.Comment: 37 pages, postscript figures available on request to

Pion electro-production in the Roper region in chiral quark models
We present a method to calculate pion electro-production amplitudes in a
coupled-channel framework incorporating quasi-bound quark-model states. The
method offers a clear prescription how to extract the resonant part of the
amplitudes, even in the presence of different decay channels and a strong
mixing of neighbouring resonances. The method is applied to the calculation of
the M1- and the S1- amplitudes in the P11 partial wave in a simple chiral quark
model. A good agreement with the observed M1- amplitude is found with a
significant contribution from the pion cloud. The same effect is also prominent
in the S1- amplitude but a rather uncertain data prevent us to draw a
definitive conclusion.Comment: 8 pages, 10 Postscript figures, Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 change
State sampling dependence of the Hopfield network inference
The fully connected Hopfield network is inferred based on observed
magnetizations and pairwise correlations. We present the system in the glassy
phase with low temperature and high memory load. We find that the inference
error is very sensitive to the form of state sampling. When a single state is
sampled to compute magnetizations and correlations, the inference error is
almost indistinguishable irrespective of the sampled state. However, the error
can be greatly reduced if the data is collected with state transitions. Our
result holds for different disorder samples and accounts for the previously
observed large fluctuations of inference error at low temperatures.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, further discussions added and relevant references

P-wave excited baryons from pion- and photo-induced hyperon production
We report evidence for , , ,
, , and , and find
indications that might have a companion state at 1970\,MeV. The
controversial is not seen. The evidence is derived from a
study of data on pion- and photo-induced hyperon production, but other data are
included as well. Most of the resonances reported here were found in the
Karlsruhe-Helsinki (KH84) and the Carnegie-Mellon (CM) analyses but were
challenged recently by the Data Analysis Center at GWU. Our analysis is
constrained by the energy independent scattering amplitudes from either
KH84 or GWU. The two amplitudes from KH84 or GWU, respectively, lead to
slightly different branching ratios of contributing resonances but the

Pion photoproduction on the nucleon in the quark model
We present a detailed quark-model study of pion photoproduction within the
effective Lagrangian approach. Cross sections and single-polarization
observables are investigated for the four charge channels, , , , and .
Leaving the coupling strength to be a free parameter, we obtain a
reasonably consistent description of these four channels from threshold to the
first resonance region. Within this effective Lagrangian approach, strongly
constrainted by the quark model, we consider the issue of double-counting which
