    A highly efficient broadband multi-functional metaplate

    Due to the considerable potential of ultra-compact and highly integrated meta-optics, multi-functional metasurfaces have attracted great attention. The mergence of nanoimprinting and holography is one of the fascinating study areas for image display and information masking in meta-devices. However, existing methods rely on layering and enclosing, where many resonators combine various functions effectively at the expense of efficiency, design complication, and complex fabrication. To overcome these limitations, a novel technique for a tri-operational metasurface has been suggested by merging PB phase-based helicity-multiplexing and Malus\u27s law of intensity modulation. To the best of our knowledge, this technique resolves the extreme-mapping issue in a single-sized scheme without increasing the complexity of the nanostructures. For proof of concept, a multi-functional metasurface built of single-sized zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanobricks is developed to demonstrate the viability of simultaneous control of near and far-field operations. The proposed metasurface successfully verifies the implementation of a multi-functional design strategy with conventional single-resonator geometry by reproducing two high-fidelity images in the far field and projecting one nanoimprinting image in the near field. This makes the proposed information multiplexing technique a potential candidate for many high-end and multi-fold optical storage, information-switching, and anti-counterfeiting applications

    Epidemiological Data of Neurological Disorders in Pakistan and Neighboring Countries: A Review

    Neurological disorders are the impairments of nervous system and are an important and growing cause of morbidity, mortality, and disability. In addition to health costs, those suffering from these conditions are also frequently victimized of stigmatization and discrimination. Stigmatization further minimizes the patients\u27 access to treatment and social activities. These disorders, therefore, require special attention particularly in developing countries where unfortunately, the burden of these disorders remains largely unrecognized. Moreover, the burden imposed by such chronic neurological conditions in general can be expected to be particularly devastating in poor populations. These conditions are emerging as severe public health concerns in the developing countries due to the facts such as unawareness, Illiteracy, large numbers of people who are untreated, and unavailability of inexpensive but effective interventions. Regrettably, reliable population-based data from developing countries including Pakistan on the epidemiology of neurological disorders are extremely limited. Although, some information on epidemiological aspects of neurological diseases are available from some developing countries (Pakistan, Iran, India, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia and China) but disease prevalence and pattern are based on geographical, social, cultural, religious, and ethnic factors.     Morphological and molecular characterization of Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus spp.)

    Mushrooms have medicinal as well as nutritive value and extensively used as human food from the time immortal. In order to determine the genetic diversity among Pleurotus species of mushroom using morphological and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers, about seven different species were collected. Five species, naming Pleurotus platypus (P-6), Pleurotus flabelatus (P-7), Pleurotus florida (P-17), Pleurotus ostreatus (P-19) and Pleurotus sajor-caju (P-56) were from Canada and two Pleurotus warm-stram (P-9) and Pleurotus eryngii (P-16) from Philpines. Seven different morphological traits that is, mycelial growth (mm), cap diameter (cm), total yield (kg), moisture contents (%), ash contents (%), nitrogen contents (%) and protein content (%) were recorded. The dendrogram based on morphological data divided seven species in cluster ‘A’ and ‘B’ having four and three species, respectively. The dendrogram based on RAPD analysis generated 3 clusters ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’. Out of 14 random primers, the maximum polymorphism was observed by primers OPL3 (72.70 %) and OPL11 (70%). The two species P-56 and P-17 were observed to be most similar having value 86% and constituting a cluster ‘A’.     Duty-Cycle Based Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) for Hardware Security Applications

    Duty cycle and frequency are important characteristics of periodic signals that are exploited to develop a variety of application circuits in IC design. Controlling the duty cycle and frequency provides a method to develop adaptable circuits for a variety of applications. These applications range from stable on-chip clock generation circuits, on-chip voltage regulation circuits, and Physical unclonable functions for hardware security applications. Ring oscillator circuits that are developed with CMOS inverter circuits provide a simple, versatile flexible method to generated periodic signals on an IC chip. A digitally controlled ring oscillator circuit can be adapted to control its duty cycle and frequency. This work describes a novel current starved ring oscillator, with digitally controlled current source based headers and footers, that is used to provide a versatile duty cycle and a precise frequency control. Using this novel circuit, the duty cycle and frequency can be adapted to a wide range of values. The proposed circuit achieves i) a controlled duty cycle that can vary between 20% and 90% with a high granularity and ii) a compensation circuit that guarantees a constant duty cycle under process, voltage, and temperature (PVT) variations. A novel application of the proposed PWM circuit is the design and demonstration of a reliable and reconfigurable Duty-cycle based Physical unclonable function (PUF). The proposed PWM based PUF circuit is demonstrated to work in a reliable and stable operation for a variety of process, voltage and temperature conditions with circuit implementations using 22nm and 32nm CMOS technologies. A comparative presentation of the duty cycle based PUF are provided using standard PUF figures of merits

    Background: To evaluate the Door to needle time andits impact on successful thrombolysis .Methods : In this cross sectional study all patientsadmitted with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI), whowere candidates for fibrinolysis, were included.Streptokinase 1.5 million units i.v was given over one hourto all the patients. Door to needle time was calculated.Successful thrombolysis was considered as resolution ofchest pain with 70 % ST-segment resolution 60–90 minutesafter thrombolysis.Results : Ninety four patients with acute myocardialinfarction eligible for thrombolysis were givenintravenous streptokinase.Majority (87.2%)were male.Successful thrombolysis was attained in 62.9% ,amongthose who received streptokinase within 30 minutes ofonset of pain and in 16.7% of those who receivedstreptokinase after more than 30 minutesConclusion: Timing of streptokinase infusion afterfirst medical contact is an important predictor of successfulthrombolysis

    Diagnostic accuracy of TI-RADS classification in differentiating benign and malignant thyroid nodules-a study from Southern Punjab, Pakistan

    Background and Objective: Thyroid imaging reporting and data system (TI-RADS) is developed to determine the risk of malignancy in patients with thyroid nodules. The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of TI-RADS classification for diagnosing malignant thyroid nodules taking Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) as a gold standard in the local population. Methods: In this cross-sectional validation study, 201 patients presenting with thyroid nodules at the Department of Radiology, Bakhtawar Amin Hospital Multan, Pakistan from July 2020 to December 2020 were included. In all patients, thyroid nodules were evaluated on grey scale (B-mode) modality. TI-RADS score was calculated for each patient. Patients with TI-RADS score 4 and 5 were labelled as having malignant nodules. After that FNAC samples were taken and sent for histopathologic evaluation of thyroid nodules. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of TI-RADS taking FNAC as a gold standard were determined. Results: The mean age of the patients was 47.8 &plusmn; 4.5 years; there were 129 (67.2%) women and 72 (35.82%) men. There were 42 patients who tested true positive and 36 patients tested false positive and 12 patients were false negative and 111 patients true negative. The TIRADS sensitivity was 77.8%, specificity was 75.5%, PPV was 53.8%, and NPV 90.2%. the diagnostic accuracy was 76.1%. Conclusion: Differentiating benign thyroid nodules from malignant using the TI-RADS score has a high diagnostic accuracy. Our study results support the TIRADS as a first-line imaging evaluation for diagnosis of thyroid malignancy.</p

    Abstract Brain is a vital organ of the human body which performs very important functions such as analysis, processing, coordination, and execution of electrical signals. For this purpose, it depends on a complex network of nerves which are ensheathed in lipids tailored myelin; an abundant source of lipids in the body. The nervous system is enriched with important classes of lipids; sphingolipids and cholesterol which compose the major portion of the brain particularly in the form of myelin. Both cholesterol and sphingolipids are embedded in the microdomains of membrane rafts and are functional units of the neuronal cell membrane. These molecules serve as the signaling molecules; hold important roles in the neuronal differentiation, synaptogenesis, and many others. Thus, their adequate provision and active metabolism are of crucial importance in the maintenance of physiological functions of brain and body of an individual. In the present review, we have highlighted the physiological roles of cholesterol and sphingolipids in the development of the nervous system as well as the association of their altered metabolism to neurological and neurodegenerative diseases

    A central thesis of this paper is that social science is the study of human experience, and hence is strongly conditioned by history. Modern Western political, economic and social structures have emerged as a consequence of the repudiation of religion associated with the Enlightenment and are based on secular principles. Many of these are inimical to Islamic principles, and cannot be adapted to an Islamic society. Muslim societies achieved freedom from colonial rule in the first half of the twentieth century and have sought to construct institutions in conformity with Islam. The development of Islamic economics is part of this process of transition away from Western colonial institutions.
