In this cross-sectional study of 278 patients, patients diagnosed with COVID-19 per their clinical features, laboratory, and thorax computed tomography (CT) findings were evaluated in terms of the most common characteristic findings. The lesions were classified according to the disease stage. The most common findings for each phase were investigated. The typical CT results included ground glass opacity (GGO), unilateral involvement, and single lesions in the early stages, as well as bilateral involvement, and multiple lesions in the progressive and peak phases. Additionally, vascular dilatation was the most common finding after GGO. Basal segment dominance and peripheral-intraparenchymal-basal segment involvement were mostly seen in the peak-phase patients. Thus, we think that this finding is an essential key to determining that the disease is in the advanced stages. The crazy-paving pattern was also a typical finding in the early-stage patients. Cavitary lesions, pulmonary nodules, and mediastinal lymph nodes were not observed in the lungs

Purpose: Thrombotic complications have been reported in up to 30% of patients admitted to the intensive care unit for COVID-19. However, data on hemodialysis access failure in patients with COVID-19 are limited. This study aimed to investigate the frequency of hemodialysis access failure and its determinants, especially with respect to COVID-19 status. Materials and Methods: This multi-center cross-sectional study was conducted among subjects undergoing permanent hemodialysis. Patients were divided into two groups, those with and without access failure. The primary outcome measures of the study were differences in patient characteristics, laboratory measurements and COVID-19 positivity between the two groups. The secondary outcome measure was defined as the identification of factors independently associated with hemodialysis access failure. Results: Hemodialysis access failure occurred in 26 (12.2%) patients. Type 2 diabetes (76.9% [n=20] vs. 50% [n=93], p=0.018), hypotension during dialysis (88.5 [n=23] vs. 58.1% [n=108], p=0.006) and COVID-19 positivity (73.1% [n=19] vs. 15.1% [n=28], p<0.001) were significantly more frequent among patients with access failure. Multivariable logistic regression showed that all three factors were independently associated with a higher likelihood of hemodialysis access failure. Conclusion: Hemodialysis access failure is encountered more frequently in patients with COVID-19 compared to those without COVID-19

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence, etiology and obstetric outcomes of rupture in unscarreduterine rupture and in those with a history of uterine ruptureMaterial and methods: The hospital records of women who had delivered between May 2005 and May 2017 at a tertiarycenter were examined retrospectively. Data on patients with unscarred uterine rupture in pregnancy who had undergonefertility-preserving surgery were evaluated. Results: During the study period, 185,609 deliveries occurred. Of those, unscarred uterine rupture has occurred in67 women. There were no ruptures reported in nulliparous women. The rupture was observed in the isthmic region in60 (89.6%) patients and in the fundus in 7 (10.4%) patients. Thirty-eight (56.7%) patients had undergone a total or subtotalhysterectomy, and 29 (43.3%) patients had received primary repair. Ten patients had reconceived after the repair. Of these, eight patients who had a history of isthmic rupture, successfully delivered by elective C-section at 36–37 wk. of gestation, and two experienced recurrent rupture at 33 and 34 wk. of gestation, respectively. Both patients had a history of fundalrupture, and their inter-pregnancy interval was 9 and 11 mo., respectively. Conclusions: The incidence of rupture in unscarred pregnant uteri was found to be one per 2,770 deliveries. Owing to thehigh morbidity, regarding more than half of the cases with rupture eventuated in hysterectomy, clinicians should be prudentin induction of labour for multiparous women since it was the main cause of rupture in this series. Short inter-pregnancyintervals and history of fundal rupture may confer a risk for rupture recurrence. Those risk factors for recurrence should bevalidated in another studies

Comparison of Artificial Bee Colony Algorithms on Engineering Problems

    No full text
Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm is a swarm intelligence based recent optimization technique that mimics from real bee colonies. After the initial proposal of ABC, several variants of original algorithm have been proposed like as other optimization algorithms. Although performances of well-known ABC algorithms are known and comparison works exist on benchmark test functions, the real performance of these algorithms are not known on engineering problems. In this paper, several ABC algorithms are reviewed and compared on three different engineering optimization problems using default parameter settings and tuned parameter settings. Moreover, the best ABC variants obtained from experimental results are compared with contemporary algorithms in literature. The results have shown that ABC algorithms are also competitive with recent state-of-the-art algorithms on engineering problems
