Introduction: COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-Cov-2 virus is characterized by clinical spectra of varying severity. Coagulopathy and inflammation are the most important factors associated with COVID-19 severity. The use of a biomarker of inflammation and coagulation factors has not yet been clarified. The present study aimed to examine the role of CRP/Albumin, an inflammation marker, in predicting the course of COVID-19 disease. Methods: The Demographic, laboratory, and prognosis of 457 patients who were hospitalized during the COVID-19 pandemic service between April and May 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The relationship between the patients' CRP/Albumin ratio and disease severity, length of hospital stays, and prognosis were analyzed. Results: The rate of hospitalization in the intensive care unit was 10.5% (n=48), mechanical ventilation was 8.1% (n=37), and death was 1.3% (n=6). The CRP/albumin ratio was statistically higher in those with lung infiltration (p=0.005), those who were taken to the intensive care unit (p lt;0.001), and those who needed mechanical ventilation (p lt;0.001). A positive significant correlation was found between the length of hospital stay and the CRP/albumin ratio(r=0.412, p lt; 0.001).Conclusion: The CRP/Albumin ratio is thought to be an auxiliary marker for doctors in the early transfer of patients to the intensive care unit, the early detection of those in need of MV, and the determination of lung infiltration. Keywords: COVID-19, CRP/albumin ratio, prognosi

Health institutions use the accreditation process to achieve improvement across the organization and management of the health care system. An ISO 15189 quality and efficiency standard is the recommended standard for medical laboratories qualification. The "safety and accommodation conditions" of this standard covers the requirement to improve working conditions and maintain the necessary safety precautions. The most inevitable precaution for ensuring a safe environment is the creation of a clean and orderly environment to maintain a potentially safe surroundings. In this context, the 5S application which is a superior improvement tool that has been used by the industry, includes some advantages such as encouraging employees to participate in and to help increase the productivity. The main target of this study was to implement 5S methods in a clinical laboratory of a university hospital for evaluating its effect on employees' satisfaction, and correction of non-compliance in terms of the working environment. To start with, first, 5S education was given to management and employees. Secondly, a 5S team was formed and then the main steps of 5S (Seiri: Sort, Seiton: Set in order, Seiso: Shine, Seiketsu: Standardize, and Shitsuke: Systematize) were implemented for a duration of 3 months. A five-point likert scale questionnaire was used in order to determine and assess the impact of 5S on employees' satisfaction considering the areas such as facilitating the job, the job satisfaction, setting up a safe environment, and the effect of participation in management. Questionnaire form was given to 114 employees who actively worked during the 5S implementation period, and the data obtained from 63 (52.3%) participants (16 male, 47 female) were evaluated. The reliability of the questionnaire's Cronbach's alpha value was determined as 0.858 (p< 0.001). After the implementation of 5S it was observed and determined that facilitating the job and setting up a safe environment created a statistically significant effect on employees, and some sufficient satisfaction was observed. In addition, the non-conformity score, which was identified in the laboratory during the previous years, was significantly reduced at a rate of 69.7% after the implementation of 5S. 5S practices have successfully contributed to the establishment and to the sustainability of laboratory safety systems in the first public ISO 15189 accredited public clinical laboratory in Turkey. It is concluded that 5S methods can be used as an effective improvement tool in order to maintain a safe environment, to facilitate the job, and to encourage employees to participate in the management process

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the possible protective effects of gilaburu (Viburnum opulus L., Glb) fruit extract on testis and sperm damages induced by docetaxel (DTX) and paclitaxel (PTX) chemotherapeutics in rats. Sixty adult male Wistar albino rats were divided into 6 equal groups, 10 animals each. The groups were created as control (weekly i.p. saline injection), Glb (weekly i.p. saline injection and daily oral 100 mg/kg Glb), DTX (weekly i.p. injection of 5 mg/kg DTX), PTX (weekly i.p. injection of 4 mg/kg PTX), DTX + Glb (weekly i.p. injection of 5 mg/kg DTX and daily oral 100 mg/kg Glb) and PTX + Glb (weekly i.p. injection of 4 mg/kg PTX and daily oral 100 mg/kg Glb). Following 10-week chronic application, spermatological, biochemical, histopathological, cytopathological and immunohistochemical examinations were performed. DTX and PTX caused significant decreases in absolute and relative weights of all reproductive organs, testosterone level, sperm motility, concentration, Bcl-2 anti-apoptotic immunopositive cell scores of testes and spermatozoa as well as catalase activity in epididymal tissue, superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities of testicular and epididymal tissues when compared with the control group. Both drugs also significantly increased abnormal sperm rate, testicular and epididymal malondialdehyde level, Bax pro-apoptotic immunopositive cell scores of testes and spermatozoa, and caused remarkable testicular histological and cytological damages. However, Glb consumption mitigated the PTX-induced decreases in absolute weights of epididimis, seminal vesicles, ventral prostate and both taxanes-induced disturbances in sperm characteristics, imbalances in oxidant/antioxidant system, increments in germ cell apoptosis and testicular histo-and cyto-pathological damages. It was concluded that long-term Glb consumption alleviates the taxanes-induced damages in reproductive system of male rats
