    A research on Kirghiz students’ before and after their internship period about perceptions of Turkey

    Among Turkic speaking countries there is solidarity in economic, political and military fields. Moreover, they carry out common studies within the universities of these countries. As a result, the relationship among the communities is getting stronger via these studies. This research serves as an example of this development. The problem sentence of the research; “Do students’ perceptions change about Turkey after they’ve completed an internship period in Turkey?”. In this research, it was studied to determine Kyrgyz students’ impression about our country Turkey, before and after their intership period in Turkey. The study was implemented within the survey model design. Research’s universe is the students who study in Yusuf Balasagun Krygyz National University, Liberal Arts University (Bugu), in Kyrgyzstan Turkey Manas University during their education in the year of 2018-2019. As for the research sampling, students who are in the city of Antalya for the purpose of internship were selected from Yusuf Balasagun Kyrgyz National University, Liberal Arts University (Bugu), in Kyrgyzstan Manas University. A total of 49 students were attented the research. According to the results of the research; internship students have generally positive opinions about Turkey and Turkish people. This is pleasing result for our country. The students think that the Language Enhancement Program will be useful for them to learn Turkish better

    EFFECT OF BIOMASS AT DIFFERENT GROWTH STAGE ON GRAIN YIELD AND QUALITY IN BREAD WHEAT (Triticum aestivum L.) GENOTYPES

    The aim of this research was to determine the effects of location, genotypes and the interaction of location x genotypes on biomass, canopy temperature, yield and some of the quality traits of the bread wheat genotypes under field conditions. Thus, it was established with 25 genotypes in randomized completely blocks design with 4 replications at 3 locations in Trakya Region, Turkey, in 2013-2014 growing season. Grain yield, biomass, canopy temperature, plant height, 1000-kernel weight, test weight, and relationship among these characters were investigated. For determining biomass of the genotypes, data was taken at three plant growth stages; tillering, shooting and heading. Combined analysis of variance across three locations revealed highly significant variation among wheat genotypes for grain yield, biomass of stem elongation, heading stage and canopy temperature. The mean yield of the genotypes was 723.0 kg da-1, and the highest yields were obtained from Entry 22 with 826.3 kg da-1. The highest biomass was scaled in Entry-9 during threeplant growth stages. Additionally, a positive correlation was observed between grain yield and biomass in tillering, shooting, and heading growth stages of the genotypes. These results indicated that higher biomass at early plant growth stage was more significant for yield potential. There was detected slightly negative relationship between canopy temperature and biomass, and grain yield. It could be that the canopy temperatures of genotypes were measured lower during the increasing of biomass in plant development. During tillering stage, higher biomass promoted to plant height and positively affected protein ratio, values of gluten and sedimentation. In shooting phase of genotypes, biomass positively affected and increased in 1000-kernel weight, protein ratio, gluten value and sedimentation value, as well. But increasing in biomass during heading stage, negatively affected and decreased in canopy temperature, 1000-kernel weight, test weight, protein ratio, gluten index and sedimentation value

    DIFFERING IN AGRONOMIC AND QUALITY CHARACTERS IN SOME BACKCROSS–DERIVED LINES IN BREAD WHEAT (Triticum aestivum L.) GENOTYPES

    The backcrossing method remains an efficient tool for transferring genes into established crop varieties. In this study; we were focused on evaluating the selected some backcross lines for yield, grain-quality traits and some agronomic traits under field condition. The experiment was conducted using 15 genotypes in randomized completely blocks design with four replications in Trakya ARI experimental field, during 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 growing years. Grain yield, days of heading and maturing, plant height and some quality parameters and relationship among these parameters were investigated. According to results, there was statistically difference among genotypes in terms of yield and other investigated characters, except for 1000-kernel weight, test weight. Grain yields decreased in Pehlivan, Aldane, Tekirdağ and Dropia backcross lines. It was determined that TKW increased in the backcross derived lines of the Gelibolu, Dropia and Prostor, gluten value increased in Pehlivan and Tekirdağ cultivars. Backcross line for gluten index of the Pehlivan, Aldane, Gelibolu, Prostor and Dropia cultivars highly increased compared with other components. Sedimentation values of the backcross lines of cultivars decreased in Prostor and increased in Pehlivan, Gelibolu and Dropia. The strongly negative correlations were measured between grain yield and days of maturing (r=-0.689**), plant height (r=-0.655**), and lodging resistant (r=-0.743**). Also, grain yield was negatively correlated with protein ratio (r=-0.608*), gluten value (r=-0.541*), and days of heading (r=-0.607*). The negative correlations were found between grain yield and 1000-kernel weight, test weight, hardness, sedimentation, and winter-kill, as well. The strong positive correlations were measured between protein ratio and gluten, hardness, sedimentation, days of heading and maturing, plant height, and lodging resistant. Grain hardness in genotypes increased with the extension of maturation period of the genotypes.     Analysis of post-migration traumatic events influence on immigrants and their personality traits

    OBJECTIVES: This study aims to analyse the way immigrants and their personality traits get affected by traumatic events in the post-migration process. METHODS: This descriptive study was conducted through Google Forms with the involvement of 2,509 immigrants. A descriptive questionnaire, the "IFOMA Post-Migration Post-Traumatic Effect Scale" and the "GADOT Personality Types Determination Scale" were used to collect the research data. Independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and related sample Friedman's two-way analysis tests were used in data analysis. RESULTS: Immigrants were exposed to significant effects in all sub-dimensions of the Post-Migration Post-Traumatic Effect Scale. Experiencing post-traumatic stress was found to be significantly related to the research parameters, which, respectively, are gender, age, marital status, educational background, legal status, years of living in the current country, employment status, ethnicity, Turkish language proficiency, and post-migration psychological problems (p < 0.05); 42.8% of the immigrants had the Type 9 personality, and all personality types were affected by the Psychological Affection, Physical Affection, Anxiety, and Social Adaptation sub-dimensions, respectively (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: By analysing the impact of migration-induced trauma on immigrants within their society, it can be recommended to implement initiatives specific to immigrants' personality traits and to carry out protective/preventive projects that will minimize immigrants' exposure to trauma and encourage their participation in social adaptation processes

    Evaluation of hydrogen production by Clostridium strains on beet molasses

    Clostridium acetobutylicum DSM 792, C. acetobutylicum DSM 1731 and two newly isolated bacteria defined as the members of genus Clostridium - based on the 16S rRNA analysis and biochemical traits - were characterized with regard to their hydrogen production in media containing increasing beet molasses concentrations. The highest hydrogen yield was observed for C. acetobutylicum DSM 792 with a yield of 2.8 mol H-2 mol(-1) hexose in medium including 60 g L-1 molasses. This bacterium also produced the maximum amount of hydrogen (5908.8 mL L-1) at the same molasses concentration. A slightly lower hydrogen yield was measured for C. acetobutylicum DSM 1731 (2.5 mol H-2 mol(-1) hexose) when grown on 40 g L-1 molasses. The new isolates Clostridium roseum C and Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum PF produced hydrogen with yields of 2.0 mol H-2 mol(-1) hexose at 40 and 60 g L-1 molasses and 2.1 mol H-2 mol(-1) hexose at 40 g L-1 molasses, respectively

    Dilute sulfuric acid pretreatment of corn stover for enzymatic hydrolysis and efficient ethanol production by recombinant Escherichia coli FBR5 without detoxification

    A pretreatment strategy for dilute H2SO4 pretreatment of corn stover was developed for the purpose of reducing the generation of inhibitory substances during pretreatment so that a detoxification step is not required prior to fermentation while maximizing sugar yield. The optimal conditions for pretreatment of corn stover (10%, w/v) were: 0.75% H2SO4, 160 degrees C, and 0-5 min holding time. The conditions were chosen based on maximum glucose release after enzymatic hydrolysis, minimum loss of pentose sugars and minimum formation of sugar degradation products such as furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural. The pretreated corn stover after enzymatic saccharification generated 63.2 +/- 2.2 and 63.7 +/- 2.3 g total sugars per L at 0 and 5 min holding time, respectively. Furfural production was 0.45 +/- 0.1 and 0.87 +/- 0.4 g/L, respectively. The recombinant Escherichia coli strain FBR5 efficiently fermented non-detoxified corn stover hydrolyzate if the furfural content is <0.5 g/L. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

    High temperature dilute phosphoric acid pretreatment of corn stover for furfural and ethanol production

    Furfural was produced from corn stover by one stage pretreatment process using dilute H3PO4 and solid residues following furfural production were used for ethanol production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae NRRL-Y2034. A series of experiments were conducted at varied temperatures (140-200 degrees C) and acid doses (0.0-2.0%, v/v) in order to determine optimal conditions. The effects of time (5-25 min) and substrate concentration (5-15%, w/w) on furfural production were determined at optimal temperature (200 degrees C) and acid dose (0.75%, v/v). Maximum furfural yield (10.8 +/- 0.3 g/100 g stover) was achieved at 20-25 min duration with 5% (w/w) corn stover which corresponds to 61.6% of the potential yield. About 74% of the glucan content of corn stover was converted to glucose after enzymatic digestion of solid residues. S. cerevisiae NRRL-Y2034 fermented glucose from the solid residues efficiently to ethanol. It produced 0.47-0.50 g ethanol per g glucose which corresponds to 92-99% of the theoretical yield.     Response surface optimization of corn stover pretreatment using dilute phosphoric acid for enzymatic hydrolysis and ethanol production

    Dilute H3PO4 (0.0-2.0%, v/v) was used to pretreat corn stover (10%, w/w) for conversion to ethanol. Pretreatment conditions were optimized for temperature, acid loading, and time using central composite design. Optimal pretreatment conditions were chosen to promote sugar yields following enzymatic digestion while minimizing formation of furans, which are potent inhibitors of fermentation. The maximum glucose yield (85%) was obtained after enzymatic hydrolysis of corn stover pretreated with 0.5% (v/v) acid at 180 degrees C for 15 min while highest yield for xylose (91.4%) was observed from corn stover pretreated with 1% (v/v) acid at 160 degrees C for 10 min. About 26.4 +/- 0.1 g ethanol was produced per L by recombinant Escherichia coli strain FBR5 from 55.1 +/- 1.0 g sugars generated from enzymatically hydrolyzed corn stover (10%, w/w) pretreated under a balanced optimized condition (161.81 degrees C, 0.78% acid, 9.78 min) where only 0.4 +/- 0.0 g furfural and 0.1 +/- 0.0 hydroxylmethyl furfural were produced.
