The readiness among the polytechnic engineering and non-engineering lecturers towards implementation of 4C in teaching

    Get PDF
The paper discusses the readiness level of the 4C polytechnics lecturer (creative, critical, communication & collaboration) from the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains. By using questionnaires as an instrument, this research employed the survey as research design. A total of 332 lecturers in polytechnics were randomly selected randomly as respondents. The results show that polytechnic lecturers tend to have a high level of readiness for 4C for all three domains. Findings also show that, except for the psychomotor and affective domain, there is no substantial difference in cognitive domain for 4C between engineering and non-engineering lecturers. In short, the preparation of 4C skills among the polytechnic lecturers is necessary to ensure that graduates are successful in today's workplace

Mentoring approach in learning fundamentals of Islamic banking / Noor Saliza Zainal ...[et al.]

This paper reviews the mentoring approach and its application at the learning institutions. Basically, mentoring approach is defined as a teaching method which involves a transfer of wisdom, where the mentor or coach provides advice or direction, probably based on their experience and expertise. Practically, often one selected student in the group is assigned to conduct learning relationship for understanding to other students. Currently, many courses taught at the universities are based on the traditional approach of teaching and learning. But, since there are many topics to be delivered for each course, some students might have problems in understanding each topic in depth. In addition to that, the lecturers also might not have enough time to clarify every topic thoroughly in class. Due to this problem, the group propose a mentoring approach as a supplementary approach of learning at the universities. In this study, we examine the perceptions on mentoring approach in learning of Fundamentals of Islamic Banking (CTU351) amongst the students at Universiti Teknologi MARA Kelantan, Machang campus. The objectives of this study have twofold. First, to determine the difference in mean perception on mentoring approach in learning Fundamentals of Islamic Banking across selected students’ profiles. Secondly is to identify the factors affecting the perception on learning of Fundamentals of Islamic Banking. The results of the study show that many students do not have Mentor during their studies. Next, the study also found that their perceptions on mentoring approach do not significantly differ across gender, accommodation and mentor. Lastly, the results also prove that there is a positive correlation between Classroom with Outside Classroom and Surroundings in determining the learning of Fundamentals of Islamic Bankin

Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis in determining the saliva protein of orthodontic patients during retention phase

The biological responses involved during retention phase have been studied for many years but little is known about the effect of saliva proteome during retention phase of post-orthodontic treatment. This study aims to identify the protein profiles during retention phase in relation to biological processes involved by Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) approach. A total of 5 ml of unstimulated saliva was collected from each subject (10 non-orthodontic patients and 15 post-orthodontic patients with 6-months retention phase). Samples were then subjected to LC-MS analysis. The expressed proteins were identified and compared between groups. Incisor irregularity for both maxilla and mandible were determined with Little?s Irregularity Index at 6-months retention phase. 146 proteins and 135 proteins were expressed in control and 6-months retention phase group respectively. 15 proteins were identified to be co-expressed between groups. Immune system process was only detected in 6-months retention phase group. Detected protein in immune system process was identified as Tyrosine-protein kinase Tec. Statistical significant of incisor irregularity was only found in mandible at 6-months retention phase. Our study suggests that immune system process protein which is Tyrosine-protein kinase Tec could be used as biomarker for prediction of stability during retention phase of post-orthodontic treatment

Water absorption behaviour of epoxy/acrylated epoxidized palm oil (AEPO) reinforced hybrid kenaf/glass fiber montmorillonite (HMT) composites

The use of fiber-reinforced vegetable oil - polymer composites has increased in various technical fields. However, the long-term operating performance of these materials is still not well understood, limiting the development of these composites. In this study, the water absorption performance of hybrid composites, which consist of kenaf fiber and glass fiber as reinforcement, epoxy resin and acrylated epoxidized palm oil (AEPO) as a matrix, and montmorillonite (MMT) nano clays as a filler was evaluated with the function of different fibers layering order. The hand lay-up method is used to produce the composites with the variable number of kenaf fibers and glass fibers layer sequences. The water absorption kinetics of epoxy/AEPO reinforced hybrid kenaf/glass fiber-filled MMT composites are described in this paper. It has been observed that the water absorption rate of the composites depends on the fiber layering sequences. The alternative sequence of Glass-Kenaf-Kenaf-Glass and Kenaf-Glass-Kenaf-Glass composites layers exhibited the lowest moisture absorption rates of 7.61% and 7.63%, respectively
