The present paper aims to present a series of experiences and experimentations that a group of PhD from the University of Naples Federico II conducted over the past decade. This work has concerned the survey and the graphic restitution of monuments and works of art, finalized to their conservation. The targeted query of complex point cloud acquired by 3D scanners, integrated with photo sensors and thermal imaging, has allowed to explore new possibilities of investigation. In particular, we will present the scientific results of the experiments carried out on some important historical artifacts with distinct morphological and typological characteristics. According to aims and needs that emerged during the connotative process, with the support of archival and iconographic historical research, the laser scanner technology has been used in many different ways. New forms of representation, obtained directly from the point cloud, have been tested for the elaboration of thematic studies for documenting the pathologies and the decay of materials, for correlating visible aspects with invisible aspects of the artifact

The present paper aims at dealing with some issues of knowledge of the architectural heritage. Given the increasing use of the innovative technologies in the field of the cultural heritage it is important to focus on their usefulness and potentialities in order to the conservation project management. The role of the new survey techniques and the accurate representations of the dimensional, structural and material consistency of the historic buildings and their context is mandatory and can influence the restoration choices. Starting from a recent applied research concerning a significant and symbolic monument of Naples, Castel Nuovo, the paper intends to highlight not only the importance of the integration of the specialist surveys, but also the role of the critical interpretation. The results of the different disciplines involved in the knowledge process have to be evaluated critically in view of the conservation of the tangible and intangible values. Furthermore, catching the complexity of architecture of the past depends on the capacity to maintain a close and constant contactwith the building physicality and also on a complex methodology which is inclusive of new interpretative instruments which could increase a virtuous hermeneutic circle

Advanced diagnostics and innovative solutions for leather defects: the problem of yellowing

    Get PDF
Content: Providing peculiar enhanced features to leather items is a factor of primary importance for the marketing of high-end articles; although the tanning production is oriented to satisfy a wide market range, it is mainly in the 'high end' and 'premium luxury' categories that the quality properties of the material are more expressed, indeed, and where the main current challenges have been focalized, in terms of technological innovation, sustainability and product quality. The light-coloured leathers belongs to the category of materials designed especially for the luxury market. For this type of articles, the uniformity of the colour and the agreeableness of the overall surface appearance are crucial requirements for the most of international fashion and luxury brands. One of the most common and undesirable defects of this type of article is the alteration of the color, with particular reference to the effects of yellowing of the surface of the material. There are several causes able to contribute to this type of defects, due to the complexity of the matrix and to the variability of traditional or innovative production processes used: from the fragility, photosensitivity and thermo-sensitivity of the finishing polymers, to the chemical instability of some finishing pigments, further than the presence of photosensitive additives, the migration of skin components or assembly components of the articles (fats, fillers, plasticizers, glues, etc.), up to the indirect contribution of environmental and thermo-climatic factors able to affect negatively the performance of the material. SSIP, which has always been involved in research and consulting activities for the leather industry with regards to defect monitoring, through this work, would offer an overview of all the main tools for advanced diagnostics (with particular reference to Scanning Electronic Microscopy and to chromatographic and spectroscopic methods) aimed to the identification of the causes of yellowing, beside to explore innovative solutions for the development of strategies for the resolution and / or minimization of the problem of yellowing. The technical solutions will include innovative tanning processes, innovative finishing methods, and leather surface treatments carried out in order to provide a sensible attenuation of surface absorption of IR (infrared) and UV (ultraviolet)-visible radiation. Due to landslides, earthquakes or other natural events, there are many sites in Campania, once lived and lived, now abandoned completely or partially. In Sannio and Irpinia it was the 1980 earthquake that irreversibly determined the depopulation of many villages.Conza della Campania has been totally abandoned and rebuilt downstream in the locality "Piano delle Briglie"; today the whole hill of Conza has been transformed into an archaeological parkIn 2015 a series of municipalities, including Conza, agreed to signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Constitution of the regional network of "Abandoned Villages of Campania", which represents an attempt to "network" the cultural heritage. The regional proposal is aimed at creating a synergistic inter-institutional collaboration open to local operators and to institutional and private investors, and aimed at defining an intervention strategy that gives life to a program of development of the territories in question, through the promotion and retraining of the historical, architectural, landscape and identity heritage represented by the abandoned villages. The contribution tries to outline the possible scenarios for a recovery of this center, which museum of itself can still perform cultural function. In fact, the future of a historic center is an integral part of an idea of the future of the entire existing city, of the identity and role that is recognized in all its parts and their mutual relations and interdependencies. COGNITIVE MULTI-USER FREE SPACE OPTICAL COMMUNICATION

    Get PDF
Increasing deployment of terrestrial, aerial, and space-based assets designed with more demanding services and applications is dramatically escalating the need for high capacity, high data-rate, adaptive, and flexible communication networks. Cognitive, multi-user Free Space Optical Communication (FSOC) networks provide a solution to address these challenges. Such FSOC networks can potentially merge automation and intelligence, as well as offer the benefits of optical communication with enhanced bandwidth and data-rate over long communication networks. Extensive research has investigated various designs, techniques, and methods to enable desired FSOC systems. This dissertation reports the investigation and analysis of novel, state-of-the-art methodologies and algorithms for supporting cognitive, multi-user FSOC. This work details an investigation of the ability of diverse Optical-Multiple Access Control (O-MAC) techniques for performing multi-point communication. Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) techniques were experimentally validated, both singularly and in a combined approach, in a high-speed FSOC link. These methods proved to successfully support multi-user FSOC when users share allocation resources (e.g., time, bandwidth, and space, among others). Additionally, transmission and channel parameters that can affect signal reconstruction performance were identified. To introduce cognition and flexibility into the network, the research reported herein details the use of several Machine Learning (ML) algorithms for estimating crucial parameters at the Physical Layer (PHY) of FSOC networks (e.g., number of transmitting users, modulation format, and quality of transmission [QoT]) for automatically supporting and decoding multiple users. In particular, a novel methodology based on a weighted clustering analysis for automatic and blind user discovery is presented in this work. Extensive experimental analysis was conducted under multiple communication scenarios to identify system performance and limitations. Experimental results demonstrated the ability of the proposed techniques to successfully estimate parameters of interest with high accuracy. Finally, this dissertation presents the design and testing of a modular, multiple node, high-speed, real-time Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) testbed, which provides a hardware and software platform for testing proposed methods and for further research development. This dissertation successfully proves the feasibility of cognitive, multi-user FSOC through the developed and presented methodologies, as well as extensive experimental analyses. The main strength of the research outcomes of this work consists of exploiting software solutions (e.g., O-MAC, signal processing, and ML techniques) to intelligently support multiple users into a single optical channel (i.e., same allocation resources). Accordingly, Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) requirement can be reduced while achieving an increased network capacity

Il ruolo dell'A.N.AC. nella prevenzione della corruzione negli appalti pubblici

    Get PDF
32 d.l. n. 90/201

Characterization of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in wet-white and metal-free leathers

    Get PDF
Content: As it is known in the tanning sector, in recent times, the so-called wet-white and/or metal-free concepts have had a certain increase. For example, in the automotive sector, the wet-white tanning system, carried out with glutaraldehyde and tannins, has been widely diffused. In fact, car manufacturers offer, for interior furnishings, leather not only for high-end cars but increasingly also in the lower segments. The components on which the leather upholstery is applied are mainly steering wheel, seats, dashboard and panels. Therefore, the use of leather also in this context must be able to meet both the aesthetic/performance criteria and the environmental ones; environmental criteria should also consider the air quality of the interior of a motor vehicle. In practice, the interior furniture consisting of finished leather must be able to release a few volatile substances and, at the same time, provide a typical smell of leather. Considering, therefore, the diffusion of alternative chrome tanning systems for the different uses, in this work, wet-white (glutaraldehyde and tannins) will be investigated, both from the point of view of the performance characteristics and from the ecotoxicological ones. and leathers deriving from the latest generation of metal-free tanning. For the characterization of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) the GC-MS will be used coupled with the 'Purge and Trap' technique with the aim of obtaining information on the new substances used in the wetwhite / metal free production process and then avoiding undesired effects during use (eg bad smell, SVHC substances, etc.) Take-Away: metal-free automotive VO
