    R&D on co-working transport schemes in Geant4

A research and development (R&D) project related to the extension of the Geant4 toolkit has been recently launched to address fundamental methods in radiation transport simulation. The project focuses on simulation at different scales in the same experimental environment; this problem requires new methods across the current boundaries of condensed-random-walk and discrete transport schemes. The new developments have been motivated by experimental requirements in various domains, including nanodosimetry, astronomy and detector developments for high energy physics applications.Comment: To be published in the Proceedings of the CHEP (Computing in High Energy Physics) 2009 conferenc

    Ionisation Models for Nano-Scale Simulation

    Get PDF
Two theory-driven models of electron ionization cross sections, the Binary-Encounter-Bethe model and the Deutsch-M\"ark model, have been design and implemented; they are intended to extend the simulation capabilities of the Geant4 toolkit. The resulting values, along with the cross sections included in the EEDL data library, have been compared to an extensive set of experimental data, covering more than 50 elements over the whole periodic table.Comment: 4 pages, to appear in proceedings of the Nuclear Science Symposium and Medical Imaging Conference 2010, Knoxvill

Hall mobility in doped Si:H,Cl films.

    No full text
The Hall mobility μH in phosphorus- and boron-doped Si:H, Cl films was measured in the temperature range 130–300 K. The conductivity is markedly influenced by the doping, and the activation energies of both the Hall mobility and the conductivity as functions of the temperature are much lower in doped samples than in undoped samples. The process tends to become unactivated at higher doping levels

Inspection & NDT to verify structural realiability of historic wooden roofs in the ex-Meroni spinning-mill

    No full text
The Meroni spinning-mill, an industrial archaeological complex of historic and cultural importance, is the only surviving testimonial - integral, although in decay - of former economic activity in the province. In view of its preservation, inspections and NDT have been carried out on the wooden roof structures to verify and quantify the material consistency, to determine the degree of decay and risk of collapse. The inspection phases involved: identification of wood species; determination of natural durability and class of biological risk; location and evaluation of defects, alterations, critical zones; pathologies; environmental and wood moisture condition; evaluation of residual bearing resistance, photographic survey. The data plotting and reporting has been organized in thematic maps, catalogue of all structural elements, considerations of reliability, assessment of residual resistant sections and initial intervention indications. Local decay has been identified and explained in terms of a prolonged lack of maintenance, responsible for partial loss of material
