The title of my project is 'the Development of an Injection therapy Module'. I undertook this project because I had been charged to develop an injection therapy module for the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine (SOM) (see below), as part of a postgraduate pathway towards an MSc in Orthopaedic Medicine at Middlesex University (MU). The project has three clear parts that link to form the cohérent project as shown in the table below. This 'wrap around' reflective commentary forms the final component to demónstrate the cohésion both within the project itself and its place in my doctoral programme. Defeating the Ben-Zvi, Blackburn, and Tsaban Attack on the Algebraic Eraser

The Algebraic Eraser Diffie-Hellman (AEDH) protocol was introduced in 2005 and published in 2006 by Anshel-Anshel-Goldfeld-Lemieux as a protocol suitable for use on platforms with constrained computational resources, such as FPGAs, ASICs, and wireless sensors. It is a group-theoretic cryptographic protocol that allows two users to construct a shared secret via a Diffie-Hellman-type scheme over an insecure channel. Building on the refuted 2012 permutation-based attack of Kalka-Teichner-Tsaban, in 2015 Ben-Zvi-Blackburn-Tsaban (BBT) presented a heuristic attack that attempts to recover the AEDH shared secret. In their paper BBT reference the AEDH protocol as presented to ISO for certification (ISO 29167-20) by SecureRF. The ISO draft contains two profiles using the Algebraic Eraser. One profile is unaffected by this attack; the second profile is subject to their attack provided the attack runs in real time. This is not the case in most practical deployments. The BBT attack is simply a targeted attack that does not attempt to break the method, system parameters, or recover any private keys. Rather, its limited focus is to recover the shared secret in a single transaction. In addition, the BBT attack is based on several conjectures that are assumed to hold when parameters are chosen according to standard distributions, which can be mitigated, if not avoided. This paper shows how to choose special distributions so that these conjectures do not hold making the BBT attack ineffective for braid groups with sufficiently many strands. Further, the BBT attack assumes that certain data is available to an attacker, but there are realistic deployment scenarios where this is not the case, making the attack fail completely. In summary, the BBT attack is flawed (with respect to the SecureRF ISO draft) and, at a minimum, over-reaches as to its applicability

Stability of Extemporaneously Prepared Sodium Benzoate Oral Suspension

The stability of extemporaneously prepared sodium benzoate oral suspension in cherry syrup and Ora-Sweet was studied. Oral solutions of 250-mg/mL sodium benzoate were prepared in either cherry syrup or Ora-Sweet. To a beaker, 50 grams of Sodium Benzoate Powder USP was dissolved and filtered, the solution was divided equally into two parts, and each aliquot was added into two separate calibrated 100-mL amber vials. In the first vial, cherry syrup was added to make a final volume of 100 mL. In the second vial, Ora-Sweet was added to give a final volume of 100 mL. This process was repeated to prepare three solutions of each kind and all were stored at room temperature. A 250-µL sample was withdrawn immediately after preparation and again at 7, 14, 28, 60, and 90 days for each sample. At each time point, further dilution was made to an expected concentration of 0.25 mg/mL with sample diluent, and the samples were assayed in triplicate by stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatography. Stability was defined as the retention of at least 90% of the initial concentration. At least 92% of the initial concentration of sodium benzoate in cherry syrup and at least 96% of the sodium benzoate in Ora-Sweet remained throughout the 90-day study period. There were no detectable changes in color and no visible microbial growth in any sample. Extemporaneously compounded suspensions of sodium benzoate in cherry syrup or Ora-Sweet were stable for at least 90 days when stored in a 4-oz amber plastic bottle at room temperature in reduced lighting

From the Big Five to the Big Four? Exploring Extinction Accounting for the Rhinoceros

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore a possible framework for extinction accounting which builds on but also extends significantly the existing GRI guidelines relating to species identified by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Red List as under threat of extinction. Design/methodology/approach The paper analyses disclosures relating to rhinoceros conservation and protection produced by top South African-listed companies in order to assess the current state of “extinction accounting”. Following this analysis, the authors explore and discuss a potential framework for extinction accounting which may be used by companies to demonstrate their accountability for species and disclose the ways in which they are working alone, and in partnerships, to prevent species extinction. Findings Corporate disclosures relating to rhinoceros may be interpreted as emancipatory. The authors identify several disclosure themes dealing with rhinoceros in integrated and sustainability reports of large South African companies and on their websites. Contrary to initial expectations, there is evidence to suggest corporate awareness of the importance of addressing the risk of this species becoming extinct. Research limitations/implications The authors have relied on public corporate disclosures and would like to extend the work further to include interview data for a further paper. Practical implications An extinction accounting framework may be applied to corporate accounting and accountability for any species under threat of extinction. The framework may also be considered for use as a tool for institutional investors as well as NGO engagement and dialogue with stakeholder companies. Social implications The rhinoceros has, from the analysis, significant cultural, heritage, eco-tourism and intrinsic value. Developing and implementing an emancipatory extinction accounting framework to prevent extinction will have a substantial social and environmental impact. Originality/value This is the first attempt to the knowledge to explore accounting for extinction and a possible extinction accounting framework. It is also the first attempt to investigate accounting and accountability for the rhinoceros

Jazz by the Sea: KRML and the Radio Presence of ‘America’s Classical Music’

The last for-profit radio station with an all-jazz format was located not in a major city or center of jazz activity, but in Carmel, California. KRML-AM 1410 broadcasted jazz almost exclusively for three decades, before changing to an eclectic rock format in October 2012. This article attempts to explain the conditions that enabled this small but affluent community to sustain a presence for jazz on the airwaves for so long. Moreover, it takes a microhistorical approach that examines the ways that KRML’s history reflects the broader national trends in jazz programming. As jazz has accrued “cultural nobility,” a fancy for the music has become a social indicator of one’s level of cultural sophistication. Canonized as a quintessentially American expressive form and repackaged as a non-intrusive, unthreatening vehicle for tranquil repose and nostalgia, jazz thus complements the aura of refinement and serenity that Carmel residents have sought to create and have fought to maintain for over a century. Its jazz programming informed by such discursive shifts, KRML sought to sway listeners to accept jazz as the ideal accompaniment to the placid, laid-back Carmel lifestyle
