Multi fingered robot hand in industrial robot application using tele-operation
This research focuses on the working and development of wireless robotic hand system.
In this research previously developed models have been studied. After analysis of those
models, a better approach has been presented in this research. The objective of this
research is to design and develop a tele-operated robotic hand system. The robotic hand
is intended for providing solutions to industrial problems like robot reprogramming,
industrial automation and safety of the workers working in hostile environments. The
robotic hand system works in the master slave configuration where Bluetooth is being
used as the communication channel for the tele-operation. The master is a glove,
embedded with sensors to detect the movement of every joint present in the hand, which
a human operator can wear. This joint movement is transferred to the slave robotic hand
which will mimic the movement of human operator. The robotic hand is a multi
fingered dexterous and anthropomorphic hand. All the fingers are capable of performing
flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and hence circumduction. A new combination
of pneumatic muscles and springs has been used for the actuation purpose. As a result,
this combination reduces the size of the robotic hand by decreasing the number of
pneumatic muscles used. The pneumatic muscles are controlled by the opening and
closing of solenoid valves. A novel technique has been used in the robotic hand for
tendon routing, which gives the ability of independence to all finger joints. The heart of
all the control mechanism of the system is mbed microcontroller. The designed system
was tested at different module levels. The results show the successful establishment of
communication between master and slave at a rate of 10 packets per second, which was
sufficient for smooth motion of the system. The amount of torque produced at all the
joints in the robotic hand has been presented in this research. The posture tests have
been performed in which two fingers were actuated which followed the master. This
system has achieved motion of fingers without any tendon coupling problem. The
system is able to replace the human industrial workers performing dexterous tasks
Critical Review of the Paper 'A Simple Model of Firm Heterogeneity, International Trade and Wages', Stephen Ross Yeaple (2005), Journal of International Economics, vol. 65, pp. 1-20
This report critically analyses the paper "A Simple Model of Firm Heterogeneity, International Trade and Wages' authored by, Stephen Ross Yeaple. Yeaple (2005) introduces a static model in which ex-ante homogeneous firms are differentiated based on heterogeneity in technology adoption and skill selection. The process of decision making is based on comparative study of revenues and costs associated with acquisition of technology and labor. By segmenting technology into high- and low-tech, and labor into high- and low-skilled, Yeaple suggests that high-tech firms hire skilled labor at greater wages and yield the access to international market, while on the other hand, the low-tech firms hire moderate skilled labor, pay lower wages and supply to the domestic market only. Furthermore, he shows that under an open economy, a reduction in costs of international trade leads to an increase in share of high-tech (exporting) firms and induces some low-tech firms to switch to the high-tech industry
Impact evaluation of structural adjustment program: a case of Pakistan
We analyzed the effect of Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) on macroeconomic variables of Pakistan using annual time series data for the years 1981-2001. The impact of four policy instruments of SAP, i.e. reduction in budget deficit, increase in indirect taxes,adjusting the exchange rate and sliding down of subsidies, on employment, income distribution, per-capita income and inflation has been analyzed. It is found that the first policy instrument, i.e. decrease in budget deficit has affected employment, income distribution and inflation adversely. The second policy instrument of imposition of indirect tax negatively affected the employment, income distribution, per capita income and positively affected the inflation. The third policy instrument of SAP was adjustment of exchange rate. It is estimated that adjusting exchange rate has resulted into increased unemployment and inflation. The fourth policy instrument of shrink in subsidies augmented the unemployment, unequal distribution of income and inflation and dwindled the percapita income. It appears that SAP has adversely affected the major socioeconomic variables of the economy. Investigating Spam Mass Variations for Detecting Web Spam
In this paper, we investigate variations of Spam Mass for filtering web spam. Firstly, we
propose two strategies for designing new variations of the Spam Mass algorithm. Then, we perform experiments among different versions of Spam Mass using WEBSPAM-UK2006 data set. Finally, we show improvement through proposed strategy by up to 1.33 times in recall and 1.02 times in precision over the original version of Spam Mass
With No Deliberate Speed: The Segregation of Roma Children in Europe
In this study, by taking the advantage of both inorganic ZnO nanoparticles and the organic material chitosan as a composite seed layer, we have fabricated well-aligned ZnO nanorods on a gold-coated glass substrate using the hydrothermal growth method. The ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by the Raman spectroscopic techniques, which showed the nanocrystalline phase of the ZnO nanoparticles. Different composites of ZnO nanoparticles and chitosan were prepared and used as a seed layer for the fabrication of well-aligned ZnO nanorods. Field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopic techniques were utilized for the structural characterization of the ZnO nanoparticles/chitosan seed layer-coated ZnO nanorods on a gold-coated glass substrate. This study has shown that the ZnO nanorods are well-aligned, uniform, and dense, exhibit the wurtzite hexagonal structure, and are perpendicularly oriented to the substrate. Moreover, the ZnO nanorods are only composed of Zn and O atoms. An optical study was also carried out for the ZnO nanoparticles/chitosan seed layer-coated ZnO nanorods, and the obtained results have shown that the fabricated ZnO nanorods exhibit good crystal quality. This study has provided a cheap fabrication method for the controlled morphology and good alignment of ZnO nanorods, which is of high demand for enhancing the working performance of optoelectronic devices
