Complexity of XOR/XNOR boolean functions: a model using binary decision diagrams and back propagation neural networks

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a model that predicts the complexity of Boolean functions with only XOR/XNOR min-terms using back propagation neural networks (BPNNs) applied to Binary Decision Diagrams (BDDs). The BPNN model (BPNNM) is developed through the training process of experimental data already obtained for XOR/XNOR-based Boolean functions. The outcome of this model is a unique matrix for the complexity estimation over a set of BDDs derived from Boolean expressions with a given number of variables and XOR/XNOR min-terms. The comparison results of the experimental and BPNNM underline the efficiency of this approach, which is capable of providing some useful clues about the complexity of the circuit to be implemented. It also proves the computational capabilities of NNs in providing reliable classification of the complexity of Boolean functions.Facultad de Informátic

Intersession reliability of a posturo-stabilometric test, using a force platform

To evaluate the intersession reliability of a posturo-stabilometric examination. METHODS: Single blind clinical trial conducted in two sessions over two weeks. 44 healthy volunteers free from postural and temporomandibular disorders. All the subjects complied with the criteria for completing the study. All the subjects underwent two sessions of posturo-stabilometric examinations in different visual and mandibular conditions. Sway area, sway length and the coordinates of the center of pressure were evaluated and statistically analyzed using the Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). RESULTS: All the posturo-stabilometric parameters seemed to have an excellent reproducibility with overall ICCs higher than 70% and good confidence intervals except for the sway area (ICC 0.422 with CI 0.283-0.560 with open eyes and ICC 0.554 with CI 0.424-0.683 with closed eyes). CONCLUSIONS: The posturo-stabilometric examination carried out using a force platform has a good intrasession and intersession reliability, especially considering sway velocity, COP X and COP Y parameters. The force platform usefulness in analyzing static posture is confirmed in any medical field

BioMAJ: a flexible framework for databanks synchronization and processing

    Get PDF
Large- and medium-scale computational molecular biology projects require accurate bioinformatics software and numerous heterogeneous biological databanks, which are distributed around the world. BioMAJ provides a flexible, robust, fully automated environment for managing such massive amounts of data. The JAVA application enables automation of the data update cycle process and supervision of the locally mirrored data repository. We have developed workflows that handle some of the most commonly used bioinformatics databases. A set of scripts is also available for post-synchronization data treatment consisting of indexation or format conversion (for NCBI blast, SRS, EMBOSS, GCG, etc.). BioMAJ can be easily extended by personal homemade processing scripts. Source history can be kept via html reports containing statements of locally managed databanks

Freeboard life-cycle benefit-cost analysis of a rental single-family residence for landlord, tenant, and insurer

    Get PDF
Flood risk to single-family rental housing remains poorly understood, leaving a large and increasing population underinformed to protect themselves, including regarding insurance. This research introduces a life-cycle benefit-cost analysis for the landlord, tenant, and insurer [i.e., (U.S.) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)] to optimize freeboard [i.e., additional first-floor height above the base flood elevation (BFE)] selection for a rental single-family home. Flood insurance premium; apportioned flood risk among the landlord, tenant, and NFIP by insurance coverage and deductible; rental loss; moving and displacement costs; freeboard construction cost; and rent increase upon freeboard implementation are considered in estimating net benefit (NB) by freeboard. For a 2,500 square-foot case study home in Metairie, Louisiana, a two-foot freeboard optimizes the combined savings for landlord and tenant, with joint life-cycle NB of 23,658and23,658 and 14,978, for a 3% and 7% real discount rate, respectively. Any freeboard up to 2.5 feet benefits the tenant and NFIP, while the landlord benefits for freeboards up to 4.0 feet. Collectively, results suggest that at the time of construction, even minimal freeboard provides substantial savings for the landlord, tenant, and NFIP. The research provides actionable information, supporting the decision-making process for landlords, tenants, and others, thereby enhancing investment and occupation decisions
