    Identifying the Entrepreneurship Characteristics of the Oil Palm Community Plantation Farmers in the Riau Area

    Oil palm is an essential and strategic commodity in the Riau area because of its considerable role in supporting the peoples’ economy, especially for plantation farmers. Oil palm plantation activities have brought economic impacts to society there, both for the people who are directly involved with the plantations and for their surrounding communities. This regional advantage is a facility for farmers to be able to develop their farms as plantations. The aims of this research are to identify the entrepreneurship characteristics of the oil palm farmers, and also to identify the entrepreneurship characteristics that differentiate the farmers, as seen from their business’ achievements. The research used a grounded theory approach to identify the characteristics of oil palm farmers systematically. The sampling method used for the research was theoretical sampling, which is data gathering driven by the concepts derived from the theory of previous entrepreneurship characteristics studies. The research object is the oil palm farmers in Riau, Indonesia. The results of the analysis identified the entrepreneurship characteristics of the oil palm farmers, they are growth oriented, risk-taking, innovative, with a sense of personal control, self confident, and cooperative. But, among the characteristics, only the characteristic of their cooperation did not differentiate the oil palm farmers in the achievement of their business activities

    Increasing the awareness of palm oil plantation replanting through farmers training

Private and government-owned plantation has started the replanting, but plantation community owned. The slow replanting process in smallholders’ palm oil plantation caused by poor knowledge of replanting. This community service objective was to increase the awareness of replanting of palm oil plantation run by smallholders, so it can accelerate the replanting process. We used interactive training method to deliver knowledge related to palm oil plantation replanting. The activity combined indoor and field class to give a better understanding of replanting. The community service activity involved academicians, palm oil practitioners, government institution, and palm oil farmers association. The success of this activity measured by the participant's assessment results through the written test. This training successfully delivered the needed knowledge and experience about palm oil plantation replanting. The knowledge and awareness were expected to accelerate the successful replanting process of palm oil plantation in the Province of Riau

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh umur usaha, kualitas produk, dan motivasi usaha terhadap keberhasilan UKM tahu dan tempe di Kelurahan Bukit Batrem Kota Dumai. Populasi penelitian pelaku UKM tahu dan tempe di Kelurahan Bukit Batrem Kota Dumai. Sampel penelitian seluruh pelaku UKM tahu dan tempe di Kelurahan Bukit Batrem Kota Dumai yang berjumlah 35 pelaku usaha, dengan teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sampling jenuh. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner yang dibagikan secara langsung, dan data yang terkumpul kemudian ditabulasi dan dianalisis menggunakan regresi linier berganda. Pengujian hipotesis dilakukan dengan uji F dan uji t. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian umur usaha, kualitas produk, dan motivasi usaha berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap keberhasilan usaha baik secara simultan maupun secara parsial. Oleh karena itu, apabila pelaku usaha memiliki umur usaha yang cukup lama, memiliki kualitas produk yang dihasilkan baik, dan memiliki motivasi usaha yang tinggi, maka keberhasilan usaha akan tercapai

    ABSTRACT   Indonesia is the leading producer of palm oil in the world. In 2016 Indonesia and Malaysia produced 81% of the world's palm oil. This study aims to analyze the response of the supply and demand for Indonesian palm oil in the world market. This study used time-series data from 1980-2016. The model built is an econometric model, simultaneous equations. To answer the research objectives, the data were analyzed using the Two Stages Least Square (2SLS) method. The main finding of this study is that in the short term, there are no responsive variables. In the long term, the variable that is responsive to the supply of Indonesian palm oil is the lag area of Indonesian palm oil. In the Malaysian palm oil supply equation, the response variable is the lag area of Malaysian palm oil. In terms of domestic demand for Indonesian palm oil, there are no responsive variables both in the short and long term. In the equation of demand for Malaysian palm oil, the responsive variables are the price of Malaysian palm oil and the price of Malaysian coconut oil. In the international demand for palm oil, the responsive variables are the increase in world palm oil prices, world palm oil prices, 2-year lag in world palm oil prices, and GDP per capita Pakistan. In terms of price, the responsive variable affecting the price of Indonesian palm oil is the world price of palm oil

    Uncovering the building blocks of rural entrepreneurship: A comprehensive framework for mapping the components of rural entrepreneurial ecosystems

    Entrepreneurship is a crucial driver of economic growth, especially in rural areas. Understanding the unique components that contribute to the success of rural entrepreneurial ecosystems is essential. This study presents a cutting-edge approach to uncover the essential components of rural entrepreneurial ecosystems that support rural entrepreneurship. We employ bibliometric techniques that enable us to leverage the Scopus database's academic paper metadata related to entrepreneurial ecosystems. Through citation analysis, we identify a core network of studies related to entrepreneurial ecosystems. Co-occurrence analysis visualizes the clusters of the most prominent components in both general and rural entrepreneurial ecosystems. We interpret the results based on a literature review. Our study categorizes the essential components into two: actor (academics, business, government, and community) and non-actor (human capital, network, entrepreneurial culture, financial systems, governance systems, infrastructure, environmental resources, and market) components. Environmental resources are critical in distinguishing the conditions of an entrepreneurial ecosystem in rural areas. This component represents the uniqueness and local economic potential of smaller areas, whereas in general entrepreneurial ecosystem studies, this component might not be a concern. By uncovering the components of rural entrepreneurial ecosystems, our study provides insights that can help policymakers, practitioners, and academics better support rural entrepreneurship and promote economic growth in rural areas
