Adsorptive removal of Fe(III) using gallic acid anchored iron magnetic nano-adsorbents synthesized via two different routes under microwave irradiation
9-20Under microwave solvent free conditions, bare iron magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4-MNPs) have been silica coated, amine functionalized and gallic acid grafted, in presence and absence of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS). The synthesized adsorbents in both cases have been followed up by Fourier transform infrared, scan electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analyses to verify and compare the progress of surface modification. The effects of various parameters on the adsorption efficiency of Fe(III) such as pH of solution, amount of adsorbent and contact time have been studied and optimized. The adsorbents Fe3O4-MNPs-SiO2-CPTMS-1,2-EDA-GA and MNPs-CPTMS-1,2-EDA-GA exhibit higher Fe(III) capacities (4.980 and 4.700 mmol/g) than their analogous Fe3O4-MNPs-SiO2-APTMS-GA and Fe3O4-MNPs-APTMS-GA (4.324 and 4.230 mmol/g). The studies of sorption kinetics showed rapid sorption dynamics by a second-order kinetic model, suggesting chemisorption mechanism. Fe(III) adsorption equilibrium data have been fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm. The results of medium stability as criteria for potential coating and values of metal uptake capacity support the possibility of the direct use of alkoxysilanes as an alternative to TEOS not only for coating but also for amine functionalization. This is strengthened by almost equal capability of gallic acid anchored adsorbents for extraction of trace concentrations of Fe(III) spiked natural water samples
Impact Of Breast Feeding Versus Formula Feeding On Surgical Wound Healing In Infants During The First Three Months Of Age
Breast milk has antimicrobial and healing properties that actually can help the wound healing. Surgical infants are at a much higher risk for malnutrition as a result of increased metabolic demands from surgery, nutrient losses, and sepsis. Many methods of feeding are used postoperatively for infants; oral feeding (breast or formula milk), enteral, or parenteral feeding. Aim of this work was to assess the effect of breast-feeding versus formula feeding on surgical wound healing in infant during the first three months. Methods and materials: Comparative descriptive research design was used to carry out this study. It comprised 100 infants aged less than 3 months, they were divided into two equal groups as the following: Group 1: received breast milk feeding, Group 2: received formula milk feeding. Tools were developed by the researcher, after that the researcher fulfill assessment sheet and took anthropometric measurements for each infant then the photographs were taken by the researcher on the 7th postoperative day and reassessed for second time on the 14th day. Results: Out of the included breast-fed infants, 78 % were boys, while 22% were girls
Antifungal Activity of Syzygium aromaticum (Dianthus) against toxigenic Rhizopus stolonifera and its immunomodulatory effects in aflatoxin-fed mice
Purpose: To evaluate the antifungal potency of Syzygium aromaticum (Dianthus) seed extract against the growth and aflatoxin production of Rhizopus stolonifer, and its immunomodulatory effect. Methods: Disc diffusion method was used for assay of antifungal effect of aqueous extract of Dianthus. Lymphoid cell counts, total and differential peritoneal exudate cell counts (PEC), phagocytic activity of PEC, and plaque-forming activities were determined. In addition, E-rosette-forming cells (RFC), T-cell mitogenesis cells and liver functions were measured. Results: The aqueous extract of Dianthus (50 %) exhibited high inhibition zone against most isolates of R. stolonifera. It produced significant increases in the number of splenocytes, as well as in the absolute number and relative proportion of macrophages (p < 0.05). The extract also produced a gradual increase in the scavenging activity of PEC, and significant reduction in serum ALT, relative to control. Conclusion: These results suggest that Dianthus modifies biological responses by enhancement of the immune system, activation of phagocytosis, boosting of immune response, and prevention of liver damage. Keywords: Aflatoxin, Syzygium aromaticum, Rhizopus stolonifer, Lymphocytes, T-cells, B-cells, Macrophage
Design, Synthesis and Antibacterial Evaluation of some new 3,5-Diphenylcyclohex-2-en-1-one Derivatives
The moiety of cyclohexene has been showed highly antibacterial activity. New compounds were synthesized from diphenylcyclohexenone via reaction with a variety of reagents to afford branched chain of 1,3-diphenylcyclohexene or fused heterocyclic systems including pyrazole, chromen and pyrrole derivatives. Cyclic ketoketene s,s-acetal can be prepared by reaction with CS2/MeI under PTC conditions which in turn used as starting material for the synthesis of pyrazolyl and benzothiszolyl derivatives. Most of new synthesized compounds were characterized by using spectral data and were screened for their antibacterial activity
Comparative study between cases of previous one cesarean section delivered at Kafr El-Sheikh hospitals, versus those delivered at Tanta Uniersity Hospital
Background: Many factors have contributed to the increasing rates of CSs, including increases in maternal age, BMI, and changes in obstetric practices and technologies. CSs requested by the mother and fear of litigation among caregivers have now become one of the most common indications of CS. Aim of this study was to compare between conditions of previous one caesarean section subjects delivered at Kafr El-Sheikh general hospitals, versus those delivered at Tanta University hospital as regard integrity of the uterine scars, presence of adhesions, time of termination, and fetal outcomes. Methods: This study was an observational study that was carried out on 100 pregnant ladies with history of previous one caesarean section. Participants were divided into two groups: group I included 50 pregnant women selected from Tanta University hospitals, group II included 50 pregnant women selected from Kafr El-Sheikh General hospital. Results: The estimated blood loss was significantly higher in cases selected from Kafr El-Sheikh hospitals compared to that lost from cases selected from Tanta University hospitals. Furthermore, operation time was significantly longer in patients selected from Kafr El-Sheikh hospitals than those selected from Tanta University hospitals. Additionally, omental adhesion was observed in 5 cases (5%); 3 (6%) from those selected from Kafr El-sheikh hospitals and 2 (4%) from those selected from Tanta University hospitals. As regard post-operative blood transfusion, there were increase in the incidence of post-operative blood transfusion in pregnant women selected from Kafr El-Sheikh hospitals (8%) compared to those selected from Tanta University hospitals (4%), but without statistically significant difference (p=0.678).Conclusions: There is high rate of caesarean section in our country. But satisfactory results were present in both Tanta university hospitals and Kafr El-Sheikh general hospital with few complication rates found special in cases priory delivered at Tanta University hospitals including less adhesion finding and thus less intra and post-operative complications

Cultural Ecosystem Services and Local Identity – A ppGIS Case Study from Budapest Metropolitan Region
Several studies and international conventions highlight the importance of public participation in the process of strategy building. In spite of all these initiatives, public participation methods are not common tools in the practice (especially in Central-Eastern-Europe). In the frames of our research, we applied the ppGIS (Public Participation GIS) method, a special, mostly new tool in Hungary, in order to bridge the gap between the scientific world and local citizens. The method combines community based mapping with GIS techniques. It aims to foster the integration of the public into the process of evaluation, planning, and decision making using GIS technology. Our former research project justified the significance of this method, especially in mapping cultural ecosystem services, since these cases are the most important to local knowledge.
We applied the ppGIS method in micro-region of Vác, situated in Budapest Metropolitan Region. Five cultural ecosystem services were chosen based on former scientific literatures (these are the most commonly used cultural ecosystem services, since these describe the social-cultural background of a place, region): aesthetic value, recreational value, spiritual value, cultural and historic value, and educational value. The survey was carried out between 2017 and 2018 collecting 184 maps. The data was digitized and processed using GIS. The objectives were to define the level of local identity in this peri-urban region, and to analyze the relationship between the frequently used, visited areas and the location of the most important cultural landscape elements for the locals.
We had the following research questions: Which landscape elements, settlements, regions are marked mostly with local significance? What are the causes for regional disparities? Do the commuting or travel routes influence the significance of landscape values for the society? Is there any correlation between hiking trails, cycling routes and the location of marked landscape elements?
Our results show that most of the regionally known values are in the administrative and historic center of the micro-region, but some settlement-groups may have their own local identity, as the level of appreciation differs when we analyze the separate watersheds within the micro-region. It turned out that there is a correlation between bike routes and cultural ecosystem services in the region. The hiking routes are crossing the area where the most values were marked by locals outside of town centers or villages. In spite of high road density and the huge number of commuting residents, the most important daily routes did not always influence priorities locally
