The creation of replicas using moulds was not new in the nineteenth century. However, for various reasons, particularly the creation of public museums, the use of casts as museum objects took off around the world. This was due to the use of new materials and improved techniques. This article addresses some issues in the processes of creating moulds of monuments based on new information found in archival documents on these objects. In the mould-making process, the requestor, the owners of the originals and the management of the operation are directly related to the state of conservation of monuments and the role of replicas in the preservation of current monumental heritage.

This paper presents the design, development and testing of a multi-channel device for acquisition and transmission of ECG and temperature signals, using wireless transmission technologies (Bluetooth, ZigBee, RF), with a central monitoring user interface. We analyzed the system’s performance based on its availability (97%), connection time (6 seconds) and measurement’s accuracy (98%

Technical, Environmental, and Economic Evaluation of Alternatives for Hybrid Energy Generation for Rational Energy Use Scenarios at the Santander Technological Units Using HOMER Pro Software

    Get PDF
The Technological Units of Santander (UTS), a prominent higher education institution in eastern Colombia, consumes an average of 28,490 kWh per month, resulting in monthly costs exceeding USD $5000. To address this, an analysis is underway to reduce expenses and explore viable clean energy solutions for the university buildings. This study aims to assess the technical, economic, and environmental feasibility of hybrid energy generation options, promoting rational energy use. The evaluation utilizes Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER Pro) software. The analysis of three scenarios indicates that photovoltaic systems can fulfil 24 % to 43.4 % of the energy demand, potentially reducing energy consumption by 30 % through hybrid system implementation. Each scenario offers alternatives with a return on investment (ROI) of over 5.8 % and a feasible internal rate of return (IRR) exceeding 8.9 %. Currently, UTS emits approximately 229.47 t of CO2 annually. However, implementing rational energy use scenarios could reduce CO2 emissions by up to 49.3 %

Friedrich Hayek and his visits to Chile

    Get PDF
    F. A. Hayek took two trips to Chile, the first in 1977, the second in 1981. The visits were controversial. On the first trip he met with General Augusto Pinochet, who had led a coup that overthrew Salvador Allende in 1973. During his 1981 visit, Hayek gave interviews that were published in the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio and in which he discussed authoritarian regimes and the problem of unlimited democracy. After each trip, he complained that the western press had painted an unfair picture of the economic situation under the Pinochet regime. Drawing on archival material, interviews, and past research, we provide a full account of this controversial episode in Hayek’s life
