MAGNETRON SPUTTERING TECHNIQUE USED FOR COATINGS DEPOSITION; TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS
Abstract. The magnetron sputtering processes allow the deposition of metals, alloys, ceramic, and polymer thin films onto a wide range of substrate materials. Within the frame of this work, the recent developments of reactive magnetron sputtering technique are presented. The development, fundamental principles and applications of the magnetron sputtering process are discussed and commented. At the same time, the paper presents few examples of the use of this technique to develop advanced coatings for industrial applications, including corrosion resistant coatings, hard ceramic coatings, and coatings with novel thermal and chemical properties
Wafer-scale detachable monocrystalline Germanium nanomembranes for the growth of III-V materials and substrate reuse
Germanium (Ge) is increasingly used as a substrate for high-performance
optoelectronic, photovoltaic, and electronic devices. These devices are usually
grown on thick and rigid Ge substrates manufactured by classical wafering
techniques. Nanomembranes (NMs) provide an alternative to this approach while
offering wafer-scale lateral dimensions, weight reduction, limitation of waste,
and cost effectiveness. Herein, we introduce the Porous germanium Efficient
Epitaxial LayEr Release (PEELER) process, which consists of the fabrication of
wafer-scale detachable monocrystalline Ge NMs on porous Ge (PGe) and substrate
reuse. We demonstrate monocrystalline Ge NMs with surface roughness below 1 nm
on top of nanoengineered void layer enabling layer detachment. Furthermore,
these Ge NMs exhibit compatibility with the growth of III-V materials.
High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) characterization shows
Ge NMs crystallinity and high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) reciprocal
space mapping endorses high-quality GaAs layers. Finally, we demonstrate the
chemical reconditioning process of the Ge substrate, allowing its reuse, to
produce multiple free-standing NMs from a single parent wafer. The PEELER
process significantly reduces the consumption of Ge during the fabrication
process which paves the way for a new generation of low-cost flexible
optoelectronics devices.Comment: 17 pages and 6 figures along with 3 figures in supporting informatio
Investigation of dopant incorporation in silicon carbide epilayers grown by chemical vapor deposition
The role of main process conditions (growth temperature, dopant supply, deposition rate, growth pressure and C/Si ratio) on both, Nitrogen and Aluminum incorporation was studied in details. Previous works have widely explored the characteristics of dopant incorporation, especially the nitrogen incorporation addressing a potential influence of growth equipment for the observed incorporation trends. An exhaustive experimental study of N and Al incorporation was performed for homoepitaxial 4H-SiC layers grown on Si- and C-faces of 4H-SiC substrates in our CVD setups to explore such influence. It was completed by the assessment of the structural, optical and electrical properties of the Al doped 4H-SiC films. Furthermore, the fabrication of pn diodes was tested on the grown layers. We have observed different experimental tendencies depending on dopant nature, crystal orientation and chemical environment. We conclude from these observations that the mechanism behind the experimentally obtained tendencies is widely influenced by factors such as process conditions (i.e. growth temperature and/or pressure) and the carbon coverage at the grown surface, especially on C-fac

Epitaxial lift-off process for III-V solar cells by using porous germanium for substrate re-use
International audienceGermanium substrate re-use by porous sacrificial layer appears to be a promising approach for next generation high efficiency III- V solar cells. The morphological evolution of the double porous Ge layer upon ultra-high-vacuum annealing both experimentally and numerically was studied. We introduced the three-dimensional kinetic Monte Carlo model based on thermally activated jumps of atoms to simulate the porous Ge layer evolution during high temperature annealing driven by minimization of the total surface energy. It was demonstrated that the simulated sintering of double layer of randomly distributed Ge pores concurs quantitatively with experimental finding
