The Catalonian Crises through Google Searches: A Regional Perspective

Resumen de la comunicación[EN] In this paper we focus in the period of political turmoil starting in September 2017 in Catalonia. Our research question is the following: can the Catalan crisis be tracked by the searches done by the public on different consumption items in the Internet? We do so by focusing in two set of consumption categories: Travel to Catalonia from the main international markets (France, Germany and United Kingdom) and searches on the main consumption categories done from Catalonia and from other five big regions (Madrid, Valencia, Aragón, Andalucía and Basque Country). The preliminary results show that the uncertainty in the political situation has translated unto a decline in searches on terms associated with tourism activities in Barcelona, one broad measure shows that searches for the term “Barcelona hotel” has declined by 12%, year on year for September 2017 to January 2018, by comparison searches for hotel in other comparable Spanish regions have increased slightly. When comparing searches done from Catalonia with other regions through simple time series models, a sizeable negative residual for Catalonia is present in October 2017 –the most difficult period in the Catalan conundrum- which is not observed in other geographical areas. This is the case for some search topics associated to durable goods and Catering and Accommodation services. The political turmoil in Catalonia had significant negative effects in two consumption categories: Theaters and Restaurants.Artola, C.; Pérez, JJ. (2018). Hydrogen Assisted Fracture of 30MnB5 High Strength Steel: A Case Study

When steel components fail in service due to the intervention of hydrogen assisted cracking, discussion of the root cause arises. The failure is frequently blamed on component design, working conditions, the manufacturing process, or the raw material. This work studies the influence of quench and tempering and hot-dip galvanizing on the hydrogen embrittlement behavior of a high strength steel. Slow strain rate tensile testing has been employed to assess this influence. Two sets of specimens have been tested, both in air and immersed in synthetic seawater, at three process steps: in the delivery condition of the raw material, after heat treatment and after heat treatment plus hot-dip galvanizing. One of the specimen sets has been tested without further manipulation and the other set has been tested after applying a hydrogen effusion treatment. The outcome, for this case study, is that fracture risk issues only arise due to hydrogen re-embrittlement in wet service

This research aims to examine the relationship of user generated content (UGC) sources in social media which is provided by strong-tie sources and weak-tie sources on tourist expectations on core resources and factor supporting of the destinations, and also analyze the moderate effect of the reasons of travelling on the relationship of UGC sources and tourist expectations. 375 samples were collected. The results demonstrate that travelling reasons is an important factor to consider about the origin of tourist expectations. The UGC that was provided by weak-tie source has influence on tourist expectations when they travel with business reason

Collective cell durotaxis emerges from long-range intercellular force transmission

The ability of cells to follow gradients of extracellular matrix stiffness—durotaxis—has been implicated in development, fibrosis, and cancer. Here, we found multicellular clusters that exhibited durotaxis even if isolated constituent cells did not. This emergent mode of directed collective cell migration applied to a variety of epithelial cell types, required the action of myosin motors, and originated from supracellular transmission of contractile physical forces. To explain the observed phenomenology, we developed a generalized clutch model in which local stick-slip dynamics of cell-matrix adhesions was integrated to the tissue level through cell-cell junctions. Collective durotaxis is far more efficient than single-cell durotaxis; it thus emerges as a robust mechanism to direct cell migration during development, wound healing, and collective cancer cell invasion.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
