Desarrollo y validación de una versión preliminar de la escala de competencia emocional en el deporte (ECE_D)
El importante papel que juegan las emociones en los contextos deportivos ha sido ampliamente defendido en la literatura
sobre psicología del deporte. El objetivo de este estudio es desarrollar y validar un instrumento para evaluar la
competencia emocional de los deportistas. La muestra la componen 367 deportistas de ambos géneros pertenecientes a
diferentes disciplinas deportivas. Se analizaron los antecedentes y las características psicométricas de la Escala de
Desarrollo Emocional (Schutte, Malouff, Hall, Haggerty, Cooper, Golden y Dornhein, 1998). Los resultados obtenidos
confirmaron en términos generales el modelo de cuatro factores propuesto por los autores originales y además, plantea la
posibilidad de incluir mejoras sustanciales del cuestionario para futuras versiones relacionadas con su aplicabilidad.The relevant role of emotions in competitive contexts has been widely supported in the sport psychology literature. The
aim of this study was to create a valid measure of emotional development in sports. The sample is composed by 367
sportsmen/women belonging to different sporting disciplines. Analyses were performed about the antecedents and the
psychometric properties of the Emotional Development Scale (Schutte, Malouff, Hall, Haggerty, Cooper, Golden &
Dornhein, 1998). Results showed that, in general terms, the initially proposed four factor model was supported.

Complex hybridization patterns in European pond turtles (Emys orbicularis) in the Pyrenean Region
Hybrid zones are natural laboratories allowing insights in genetic processes like lineage diversification, speciation and introgression. Using large sampling, 15 microsatellite loci and a mitochondrial marker, we examined the Pyrenean contact zone of three pond turtle taxa (Emys orbicularis orbicularis, E. o. galloitalica, E. o. occidentalis). The Pyrenees are a biogeographically important region separating many lineages endemic to the Iberian Peninsula from their Western European counterparts. We discovered limited admixture, reflecting a complex biogeographic scenario. Simulations using Approximate Bayesian Computing supported that E. o. orbicularis invaded the Iberian Peninsula in the Holocene, circumventing the Pyrenees along the Mediterranean coast, and hybridized in the northern peninsula with the local coastal subspecies galloitalica, and to a lesser extent, with occidentalis. While E. o. occidentalis, and in particular E. o. orbicularis, expanded their ranges considerably during Holocene warming, E. o. galloitalica remained largely confined to its former Iberian refuge. Admixture among the three taxa is surprisingly low, and a future taxonomic investigation that includes the unstudied subspecies of E. orbicularis from North Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia has to determine whether their current status properly reflects their evolutionary divergence or whether certain taxa should be regarded as full species
Structural basis for the inactivation of cytosolic DNA sensing by the vaccinia virus.
Detection of cytosolic DNA is a central element of the innate immunity system against viral infection. The Ku heterodimer, a component of the NHEJ pathway of DNA repair in the nucleus, functions as DNA sensor that detects dsDNA of viruses that replicate in the cytoplasm. Vaccinia virus expresses two proteins, C4 and C16, that inactivate DNA sensing and enhance virulence. The structural basis for this is unknown. Here we determine the structure of the C16 - Ku complex using cryoEM. Ku binds dsDNA by a preformed ring but C16 sterically blocks this access route, abrogating binding to a dsDNA end and its insertion into DNA-PK, thereby averting signalling into the downstream innate immunity system. C4 replicates these activities using a domain with 54% identity to C16. Our results reveal how vaccinia virus subverts the capacity of Ku to recognize viral DNA
Multielemental analysis of Antarctic soils using calibration free laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy
Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a quick technique that allows the analysis of all types of samples without destroying them and with much reduced sample treatment. One of its many applications is the study of geological samples such as soils. Because of the complexity of the matrix, it is very difficult to find or manufacture standards for these types of samples. Therefore, a good alternative is to make use of a methodology, called Calibration Free (CF), where instead of using standards, the physical parameters of the plasma created by the interaction of the laser with the sample are studied and related to the elements and species that compose it. This methodology is followed to perform a multielemental quantitative analysis of soil samples from Antarctica. Two studies were made, differing in the optimization of the instrumental parameters in order to obtain the best possible spectra in the chosen spectral lines. In both cases, the signal to noise ratio (SNR) was used to evaluate the quality of the spectra, but in the second study a full factorial design 23 with center and axial points was developed to get better results. The choice of spectral lines was based on a series of criteria, being stricter in the second study. The samples were mainly composed of the following oxides: SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, Na2O, TiO and K2O. In the second study, it was also possible to determine the species present in lower concentrations: Mn, Cr, V, Sr, Zr, BA and Li. The results were compared with those provided by ICP-OES analysis, obtaining close values for most oxides, especially in the second study. For minority elements, the CF-LIBS and the ICP-OES results were within the same order of magnitude in all cases except the Cr case. These results show that CF-LIBS can be very useful in the characterization of complex samples from remote regions, such as Antarctic soils
Progress in Monte Carlo design and optimization of the Cherenkov Telescope Array
The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) will be an instrument covering a wide
energy range in very-high-energy (VHE) gamma rays. CTA will include several
types of telescopes, in order to optimize the performance over the whole energy
range. Both large-scale Monte Carlo (MC) simulations of CTA super-sets
(including many different possible CTA layouts as sub-sets) and smaller-scale
simulations dedicated to individual aspects were carried out and are on-going.
We summarize results of the prior round of large-scale simulations, show where
the design has now evolved beyond the conservative assumptions of the prior

Ectodomain shedding of the hypoxia-induced carbonic anhydrase IX is a metalloprotease-dependent process regulated by TACE/ADAM17
Carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) is a transmembrane protein whose expression is strongly induced by hypoxia in a broad spectrum of human tumours. It is a highly active enzyme functionally involved in both pH control and cell adhesion. Its presence in tumours usually indicates poor prognosis. Ectodomain of CA IX is detectable in the culture medium and body fluids of cancer patients, but the mechanism of its shedding has not been thoroughly investigated. Here, we analysed several cell lines with natural and ectopic expression of CA IX to show that its ectodomain release is sensitive to metalloprotease inhibitor batimastat (BB-94) and that hypoxia maintains the normal rate of basal shedding, thus leading to concomitant increase in cell-associated and extracellular CA IX levels. Using CHO-M2 cells defective in shedding, we demonstrated that the basal CA IX ectodomain release does not require a functional TNFα-converting enzyme (TACE/ADAM17), whereas the activation of CA IX shedding by both phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate and pervanadate is TACE-dependent. Our results suggest that the cleavage of CA IX ectodomain is a regulated process that responds to physiological factors and signal transduction stimuli and may therefore contribute to adaptive changes in the protein composition of tumour cells and their microenvironment
Galaxy Collisions - Dawn of a New Era
The study of colliding galaxies has progressed rapidly in the last few years,
driven by observations with powerful new ground and space-based instruments.
These instruments have used for detailed studies of specific nearby systems,
statistical studies of large samples of relatively nearby systems, and
increasingly large samples of high redshift systems. Following a brief summary
of the historical context, this review attempts to integrate these studies to
address the following key issues. What role do collisions play in galaxy
evolution, and how can recently discovered processes like downsizing resolve
some apparently contradictory results of high redshift studies? What is the
role of environment in galaxy collisions? How is star formation and nuclear
activity orchestrated by the large scale dynamics, before and during merger?
Are novel modes of star formation involved? What are we to make of the
association of ultraluminous X-ray sources with colliding galaxies? To what do
degree do mergers and feedback trigger long-term secular effects? How far can
we push the archaeology of individual systems to determine the nature of
precursor systems and the precise effect of the interaction? Tentative answers
to many of these questions have been suggested, and the prospects for answering

Copanlisib synergizes with conventional and targeted agents including venetoclax in B- And T-cell lymphoma models
Copanlisib is a pan-class I phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor with preferred activity toward PI3Ka and PI3Kd. Despite the clear overall clinical benefit, the number of patients achieving complete remissions with the single agent is relatively low, a problem shared by the vast majority of targeted agents. Here, we searched for novel copanlisib-based combinations. Copanlisib was tested as a single agent, in combination with an additional 17 drugs in 26 cell lines derived from mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), marginal zone lymphoma (MZL), and T-cell lymphomas. In vivo experiments, transcriptome analyses, and immunoblotting experiments were also performed. Copanlisib as a single agent showed in vitro dose-dependent antitumor activity in the vast majority of the models. Combination screening identified several compounds that synergized with copanlisib. The strongest combination was with the B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2) inhibitor venetoclax. The benefit of the combination over single agents was also validated in an MZL xenograft model and in MCL primary cells, and was due to increased induction of apoptosis, an effect likely sustained by the reduction of the antiapoptotic proteins myeloid cell leukemia 1 (MCL1) and BCL-XL, observed in MCL and MZL cell lines, respectively. These data supported the rationale for the design of the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK) 66/18phase 1 study currently exploring the combination of copanlisib and venetoclax in relapsed/refractory lymphomas
Detailed spectral and morphological analysis of the shell type SNR RCW 86
Aims: We aim for an understanding of the morphological and spectral
properties of the supernova remnant RCW~86 and for insights into the production
mechanism leading to the RCW~86 very high-energy gamma-ray emission. Methods:
We analyzed High Energy Spectroscopic System data that had increased
sensitivity compared to the observations presented in the RCW~86 H.E.S.S.
discovery publication. Studies of the morphological correlation between the
0.5-1~keV X-ray band, the 2-5~keV X-ray band, radio, and gamma-ray emissions
have been performed as well as broadband modeling of the spectral energy
distribution with two different emission models. Results:We present the first
conclusive evidence that the TeV gamma-ray emission region is shell-like based
on our morphological studies. The comparison with 2-5~keV X-ray data reveals a
correlation with the 0.4-50~TeV gamma-ray emission.The spectrum of RCW~86 is
best described by a power law with an exponential cutoff at TeV and a spectral index of ~. A static
leptonic one-zone model adequately describes the measured spectral energy
distribution of RCW~86, with the resultant total kinetic energy of the
electrons above 1 GeV being equivalent to 0.1\% of the initial kinetic
energy of a Type I a supernova explosion. When using a hadronic model, a
magnetic field of ~100G is needed to represent the measured data.
Although this is comparable to formerly published estimates, a standard
E spectrum for the proton distribution cannot describe the gamma-ray
data. Instead, a spectral index of ~1.7 would be required, which
implies that ~erg has been transferred into
high-energy protons with the effective density cm^-3. This
is about 10\% of the kinetic energy of a typical Type Ia supernova under the
assumption of a density of 1~cm^-3.Comment: accepted for publication by A&
