The Mundelein Encounter: A Catholic-Evangelical Model of Ecumenism
In the fall of 2013, a new initiative was undertaken in Chicago for Christian unity at âgrass-rootsâ level. This initiative, which eventually became known as the Catholic-Evangelical Conversation (CEC), had its origin in the relationships of several individuals associated in different ways with the evangelical Lausanne Movement. The Lausanne vision, expressed in The Cape Town Commitment (https://www.lausanne.org/content/ctc/ctcommitment), animated the early discussions of John Armstrong, Norberto Saracco, and Douglas Birdsall, who shared their vision with Thomas A. Baima and Robert Barron. Individuals associated with the Lausanne Movement formed the early core of the evangelicals who became involved with the CEC. A second formative element of this conversation came from the vision of Pope Francis, who shares a growing need for unity for the sake of Christâs mission. Individuals associated with the Archdiocese of Buenos Aries and Cardinal Bergoglio were early collaborators with the CEC. Both of these visions shape the direction of the CEC into the future

The Centre is housed in refurbished premises within a nursery/school complex in the heart of Northampton and offers diverse health, childcare, early education and support services delivered by a multi-professional team. These services and activities are available to children aged 0-5 years old, and their parents/carers, residing within a catchment area comprising eight âSuper Output Areasâ in the Castle and St. James ward of Northampton.

Stakeholder perspectives on the development of a virtual clinic for diabetes care : qualitative study
Background: The development of the Internet has created new opportunities for health care provision, including its use as a
tool to aid the self-management of chronic conditions. We studied stakeholder reactions to an Internet-based âvirtual clinic,â
which would allow people with diabetes to communicate with their health care providers, find information about their condition,
and share information and support with other users.
Objective: The aim of the study was to present the results of a detailed consultation with a variety of stakeholder groups in
order to identify what they regard as the desirable, important, and feasible characteristics of an Internet-based intervention to aid
diabetes self-management.
Methods: Three focus groups were conducted with 12 people with type 1 diabetes who used insulin pumps. Participants were
recruited through a local diabetes clinic. One-on-one interviews were conducted with 5 health care professionals from the same
clinic (2 doctors, 2 nurses, 1 dietitian) and with 1 representative of an insulin pump company. We gathered patient consensus via
email on the important and useful features of Internet-based systems used for other chronic conditions (asthma, epilepsy, myalgic
encephalopathy, mental health problems). A workshop to gather expert consensus on the use of information technology to improve
the care of young people with diabetes was organized.
Results: Stakeholder groups identified the following important characteristics of an Internet-based virtual clinic: being grounded
on personal needs rather than only providing general information; having the facility to communicate with, and learn from, peers;
providing information on the latest developments and news in diabetes; being quick and easy to use. This paper discusses these
characteristics in light of a review of the relevant literature. The development of a virtual clinic for diabetes that embodies these
principles, and that is based on self-efficacy theory, is described.
Conclusions: Involvement of stakeholders is vital early in the development of a complex intervention. Stakeholders have clear
and relevant views on what a virtual clinic system should provide, and these views can be captured and synthesized with relative
ease. This work has led to the design of a system that is able to meet user needs and is currently being evaluated in a pilot study
Prediction of LDEF ionizing radiation environment
The Long Duration Exposure Facility (LDEF) spacecraft flew in a 28.5 deg inclination circular orbit with an altitude in the range from 172 to 258.5 nautical miles. For this orbital altitude and inclination two components contribute most of the penetrating charge particle radiation encountered - the galactic cosmic rays and the geomagnetically trapped Van Allen protons. Where shielding is less than 1.0 g/sq cm geomagnetically trapped electrons make a significant contribution. The 'Vette' models together with the associated magnetic filed models were used to obtain the trapped electron and proton fluences. The mission proton doses were obtained from the fluence using the Burrell proton dose program. For the electron and bremsstrahlung dose we used the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) electron dose program. The predicted doses were in general agreement with those measured with on-board thermoluminescent detector (TLD) dosimeters. The NRL package of programs, Cosmic Ray Effects on MicroElectronics (CREME), was used to calculate the linear energy transfer (LET) spectrum due to galactic cosmic rays (GCR) and trapped protons for comparison with LDEF measurements
An Evaluation of Max-Flex Fast Fenceâą for Reducing Deer Damage to Crops
A 2-year study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of Max-Flex Fast Fenceâą electric fencing materials (polytape) for reducing damage to crops. Specifically, our goal was to look at the efficacy of this product for the home gardener. In the first phase of the project, plots of approximately 1/40 acre were established in areas of historically high deer densities. Each plot was planted with soybeans and randomly assigned to 1 of 4 fencing configurations or to the open control group. Within each plot, 6\u27 wide strips were tilled across the length. These tilled areas were checked for the presence of deer tracks. The study design was replicated 3 times to produce 12 treatment plots (3 of each fence configuration) and 3 open controls. Fences were charged via a New Zealand-type high voltage, low-impedance charger. The open controls were fed on heavily by deer and soon were almost void of foliage. Results suggest that under these conditions even a single strand of polytape 2 1/2\u27 high was successful in preventing deer from entering the plots. Phase 2 of the study used a single strand of polytape 2 1/2\u27 feet from the ground to exclude deer from plots ranging in size from 0.025 acres to 1 acre. Each exclosure was planted with soybeans. Three replication areas were selected and plots randomly established within the replicates. The effectiveness of the single strand was much less conclusive than in Phase I, with deer entering all plots at some time during the study. However, there does appear to be a direct relationship between plot size and number of deer tracks observed in the plot. In addition, there were significant differences in fence effectiveness between replicates. We concluded that a single strand of polytape electric fencing, if properly installed, could be a suitable deterrent to deer in a small garden situation
Ozone Depletion from Nearby Supernovae
Estimates made in the 1970's indicated that a supernova occurring within tens
of parsecs of Earth could have significant effects on the ozone layer. Since
that time, improved tools for detailed modeling of atmospheric chemistry have
been developed to calculate ozone depletion, and advances have been made in
theoretical modeling of supernovae and of the resultant gamma-ray spectra. In
addition, one now has better knowledge of the occurrence rate of supernovae in
the galaxy, and of the spatial distribution of progenitors to core-collapse
supernovae. We report here the results of two-dimensional atmospheric model
calculations that take as input the spectral energy distribution of a
supernova, adopting various distances from Earth and various latitude impact
angles. In separate simulations we calculate the ozone depletion due to both
gamma-rays and cosmic rays. We find that for the combined ozone depletion
roughly to double the ``biologically active'' UV flux received at the surface
of the Earth, the supernova must occur at <8 pc. Based on the latest data, the
time-averaged galactic rate of core-collapse supernovae occurring within 8 pc
is ~1.5/Gyr. In comparing our calculated ozone depletions with those of
previous studies, we find them to be significantly less severe than found by
Ruderman (1974), and consistent with Whitten et al. (1976). In summary, given
the amplitude of the effect, the rate of nearby supernovae, and the ~Gyr time
scale for multicellular organisms on Earth, this particular pathway for mass

Theoretical Limb Darkening for Classical Cepheids: II. Corrections for the Geometric Baade-Wesselink Method
The geometric Baade-Wesselink method is one of the most promising techniques
for obtaining a better calibration of the Cepheid period-luminosity relation by
means of interferometric measurements of accurate diameters. In this paper we
present new wavelength- and phase-dependent limb darkening corrections based on
our time-dependent hydrodynamic models of the classical Cepheid zeta Gem. We
show that a model simulation of a Cepheid atmosphere, taking into account the
hydrodynamic effects associated with the pulsation, shows strong departures
from the limb darkening otherwise predicted by a static model. For most of its
pulsational cycle the hydrodynamic model predicts a larger limb darkening then
the equivalent static model. The hydrodynamics affects the limb darkening
mainly at UV and optical wavelengths. Most of these effects evolve slowly as
the star pulsates, but there are phases, associated with shocks propagating
into the photosphere, in which significant changes in the limb darkening take
place on time-scales of the order of less than a day. We assess the implication
of our model LD corrections fitting the geometric Baade-Wesselink distance of
zeta Gem for the available near-IR PTI data. We discuss the effects of our
model limb darkening on the best fit result, and analyze the requirements
needed to test the time-dependence of the limb darkening with future
